Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (PBOA) today requested the National Transport Commission (NTC) to increase bus fares by 15 percent.

They have also requested for the minimum bus fare to be raised from Rs.6 to Rs.8. The PBOA Chairman, Gemunu Wijeratne said that it was vital to increase bus fares owing to the increase in diesel prices last month.

“Bus owners may incur heavy losses if they do not implement a significant increase in bus fares. We hope the NTC will agree to our request,” Wijeratne said.
