Government supporters in Sri Lanka gathered outside the Canadian Embassy in Colombo on Wednesday to protest what they claim was Canada’s support for the Tamil Tiger insurgents.

The protestors pelted the embassy with stones, sprayed its walls with graffiti and painted over a security camera.

The group says Canada failed to protect Sri Lankans and their property.
While the Colombo protestors saw Canada as a Tamil supporter, many Tamil Canadians say the federal government ignored their plight.

Tamils in Canada protested right across the country over the last month, calling for Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government to intervene in Sri Lanka’s civil war. The conflict ended last week when the Tamil’s leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, was killed.
