Namo Buddhaya!
Pinwath mithurani,
Buddhism (I prefer calling the teaching 'Dhamma') teaches certain essential Truths in life
- that there's suffering (we want to be free of them; don't we?)
- that suffering is there because of a reason
- that suffering can be ended (at the simplest: e.g. living in a troublesome environment without getting hurt or frustrated - as an end: ending the samsaraic existence)
- that there's a way to do it (i.e. to do that from now it self...)
One does not get 'saved' by calling oneself a 'Buddhist'.
One would get saved (whether he/she calls himself/herself a Buddhist or not) if one practices Dhamma genuinely...
It's sad to see many Buddhists keep on criticizing/bashing other religions, without trying to follow Dhamma themselves.
Of course, it's their choice (freedom of speech, they say)...
But it's great (and appreciated) if they at least do it politely without disrupting harmony.
I have a request, from Buddhists who want to genuinely protect Dhamma - to genuinely follow Dhamma.
Let's focus on practicing Dhamma - developing virtuous qualities in ourselves.
Let's stop unduly criticizing other faiths - because if we bash/unduly criticize another (perhaps in anger, envy, hatred, of even for fun) our mind gets ruined. And that's bad for us (bad if we ever want to develop our minds). Moreover, it is not good for the readers either.
There's another thing.
Dhamma is True for all the time - because it tells about interaction of causes and their effects; what it brings forth and how it can be changed.
Then how does Dhamma disappear? When people discuss other things (not the teachings of The Supreme Buddha) as Dhamma. It vanishes, once people no longer know/follow it.
So how can we protect Dhamma? by practicing it genuinely; not by criticizing others...
Cannot we resolve to practice Dhamma correctly from today?
