Catholic Bishops condemn LTTE artillery attack on Church

Members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference vehemently condemned the attack on St. Anthony's Church at Thalladi, Mannar, by the LTTE on February 12 resulting in the death of several soldiers and injuring many others.
This was stated in a communique`‚ issued yesterday (15) by the President Bishop Vianney Fernando and Secretary General Bishop Norbert Andradi of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka.
"This attack is deplorable as all places of worship are sacred and should be kept free of violence and bloodshed even in combat" it was further stated.
Many pro-LTTE media and "Lordship's" plunged forward with contradicting claims what were identified as collective efforts to cleanse the internationally banned terror outfit.
Following are extracts from the communique`‚ issued by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka.
"We the members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference vehemently condemn the attack on St. Anthony's Church , Thalladi, Mannar, carried out by the LTTE on February 12 resulting in the death of several soldiers and injuring many others. This attack is deplorable as all places of worship are sacred and should be kept free of violence and bloodshed even in combat.
We offer our deepest condolences to all the bereaved families of the deceased soldiers. We urge once again very strongly, that the trend of using the sacred places to indulge in wanton attacks of destruction of life and property in callous disregard of the sacredness of all places of worship should never be repeated".
