    Why BitDefender?

Proven. Most reactive antivirus producer. BitDefender fast reactivity in case of computer virus epidemic was confirmed beginning with the last outbreaks of CodeRed, Nimda and Sircam, as well as Badtrans.B or other dangerous, fast-spreading malicious codes. BitDefender was the first to provide antidotes against these codes and to make them freely available on the Internet for all affected people. Now, with the continuous expansion of the Klez virus - in various versions immediate antivirus protection has become once more a critical need for any computer system.

Innovative. Awarded for innovation by the European Commission and EuroCase. BitDefender has been proclaimed a winner of the European IST-Prize, awarded by the European Commission and by representatives of 18 academies in Europe. Now in its eighth year, the European IST Prize is a reward for groundbreaking products that represent the best of European innovation in information technology.

Comprehensive. Covers every single point of your network, providing complete security. BitDefender security solutions for the corporate environment satisfy the protection requirements of today's business environment, enabling management of all complex threats that endanger a network, from a small local area to large multi-server, multi-platform WAN's.

Your Ultimate Protection. The final frontier for any possible threat to your computer system. As virus detection based on code analysis has not always offered good results, BitDefender has implemented behavior based protection, providing security against newborn malware.

These are the costs that organizations want to avoid and what the security products are designed to prevent:

    Worm attacks

Communication loss because of infected e-mails

    E-mail breakdown

    Cleaning and recovering systems

Lost productivity experienced by end users because systems are not available

Hacking and unauthorized access that causes damage

Some simultaneously developments and benefits can be accomplished by using the BitDefender security suite:

Increase network availability by stopping the spread of malicious code attacks (i.e., Nimda, Trojan horses, DDoS).

    Protect remote users from attacks.

Reduce administrative costs and deploys rapidly with BitDefender Enterprise management capabilities.

Stop the spreading of malware through e-mail, using a BitDefender e-mail protection at the company's gateway.Temporarily or permanently block unauthorized, vulnerable, and expensive application connections.

    Nod32 ????

    NOD32 Antivirus System 2.70.16 for Windows NT/2000/2003/XP/VISTA/ x64 - Final
ESET NOD32 Antivirus System - Integrated, Real-Time Protection against viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, phishing, and hackers. Best detection, fastest performance & smallest footprint.
NOD32 Antivirus System provides well balanced, state-of-the-art protection against threats endangering your PC and enterprise systems running various platforms from Microsoft Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT / 2000 / 2003 / XP, through a number of UNIX/Linux, Novell, MS DOS operating systems to Microsoft Exchange Server, Lotus Domino and other mail servers.

Users of Microsoft® Windows® can experience the power and elegance of NOD32's ThreatSense Technology with ease and comfort. Our single optimized engine offers the best protection from viruses, spyware, adware, phishing attacks, and more. Keep tomorrow's threats at bay with our proactive detection technology. And it has the smallest footprint and fastest performance - bar none.
The fourth generation of the NOD32 Antivirus System features a fully integrated software suite characterized by an unprecedented detection track record, the fastest scanning rates and extremely low utilization of system resources. NOD32's detection efficiency combined with 2-50 times faster hard disk scanning rate earned the product many international prestigious awards.

    ESET's NOD32 Key Features:
    · ThreatSense™ technology — a single optimized anti-threat engine for analyzing code to identify malicious behavior, such as viruses, spyware, adware, phishing and more
    · Unprecedented heuristic analysis capable of discovering new malware threats as they emerge
    · Powerful virtual PC emulation technology enables unpacking and decryption of all types of archives and run-time packing
    · Able to clean active malware running in memory
    · Protects at multiple infiltration points, including HTTP, POP3, SMTP and all local and removable media
    · Removes infections from files that are locked for writing (e.g., loaded DLL file)
    · Prevents infected files from being opened and executed, and warns on creation of infected files
    · Automatic execution on system startup
    · Supports multiple Terminal Server environments
    · Supports scanning of mapped network disks

    Comprehensive Protection
NOD32 is a single, highly optimized engine that works as a unified Anti-Threat system to protect against a broad spectrum of malware. Viruses, worms, spyware, and other malicious attacks, which are constantly evolving. Eset NOD32 utilizes patent-pending ThreatSense® Technology to detect tomorrow's threats in real-time, by analyzing code execution for malicious intent - keeping you ahead of the malware-writers.

