All arguments produced by police in court today to justify the cancellation of the rally under the theme “Let’s build people’s power against the frenzy of the executive, nepotism and hunger for power” that had been planned to be held at Ananda Samarakone Arena at Nugegoda at 3.00 p.m. today were rejected by Nugegoda Magistrates Court and ordered that the JVP is allowed to hold its rally at the said venue.
The Court issued this order when the complaint filed against the JVP Member for Jayawardenepura - Kotte Urban Council Kasun Dhanushka Perera by Mirihana Police was taken for inquiry today.
Mr. Kasun Dhanushka Perera had reserved the venue from Jayawardenepura-Kotte Municipality to hold the rally by forwarding necessary documents on the 20th. Later, on the 25th he had obtained permission from police to use a public address system at the rally. However, later on the same day the HQI Mirihana Police had informed Mr. Perera that the permission given to the rally had to be cancelled as a health clinic was to be held at the same venue. Later, Mirihana Polcie filed a case against Mr. Perera for attempting to use a public address system without permission.
The JVP has already made arrangements to hold this rally at Hyde Park today. The rally would be broadcast live over www.tv.jvpsrilanka.com today.
