Sri Lanka is to construct atomic reactors to generate power, exploiting vast deposits of ‘Thorium’ found along the coastline from Beruwala to Negombo as a solution to the power crisis facing the country, Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitarana said today.

We should go to that systems as soon as we can,in order to find a remedy for our power crisis...

    where all the phantoms live..
well nuclear power is indeed a very gud source of electricity generation...to cope up wit da fast growing demand it is vise to go for nuclear power....but i wonder how SL govt gonna raise da vast amount of capital expenditure needed for da construction....i must say dat dis z not a simple task....n very time consuming...average time to build a nuclear reactor is about 10 years..hehehe....n SL wil hav to tak permission from certain bodies lyk UN , inorder to buuild nuclear reactors over here...
and watever said n done nuclear power is one of da power sources which has zero carbon emission and very much environmentally friendly....
ppl say dat it is not gud n all, but if u build a reactor properly according to da standards there wont be any problem to da citizens....

i must say dis z one of da dumbest plans if the SL govt gonna do it, coz the capital cost z extremely high n since SL economy is in a shake...

i think itz a wise decision coz after d initial expenses f building diz powerstation d production f energy will b very cheap.. it will create a lot f profits n d country wil hav more political freedom; independent of oil n coal. so d oil prices can b cut down also.

but depositing these radioactive materials can b a problm... d radioactive materials remain active for thousands f years...

but lookin at d positiv site countries lyk Japan r fully expoiting nuclear energy n to the growth f the economy...

    i don't know abt u guys......but far as i know........
worlds MOST inefficiency power generation system is nuclear power.............

and not forgetting how the hell SL government gonna handle radioactive nuclear waste when they even can't handle the city garbage and wast problems.......:frown: :frown:

sri lanka is not ready for this.........
at least not for another 10 to 15 years........

    well it's japan...........
hell don't have to that far.......
india is utilizing nuclear power for power generation.........

and what about this nuclear power problem with iran............
