We would like to see if there are any atheists on elakiri. If you are atheist, want your opinion about:
1)Life in sri lanka as an atheist and it's complications (any personal experiences)
2)Future of rationalism and atheism in sri lanka (upward trends etc)
    3) what should be done about religious extremism in sri lanka?

    hi

I'm an Atheist. I don't believe in religion or God. But I respect all the religions. If you say that you an Atheist, then you are cornered. Other people definitely think that you are out of your mind.

Religions are for the uncivilized mind as I feel. As a human when you grow, you should understand how to live in the society. If you do not develop that understanding that means you have not grown up. What people think religion is, the rituals and the traditions they have been continuing so far. They don't understand the fact, that the core teaching of every religion is the same. That is to live in harmony. Our people simply do no understand this. They are not critical. They do not think. If people think our society would be better. They do not understand that we come from the same place and go back to the same place, irrespective of our religion.

Revealing my identity of being as Atheist would be a horrific experience to a very religious person. Think of this country. Every morning and evening you hear pirith and prayers all around the country. Feasts of the church are celebrated in glamour. But no person give an iota of attention to their hearts.

What our people do is, to attend a religious place very seriously and take part in all the rituals and come back out of that shrine and go back to the same old style. No body thinks about their life style, their behavior, their language.

People would not give a damn concern for you if you say that you are an Atheist. Because most of the Sri lankans are morons..

if you don't believe in shit, you are a nihilist  atheists are inherently dumb

and teaching of living in harmony isn't the main purpose of a religion, that's only a minor side, all the major religions are designed to answer some basic questions about life that science or any other rationale could not answer.
things like humans purpose on earth etc, if you have faith these things are answered, or atheist physicists can keep trying to collide particles in big tubes hoping to find answers.
Faith gives hope to live, people need things to believe in that's what religions do. I"m sure you believe in things in your life as well. faith takes many forms, doesn't matter atheist or not.

From what sources you can get knowledge? For what you are refering to?

Without any how do you understand?

This is the begining of buddha. People will loose those check points eventually, If someone has great mind then he can understand everything by his own. But a common person cannot.

1 - As long as you can keep your beliefs to you're self its not complicated
2 - There is no future for sure
3 - nothing should or can be done, FYI there was a protest against BBS few days back and there were not even 20 people, BBS is huge in SL its a fact cus its sponsored by GOV, even it's against Buddhism teaching people like it cus there are Anti Muslims in SL, Islam need to wipe off from this country
