    Calculate the download time

Most of guys think that they have a 512 KBps connection  and blaming the ISP that they wont get the full speed :rofl:

Bt it isnt:no: they have 512Kbps internet connection (" b in lower case")
that means Kilo bits per second. Not Kilo Byte per second.

In IDM the transfer rate in KBps. we usually get 55-60 KBps speed in IDM.

Then how we calculate the download time ?

Example 1 : Lets take 729 KB file

first we have to convert this to bits

    8 x 729 x 1024 = 5971968 bits

then we have to convert it to Kilo bits (Kb) To do it we must divide this by 1000 then we have the results.( Just like gram to Kilo gram)

    5971.968 Kb

After that we have to divide it by our connection speed ( i'll take 512 Kbps connection) then it gives us the time (in seconds) we need to download the 729 KB file)

    its approximately 11.5 seconds.

    haha isnt this correct

Lets take another example to confirm this. hmm 100 MB file

    k here we go

    8 x 100 x 1024 x 1024 = 838860800 bits

    1024 Kilo Bytes = 1 Mega Byte
    then
    838860.800 Kilo bits

by dividing the connection speed it gives

    1638.4 seconds.

lets divide this by 60 to get this in minutes ( coz there is 60 seconds for a minute :nerd::lol:)

    approximately 27.30 Minutes

    correct ne huh

    Code:
    8 bits = 1 Byte
    1 Kilo Byte = 1024 Bytes
    1024 Kilo Bytes = 1 Mega Byte

    PS

Download times are theoretical and depend on cable connection, computer processor speed and other overheads.

May b sme guys already know this . i posted this coz i think there are sme guys who dont knw this :P
