T cells are involved in the cell-mediated immune response, whereas B cells are part of the humoral immune response. B cells are activated when their B cell receptor (BCR) binds to an antigen.
B cells are of two main types. A T-Independent immune response B cells which can respond directly to the antigen, and a T-Dependent immune response type that needs assistance from T cells in order to respond.
Naïve T cells can express one of two different molecules, classified as CD4+ or CD8+ cells. Helper T cells are CD4+, while cytotoxic T cells are CD8+. Helper T cells release cytokines while cytotoxic T cells kill the infected cell.

The above is a short answer for basic biology. The actual signalling is much more complicated and you need to read a textbook on Immunology.
