Bus fares increased

The private bus fares have been increased by 7.6% while the minimum fare has been increased to Rs. 7 effective from the 1st of July, Private Transport Minister C.B Rathnayake said.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) yesterday warned it would launch an island wide strike on Monday because of the unwillingness of transport authorities to permit a 15 per cent increase in bus fares, including the minimum fare being increased from Rs.6 to Rs.8.
