    Judas Priest - Jugulator
year 1997 review:Expectations were high for Jugulator, the first release

    263459.jpg

from Judas Priest since Rob Halford left to form Fight in 1993. Indeed, the album debuted at an impressive number 82 on the Billboard album chart. New singer Ripper Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, almost lives up to the hype as a ballsy singer, but he lacks the upper octave range that made Halford's voice distinctive. The lack of distinction is primarily what makes this album a lukewarm rehash of 1990's Painkiller. The title song itself is merely a weak rewrite of "Painkiller," while musically the band has become derivative where once it was innovative. This is particularly true in the case of guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton, who unashamedly ape the soloing style of the boys from Slayer. Also failing to impress are the lyrics on Jugulator, which are juvenile by even the crudest standards of heavy metal (though lyrics have never been the band's ace in the hole). Judas Priest may deserve praise for refusing to abandon heavy metal in its time of need, but that doesn't excuse this rather pedestrian affair from sounding entrenched in late-'80s thrash.

    Led Zeppelin - Mothership

    zeppelin-mothership_.jpg

Led Zeppelin redefined rock in the Seventies and for all time. They were as influential in that decade as the Beatles were in the prior one. Their impact extends to classic and alternative rockers alike. Then and now, Led Zeppelin looms larger than life on the rock landscape as a band for the ages with an almost mystical power to evoke primal passions.

    - from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's web page on the band's 1995 induction: It's rare that a group can truly rock today s world, but the arrival of Mothership, the first-ever comprehensive 2CD Led Zeppelin compilation with the soon to follow re-release
of The Song Remains The Same on CD & DVD and a concert event reuniting Jimmy Page,
Robert Plant and John Paul Jones qualifies. Produced by Page and mixed by Kevin Shirley,
Mothership's 24 monolithic tracks were selected and sequenced by the band, who also
oversaw the painstaking remastering. Spanning their epic career, the unprecedented
collection pulls immortal songs from all eight of the band s classic studio albums,
one of the 20th century s most enduring bodies of musical work. Arguably the most influential
and innovative rock band ever, Led Zeppelin has sold over 200 million records worldwide.
They continue to inspire successive generations with their passionate, groundbreaking,
genre-transcendent, mystic, heavy and blues-infused rock n roll. Forty years since they formed,
the song indeed remains the same.

    Scorpions - Lovedrive

    Scorpions-net.jpg

year 1979 review:Prior to Lovedrive's recording, the Scorpions' lineup had a major change when their lead guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, quit the group and the rockLovedrive, which makes it one of their finest. genre was rapidly changing. With this in mind, the band not only highlighted the album with the licks and riffs of three guitarists (Rudolf Schenker, Michael Schenker, Matthias Jabs), but they also dramatically changed their style to sound more like that of Van Halen. This change is quite welcome; not only are the performances more unpredictable, but the lyrics and melodies are better written. In fact, some of the Scorpions' most classic songs, such as "Loving You Sunday Morning," "Holiday," and "Coast to Coast" are found on Lovedrive, which makes it one of their finest.

Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil

year 2005 review:Avenged Sevenfold's first two albums had a clear

    AvengedSevenfold.jpg

influence from heavy metal, but the California combo also freely incorporated emo, screamo, and post-hardcore elements. The mixing and matching meant 2003's Waking the Fallen had as many sighing harmonies as it did harmonized guitar freakouts. And yet City of Evil, the band's third record and Warner debut, is absolutely rife with the imagery and pacing of classic metal. Look at that artwork. It features a skeletal swordsman flying a steed with steaming nostrils over the urban inferno of the title; tattoos, demons, and a skull with flapping wings adorn the lyric book. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal influence is immediate and prevalent, from the maniacally rippling percussion throughout to the triumphantly whining lead guitars in the chorus of "Blinded in Chains," or the soaring melody in "Burn It Down" that meets its match in Metallica-styled verses. The downshifts into guttural roars are largely gone, replaced by better-integrated atmospheric stretches or the tighter songcraft of a track like "Bat Country," which intersects punk and pop influences in a manner similar to My Chemical Romance. At over seven minutes, "Wicked End" is a late-album standout. Vocalist M. Shadows rips through couplets like "We've grown in numbers, six hundred sixty-six/War breaks, a sign of the end, eternally expelled/Look to the sky for knowledge, the stars align tonight," guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance trade off blistering solos, and there's a full choral interlude in the center, complete with an angelic host and sighing cellos. Which is all totally metal, and refreshingly unmarred by attempts to fit too many jumbled genres in. City of Evil's ballads are a little trite, and even its double-bass raging doesn't necessarily break new ground. But Avenged Sevenfold gets all the pieces right, and sound like they're having more fun here than in the scattershot approach of the first couple records. Great album!!!

Maha Kali, dark mother dance for me
Let the purity of your nakedness awaken me
Yours are the fires of deliverance which shall bring me bliss
Yours is the cruel sword which shall set my spirit free

Devourer of life and death who rule beyond time
In thy name I shall fullfil my destiny divine
Maha Kali, formless one, destroyer of illusion
Your songs forever sung, the tunes of dissolution

Kalika, black tongue of fire, embrace me
Make me one with your power for all eternity
Awaken within me the reflection of your flame
Kiss me with your bloody lips and drive me insane

    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
Make me one with your power for all eternity
    Maha Kali come to me

Smashana Kali, I burn myself for thee
I cut my own throat in obscene ecstasy
I make love to abominations, embrace pain and misery
Until my heart becomes the burning ground and Kali comes to me

O dark mother, hear me calling thee
    Mahapralaya, bring to me
Through all illusions I shall see
I shall cremate this world and set my essence free

    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
Without fear I will dance with death and misery
    Maha Kali, come to me

"O Kali, thou art fond of cremation grounds
So I have turned my heart into one, that thou
    may dance there unceasingly.
O mother, I have no other fond desire in my
heart. Fire of a funeral pyre is burning there."

    [Female voice:]
Jai Maha Kali, Jai Ma Kalika
Jai Maha Kali, Jai Ma Kalika
    Kali Mata, namo nama
    Kali Mata, namo nama

    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
At your left hand for endless victory
    Maha Kali, come to me

    Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
Mahapralaya will set our spirits free
    Maha Kali, come to me
