SAO PAULO, Brazil - Lightning hit a British Airways plane during a storm in São Paulo, Brazil on January 24, forcing the flight to delay its takeoff for several hours, according to flight data.

Bernhard Warr recorded video of the strike as he was getting ready to take the flight to Heathrow from São Paulo Guarulhos Airport.

"I was returning from Sao Paulo," he told Storyful while still midflight on January 25. "We had had good weather all week with little rain. Just as we arrived at the airport a huge storm started to move overhead and grounded fights, including ours, for at least an hour. As we were watching out the window it was clear that lightning was striking near the airfield so I went to capture some footage, thinking it would be good to have our aircraft in shot. I got lucky and the strike happened right in front of me!"

Flightradar24 responded, "Engineers will have a look at the entry/exit points and the fuselage for any damage. They’ll also ensure all systems are operational."

Warr explained that minor repairs were carried out, and the plane left several hours late. "The cabin crew have been very professional," he said.
