He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance." (Matt. 13:11-12)

    Dear Y2K

I read pretty much all your posts on this thread and in the thread about 'the beginning pf the universe'. I admire you for your thirst to find the truth behind all these..! behind everything. any person who tries to find the answers of life will refine his soul. Refine his soul so he will succeed in attaining freedom and happiness.

In many theistic religions, that ultimate goal will reside in meeting with God or going to heaven. I believe the catholic teaching that you talk about, which talks about reincarnation and karma, too should follow this path. These religions believe in faith. And if I am not mistaken, Jesus said (I dont bother with attaching 'peace be upon him' phrases, I say Buddha, Jesus, Allah, God... since all those are at one point, conceptions of your mind and you will give those conceptions their appropriate respect or disrespect. Words are just trinkets of elaboration) "Have faith in me and I will accept you my children to heaven".. or something similar, (I remember reading those sometime ago, but dont remember. but correct me if i am wrong) And I understand that most theistis (religions derived from judaism, inc catholics and islamics) pray god asking for forgiveness for their sins. And as for the bible, who have faith will be forgiven. And the god will guide you through your heart to spiritual perfection where you will find truth (I like that idea from the books like 'journeys of socrates' and 'the alchemist')

So anybody believe in God must have faith and follow the path showed by him to the heaven. If everybody had unwavering faith in God, the world definitely will be a better place. And as for Buddhists, if you follow the five precepts (which, buddha has said is not a part of buddhism, but something that every human knows by heart,) the world will be a better place.

Your argument is Y2K, that everybody are brothers. Yes, (even with it's naivete, it is a great idea) we are humans. Human brothers. But that definitely does not mean the core teaachings of buddhism, christianity, islam, etc are similar. Like two brothers in a family will have different tastes.( For instance, my sister excels in arts stuff like singing, dacning....etc whereas I was always known as a maths brain, totally different fields).

That said, I think i can point you out two main differences between those religions and Buddhism.

1 God. being the main difference between these religions, the deistic approach is infact rejected in buddhism. The concept of eternal, all powerful god is not only be not-accepted, but the stories like creation of the world, 7day rain, Noah's arc.. etc might be laughed at (similarly others will laugh at ciclycal ideologies in buddhism and I think it os natural. Similar to us Sri Lankans saying Sigiriya is the 8th world wonder when chinese, mexicans, arabics and many others claims the same with their erections)

    2. According to buddhism, there's no escape from your 'karma' which will come after you like a shadow. Having faith and praying will not change that fact.

    3. Buddhists believe that every desire, every craving results in suffering. may it be your love for your girl, may it be for your life when you are killing a venomous serpent which was going to bite you, everything will ultimately result in greif. But both those exemplary cases will be accepted in other religions. Moreover, many religions will approve killing animals for food, since 'God created animals and nature to be harvested my human. But buddhism consider all those as seperate entities without any recognition over each other,

    4. The core of the buddhism is based on cause-effect reasoning and the 'eight-fold path' is further developed upon that with the practical knowledge from buddha (or so as buddhism states). Whereas catholic and islamis...etc religions are based on judaism (which is 5000yrs old) which is developed in early ages. The imergence of deistic ideas might go lot further than that. But the source of that is so simple (yet bitter) that I will not explain it here. (But you will find the reason simply if you read your posts carefully(Y2K).

So there are many more differences. but reading the following article might help you if you are interested. But i dont know if that is biased or not. deciding that is burdened upon you.

In the Secret Book of John, written by 185 A.D. at the latest, reincarnation is placed at the center of the discussion concerning the salvation of souls. The following is a summary of the Secret Book of John's perspective on reincarnation.

Everyone has drunk from the water of forgetfulness and lives in a state of ignorance. Some people are able to overcome ignorance by having the life-giving Spirit descend upon them. These souls "will be saved and will become perfect," that is, escape the cycle of birth and rebirth. John asks Jesus what will happen to those who do not attain salvation. They are hurled down "into forgetfulness" and thrown into "prison," the Christian Gnostic symbol for a new body.

Jesus says the only way for these souls to escape is to acquire knowledge after coming from forgetfulness. A soul can accomplish this by finding a teacher (Like Lord Buddha) who can lead the soul in the right direction:

"This soul needs to follow another soul in whom the Spirit of life dwells, because she is saved through the Spirit. Then she will never be thrust into flesh again." (Secret Book of John 14:20)

You are right my brother I appreciate your efforts and the way you express your thoughts you are right Actually I can tell you one thing many people think if they have sufficient faith they can be saved .......... but Jesus said "we have to act accordingly"

Actually in my article i have told you that firstly I am going to point out some similarities and then I'll explain the differences as well but seeing my very first letter all people got angry with me so i decide to stop posting my other letters