    Proactive Real-Time Detection
The best security is proactive. Malware protection must be real-time at the point of impact. Every minute one waits for a virus signature update creates a window of vulnerability that could have devastating consequences. Eset NOD32's ThreatSense® Technology closes the window of vulnerability left open by other reactive, signature-based antivirus vendors.
NOD32 analyzes application execution in real-time for malicious intent to detect and block over 90% of new malware threats proactively, without the need for signature updates in most cases. Most other vendors release signatures hours after their customers have been victimized and submitted samples.

    Integrated Protection
Viruses, worms, adware, and spyware can and should be detected by a single engine. A well-designed, integrated application like Eset NOD32 can detect adware, spyware, viruses, rootkits, and other malicous attacks. Running separate applications for viruses, hackers, adware, and spyware can slow your PC, be difficult to manage, and provide questionable protection. Beware of large, bloated internet security suites that consume hundreds of megabytes on your PC. These typically exist because vendors have acquired products and 'bundled' them together. In contrast, Eset NOD32 was designed from the core as a single, highly-optimized engine to stop malware.

Protection against threats from multiple input vectors is provided by the following modules:
    * Antivirus MONitor (AMON). An on-access (memory-resident) scanner, which automatically scans files before they're accessed.
    * NOD32. An on-demand scanner, which can be run manually on specific files or disk segments. It can also be scheduled to run during off-peak times.
    * Internet MONitor (IMON). A memory-resident scanner that runs on the Winsock level to prevent infected files from reaching the computer's disks. Its scans internet web browsing traffic (HTTP) and incoming e-mail via the POP3 protocol.
    * E-mail MONitor (EMON). An auxiliary module for scanning incoming/outgoing e-mails via the MAPI interface, such as Microsoft Outlook Microsoft Exchange.
    * Document MONitor (DMON). Utilizes the proprietary Microsoft API for scanning Microsoft Office documents (including Internet Explorer).

    Fast Performance
Great detection doesn't have to slow down your computer. Written largely in assembly language, NOD32 continually wins awards for the fastest performance of any antivirus application, on average 2 to 5 times faster than the competition (source: Virus Bulletin). Switch to NOD32 and upgrade your computer's performance.

    Smallest Footprint
NOD32 conserves resources on disk and in memory, leaving more for your critical applications. The installer is just 8.6 MB and the application takes up less than 20 MB in memory (this fluctuates with changes to the detection technology). ThreatSense updates, which includes heuristics logic and signatures, are usually between 20 kB and 50 kB. Switch to NOD32 and reclaim precious resources.

    Easy to Manage
Program and database updates are automaticaly performed behind the scenes. If you're an individual or home office user you can just 'set it and forget it.' Businesses and organizations with large distributed networks can use the powerful Remote Administrator to centrally deploy, install, monitor and manage thousands of NOD32 workstations and servers.

    Changes in NOD32 Antivirus 2.7 :
    - Fixed issue with NOD32 On-Demand Scanner closing under Windows Vista
    - Fixed issue with IMON that prevented Scheduler services from starting under Windows Vista
    - In the Access Monitor (AMON) module, there is now one option for moving infected files to quarantine

Support for Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
Enhanced rootkit detection and removal (Anti-Stealth)
Improved classification of spyware and adware
    Improved removal of malware
and other small changes through the program.

