An attempt by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to visit the same temple which was due to be visited by Common Presidential candidate Gen (Retd) Sarath Fonseka in the Kotte area failed, after the monks protested about the move, a temple spokesman said.
Gen Fonseka was scheduled to visit the Kotte Naga Viharaya today at 6.00p.m, but the security of the Defence Secretary turned up and informed he monks that Mr Rajapaksa too wanted to visit the same temple in the evening, the spokesman said.
He said as a result they had stop making arrangements to receive Gen Fonseka for the pre-arranged pooja.
However, later the monks protested and the Defence Secretary was due to visit another temple.
