I dont know why Dtv is still very costly .... Over 1,000 Rs which is not affordable to average person in SL

but I am sure Price Elasticity for Dtv is quit high therefore I can show how to increase Dtvs income as below table

Price Demand - Revenue
1000 120,000 = 120,000,000
500 300,000 = 150,000,000

since Tatasky & Dish TV packages are around 1,000 - 1,250 demand might be more than this

this is simple mathematics based on Economic theory but I do not know how much they have to pay Royalties for Channel's Broadcasters but if you can reduce the price we will truely appreciate that

Dialog TV is suffering a huge loss. So in-order them to recover they have to obtain 300000+ customers. So I dont think those jokers will ever reduce there rental charges. Recently they increased the rentals also.

do you seriously expect dialog to cut tariff? come on dude.. where have you been the whole time? they will not reduce unless there's another operator providing the same service at a lower tariff.. dialog has proven this many times in the past.. remember they only reduced their phone charges after mobitel started offering low tariff plans:yes:

There's no competition. Only Dialog TV, LBN & SLT Peo TV are the major cable tv providers. Others such as Dish TV, Comet are small players with limited capacity.

Sri Lanka Dialog Telekom returns to profitability

May 10, 2010 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's Dialog Telekom group made a profit of 705 million rupees in the March 2010 quarter from its core celco operations, after a loss of 1.86 billion a year ago, but subsidiaries continued to lose money, its accounts showed.

In the March quarter the group's core cellular business made a profit of 820.3 million rupees compared with a 929 million loss in the corresponding quarter last year.
Dialog Telekom group had earnings of eight cents per share in the March 2010 quarter compared with a loss of 29 cents per share a year ago.

The group has been making losses in recent quarters owing to higher costs and steep tariff cuts brought on by stiff competition.

The group's global business profits were up almost 11 percent to 64.8 million rupees.

Dialog Telekom, Sri Lanka's largest celco, is a unit of Malaysia's Axiata group.

Dialog's March quarter group revenues rose 10.1 percent to 9.8 billion rupees, while at standalone company level revenues rose 15.3 percent to 8.47 billion rupees, its accounts showed.

Net Insight receives order for Digital Terrestrial TV network from leading broadcaster and satellite operator in Sri Lanka

    19 January, 2010

Stockholm, Sweden - Net Insight, leading developer of efficient and scalable optical transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, has received an order from Dialog Telekom for a Digital Terrestrial TV network in Sri Lanka.

Dialog Telekom, a leading broadcaster and satellite operator in Sri Lanka, will implement a first phase of Net Insight’s Nimbra platform in a distribution network from headend to four transmitter sites. The agreement includes two additional phases of expansion to a national DVB-T network.

Net Insight received a first order in 2008 for a pilot project which has been successful and the strengths of the Nimbra platform, such as high reliability and full redundancy with headend protection as well as scalable and robust ASI multicast, have been crucial factors for the new order. The solution also includes Net Insight’s unique IP trunk solution for migration to an all-IP media network.

The Nimbra platform is a versatile transport solution with several unique features for DTT and Mobile TV networks. In addition, Nimbra offers a flexible and cost-effective solution for delivering advanced multimedia services in Broadcast and Media networks and for IPTV/CATV distribution. TV operators deploying Digital Terrestrial TV based on the Nimbra platform not only get a DTT network but a multiservice transport infrastructure that opens up new business opportunities, turning the network into a very powerful media contribution platform.

“We are very pleased that Dialog has chosen Net Insight and our Nimbra platform for their network and look forward to continue our business partnership,” says Fredrik Trägårdh, CEO of Net Insight.
