Game play
It has been revealed by Gamer Informer that Assassin's Creed II will enable the player to swim, allowing Ezio to use the canals of Venice as hiding spots for as long as the character can hold his breath, and to drag guards into the water as a means of assassination. Leonardo Da Vinci will be featured in the game, providing a host of new weapons and contraptions for Ezio to use. At one point in the game, the player can access da Vinci's Flying Machines, keeping airborne using thermals from fires lit by friends gathered previously in the game. It has also been announced that there will be many more mission types (approximately sixteen) for the player to engage in.
According to ScrewAttack, there will be many new weapons to choose from including an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, two different sword types, a halberd, and two smaller blades.
Plot
The player character: Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence, Italy
While not much is known of the plot yet, it has been confirmed that the player will assume the role of a nobleman and assassin named Ezio Auditore de Firenze. Like Altaïr from the first game, Ezio is an ancestor of Desmond Miles, the modern assassin that has been captured by Abstergo Industries. Ezio is a young noble who lost his family to rival families.
He is shown to have dual assassin's blades. The game is set to take place in Renaissance Italy, during the Carnival of Venice in the year 1476, which is 285 years after the first game. Like the characters in Assassin's Creed, historical figures will be present in the game including Leonardo da Vinci , Machiavelli , Caterina Sforza and Lorenzo de ' Medici
Locations mentioned thus far as being included in the game are Venice , Florence , Tuscan countryside and Rome Specific landmarks include St Mark's Basilica the Garnd Canal , the Little Canal, and the Railto Bridge
Development
On January 22 2009, it was confirmed by UBISOFT that Assassin's Creed II was in production, but no details were revealed.
A promotional video was released by Ubisoft on April 16 showing a skull, some hidden blade designs, and da Vinci's flying machine on a scroll
On the official site, after the teaser is viewed, a symbol is given to print and show in front of a webcam. Doing this will unlock a picture relating to the new game. All five symbols have now been given by Ubisoft and Gamer Informer
On April 16 2009, Gamer Informer Magazine released details of the game, including pictures of Ezio,a new teaser trailer was released, and the game was "officially" announced by Ubisoft.
