The female students rated a bearded male face as more masculine, independent, sophisticated and mature compared to a clean-shaven male face. They concluded from their studies that a beard increases “sexual magnetism” and attractiveness and makes men more appealing to women. The presence of a beard makes a man appear more masculine to a woman, and she feels more feminine towards him.

Wrong conclusion. Females have said rawul face is masculine, independent, sophisticated and mature-NOTHING ABOUT SEXUAL MAGNETISM/ ATTRACTIVENESS/APPEAL. If it makes her feel more feminine, then some women may actually hate such men on that very ground-the trend is for women to be on equal grounds with men, rather than been restricted to stereotypes.

Psychologist Robert J. Pellegrini reported in Psychology, 1973, Volume 10, No. 1, the results of an experiment on the perception of male personality as a function of varying states of beardedness.

I just thought the first experiment/interview was also done in the same era. Hello! This is 2009. Gone are the days people were mad over Che Guevara and socialism.
"Sophisticated" in 1972 may have been that; sophistication/civilized/cultured today is absence of the beard.

Primary sex characteristics are the genitals, but the beard is a secondary sex characteristic in males. The purpose of secondary sex characteristics is to distinguish males from females. In addition, secondary sex characteristics serve the purpose of attracting the opposite sex.

So, having a beard will help those who don't have the primary sexual characteristic. Men who have genitals can easily manage without the beard. Like I said before, nowadays, the beard is a repellent that keeps away educated, civilized women.

allowing the beard to grow prevents a person from contracting diseases of the throat and of the gums.

Yes, and growing hair on certain other parts of the body will guard people against sexually transmitted diseases.
