Director General of Information Prof. Ariyaratna Atugala has said the government has paid utmost attention to the Dambulla mosque issue and will resolve it fast.

He has said the President, Prime Minister and the government have taken this matter seriously and will soon find a solution.

According to him the Dambulla sacred area development project will go ahead without causing any discrimination to any religious community.

He has said in a press release that Sri Lanka as a multi-religious multi-racial country has always respected the democratic rights of all socio-religious communities and all citizens are at liberty to practice their individual religions, attend religious practices without any hindrance.

“These rights are enshrined in the constitution. This country has a long tradition of religious tolerance. Local extremists or foreign conspirators will not be allowed to dismantle the secular society of our country. Government is always vigilant about maintaining religious harmony in the country,” he said.
