A seven-year-old girl in the Mawilmada area in Katugastota, Kandy, who had contracted dengue, succumbed to the dreaded disease last morning.
D. J. Dewmini Ayesha, a second-year student at Mahamaya College, Kandy, was admitted to Kandy general hospital last Friday to receive treatment for a different ailment.
However, after certain tests at the hospital, it was found that she had contracted dengue. The little girl, the youngest in the family of three children – two sisters and a brother - died last morning.
Incidentally, her sister is also receiving treatment for dengue at the Kandy general hospital.
