there are many operating systems

Linux - knoppix puppy red hat Mandrake ....
OpenSolaris - This is a powerfull server operating system that can handles more than 20 CPUS.
Windows - well the newest is windows7.
Mac OS X Leopard - well you acually needs a Mini-Mac atleast to run in good. But you still can download it and test.
OS/2 - well the newest version is Os/2 wrap.
FreeDos - try this also.

Ya it is called the Darwin project , the kernel known as the Darwin.

However there is a OS X86 project . that's a hackingtosh project.
But the problem is hackingtosh is not properlly running under normal PC's.

if you are really interested to the Mac OS then try the Darwin also.
Later they add some upper layers to the Darwin and name it as Mac OS .
They complete some GUI componments.

That's how it became Apples.

use the OpenDarwin also.

Yes I checked now , the opendarwin links are dead now.
I don't know what's going on their community and the apple.
But however they are not there by now.
