Attention: Ceylon Tea Exporters to Saudi Arabia
Reference to the fax message received on 27th January 2021 from Sri Lanka Embassy in Saudi Arabia to Foreign Ministry on above subject, Director General instructed to circulate the below message to all Ceylon Tea exporters to Saudi Arabia.
According to the information received from Riyadh, SL Embassy had an online discussion with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority on 27th January 2021.
3. At the meeting, we were informed that they received the final review of the "National program for monitoring pesticide residuals" which comprises technical evaluation of 3500 products, collected in 2019 and 2020.
4. The Official singled out
a. Ceylon "Green" Tea
b. Ceylon Cloves
have found to be containing pesticide residuals beyond Saudi and International limits. Moreover, they informed that the Ceylon Cloves have 40 times higher.
They informed that at present (by January 2021) these two food items are "restricted" from entering the Kingdom.
Sri Lanka Tea Board and Foreign Ministry attended immediately and had a virtual meeting with SL Embassy in Riyadh. Sri Lanka Embassy already requested all lab reports and sample details from SFDA.
