Child playing with gun killed as weapon misfires

An eight year old child from Walasmulla was killed today when she had mistakenly shot at herself whilst playing with her father’s locally manufactured firearm. The child had succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to the Walasmulla base hospital.

Police media spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne said that the father of the child had not been in possession of a license for the weapon that he was accustomed to using for hunting purposes.

Police are conducting further investigations. (S.D)

this was shown on Live @ 8 right now.
What they showed was a breech loading rifle so it probably was for hunting.
Also what they said was that it was fired accidentally by the girl's sibling. So its not a self inflicted wound.
