- Per-user processes and threads.
- password change policies are baked in.


*Unix:
- Asymmetric and symmetric auth.
- Encrypting file system. Protected /dev/* instances.
- Escalated permissions.
- Drivers, socks, file, everything bound to user permissions.
- Using root account is discouraged by practice.
- No password change enforcements baked into OS's.

File Access:
Windows:
- Bitlocker.
- NTFS supports system, hidden, read-only attributes only. Individual files/folders can be locked with user's private key.

*Nix:
- file owner attributes.
- user groups for file access. Processes themselves inherit the user's perms.
- granular access bitmask: owner, group, public. Read, write and execute permission.
- sudo always prompts password, escalates only for the operation.
