"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch
and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed,
the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry.
Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know?
For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
~ Julius Caesar ~

"Why of course the people don't want war ... But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger."
~ Hermann Goering, Nazi leader, at the Nuremberg Trials after World War II ~

"Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it."
~ General Douglas MacArthur ~

General Douglas Macarther, one of the people Atulasiriwardana has quated is a great winner. Anyway, if people are to believe what these sayings express is true , they would have to be uttered by a greatest of great winners, say Mahinda Rajapaksha. :D:D :D

:D There are many reasons when we quote one. Most of these quotes show the stupidity of the people who helped them to gain power.
They look down upon their followers.

"If my soldiers were to begin to think, not one of them would remain in the army."
~ Frederick the Great ~

He is so rude that he insults his own Army. Who knows that how many Genarals think same of their army. In front of others they may treat them as heroes.. but in secret it is possible that they look down upon them.

I quoted Hitler not because I think he is a hero.
He is the best Tyrant in the recent history, but don't forget that he gained power by many who hated Jews. He gained power by votes of stupid people who respected him as a hero because they share the same hatred.
And those quotes show how do they think of their people.
They lost because of their lust of power.

But remember that their were millions of idiots who couldn't see their true nature till it is too late. I meet such people where ever I go... so I can imagine how did they gain power and make people suffer to remain in power.

"How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
~ Adolf Hitler ~
