Kandy police said that people inside the District Secretariat , Kandy were evacuated today following a bomb threat.
According to the police, the information was received via the 119 emergency hotline.
Investigations revealed that an anonymous email had first been received warning of a bomb threat, followed by a second email stating that the explosive device would detonate at around 4.00 p.m. today.
In response to the threat, all staff and members of the public inside the premises were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure. The police bomb disposal unit was deployed to the scene and is currently conducting a thorough inspection of the building.
Kandy police have launched an investigation into the incident. As of now, no bomb or suspicious device has been found, police said.
