Courts suspends 3 environment taxes

Courts today (Dec. 01) suspended the three environment taxes imposed by the Ministry of Environment on communication towers, CFL bulbs and vehicles in the Western Province.
Accordingly the three gazettets issued by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka stand suspended. The decision to impose the tax was taken as these abovementioned were a pollutant to the environment. A group including Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera filed a petition in courts against the imposition of the taxes.