    Sources of Threats
A person, a group of people, or even some phenomena unrelated to human activity can serve as an information security threat. Following from this, all threat sources break down into three groups:
The human factor. This group of threats concerns the actions of people with authorized or unauthorized access to information. Threats in this group can be divided into:
External, including cyber criminals, hackers, internet scams, unprincipled partners, and criminal structures.
Internal, including actions of company staff and users of home PCs. Actions taken by this group could be deliberate or accidental.
The technological factor. This threat group is connected with technical problems - equipment used becoming obsolete and poor-quality software and hardware for processing information. This all leads to equipment failure and often to data loss.
The natural-disaster factor. This threat group includes any number of events brought on by nature and other events independent of human activity.
All three threat sources must be accounted for when developing a data security protection system. This User Guide only covers the one that is directly tied to Kaspersky Lab's expertise - external threats involving human activity.

    Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2006

The following protection components provide defense for your computer in real time:
    File Anti-Virus
A file system can contain viruses and other dangerous programs. Malicious programs can be stored in your file system for years after one day making it through on a removable drive or from the Internet without showing themselves at all. But you only need open the infected file, or, for example, try to copy it to a disk, and the virus is instantly activated.
File Anti-Virus - the component that monitors the computer's file system. It scans all files that can be opened, executed or saved on your computer and all attached disk drives. Each file that is accessed will be intercepted by Kaspersky Internet Security and scanned for known viruses. The file can only be used further if the file is not infected or is successfully treated by the Anti-Virus. If a file cannot be disinfected for any reason, it will be deleted, with a copy of the file saved in backup, or moved to quarantine.
    Mail Anti-Virus
E-mail is widely used by malefactors to spread malicious programs. It is one of the chief means for spreading worms. This makes it extremely important to monitor all mail messages.
Mail Anti-Virus - the component that scans all incoming and outgoing e-mails on your computer. It analyzes e-mails for malicious programs. The e-mail is available to the addressee only if it does not contain dangerous objects.
    Web Anti-Virus
When you access websites on the Internet, you risk infecting your computer with viruses that install themselves using scripts on web pages. You could also download a dangerous file onto your computer.
Web Anti-Virus is specially designed to forestall such situations. This component intercepts and blocks scripts on web sites if they pose a threat. All http traffic is subject to careful inspection.
    Proactive Defense
With every new day, there are more and more malicious programs. They are becoming more complex, combining several types, and the methods for spreading themselves are become harder and harder to detect.
To detect a new malicious program before it has time to do any damage, Kaspersky Lab has developed a special component - Proactive Defense. It is designed around monitoring and analyzing the behavior of all applications installed on your computer. Judging by the actions executed by an application, Kaspersky Internet Security makes a decision. Is the application dangerous? So your computer is protected not only from known viruses, but from new ones as well that still have not been discovered.
    Anti-Spy
Spyware has become even more common recently, growing into a large family of programs with various purposes: programs that display advertising without the user requesting it (banner ads and pop-up windows), programs that call numbers for paid Internet services without user authorization, remote administration and monitoring tools, joke programs, etc.
Anti-Spy traces these actions on your computer and blocks them. For example, the component blocks banner ads and pop-up windows, which can irritate the user while on the Internet, blocks programs that attempt autodialing, and analyzes web pages for phishing content.
    Anti-Hacker
To invade your computer, hackers use any potential hole, whether it be an open network port, transmitting data from computer to computer, etc.
Anti-Hacker is a component designed for protecting your computer while you are using the Internet and other networks. It monitors inbound and outbound connections and scans ports and data packets.
    Anti-Spam
Although not a direct threat to your computer, spam increases the load on mail servers, fills up your mailbox, and takes up your time, and thereby does financial harm.
The Anti-Spam component plugs into the mail client installed on your computer and scans all incoming mail for spam subject matter. All e-mails that contain spam are marked with a special header. Anti-Spam can also be configured to process spam as you like (auto delete, move to a special folder, etc.).

    AV

Whoa people. I thought you were deciding on what was the better AV, you're going on to giving classes about Viral infections.

Anyway, the user friendlyness and RAM usage of NOD cannot be matched with any other. And think of the annoyance of Kasper** when something goes wrong. Too much security is a headache.

All you Norton and other stuff users, try NOD and see. Its better.
