Sri Lanka rubbish Dilshan dope reports

Sri Lankan cricket officials have rubbished news reports that suggested Tilakaratne Dilshan tested positive in a dope test.

The Sri Lankan team manager, Brian Thomas, told ESPNSTAR.com that Dilshan did not even undergo the dope test.
"The only two cricketers who underwent the test included Chamara Silva and Ajantha Mendis," Thomas said.
"These are all rubbish going around the media here. These are all false reports," he said.
Earlier, Sri Lankan media reports claimed that Dilshan tested positive with a banned substance in the routine test conducted by the ICC in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup.
The only player to have tested positive during the World Cup is Australia's Shane Warne.

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan opener Dilshan Tillakaratne has become only the second player to have been tested positive in a dope test amid an ongoing World Cup tournament, local media reported Wednesday.

Sri Lankan media claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had selected Tillakaratne Dilshan for its random dope test during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and on Wednesday he was tested positive.

Tillakaratne Dilshan has now joined Shane Warne in the list of the players tested positive during the world cup tournament.

Shane Warne was made to return home after tested positive for a banned substance, i.e. hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride, both of which diuretics normally used to aid temporary weight loss, during the 2003 World Cup held in South Africa.

The positive dope test result of Dilshan has dented Sri Lankan cricket team’s chances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to some extent as he was an integral part of the squad and was responsible for providing an express start in company of Upul Tharanga, the local media viewed.

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara is expected to address media shortly over Dilshan’s positive dope test.

මෙහි අවසන් සාම්පල එකතුව ඉකුත් 5 දා පැවැති එහෙත් අයහපත් කාලගුණය හේතුවෙන් අත්හරින ලද ශ්‍රී ලංකා ඔස්‌ටේ්‍රලියා තරගයේ දී එක්‌ ක්‍රීඩකයකුගෙන් ලබා ගෙන ඇත.

අදාළ සාම්පල සියල්ල පරීක්‌ෂණ සඳහා ජගත් තහනම් උත්තේජක නිවාරණ ඒජන්සියේ සහ ජගත් ක්‍රිකට්‌ කවුන්සිලයේ අනුමැතිය ලත් එංගලන්තයේ පිහිටි විශේෂ පර්යේෂණාගාරයකට යෑවීමට නියමිතය.

ඉකුත් පෙබරවාරි මස 19 දා ඇරඹි ලෝක කුසලාන ක්‍රිකට්‌ තරගාවලියේ අවසන් මහ තරගය පැවැත්වෙන ලබන අප්‍රේල් 2 දා දක්‌වා කාලය අතර පරීක්‌ෂණ සඳහා ලබා ගැනීමට නියමිත මුත්‍රා සාම්පල සංඛ්‍යාව 100 ක්‌ වේ. ඉන් සාම්පල 30 ක්‌ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පැවැත්වෙන තරගවලදී ක්‍රීඩකයන්ගෙන් ලබා ගැනීමට නියමිතය.

මේ අතර ලෝක තහනම් උත්තේජක නිවාරණ ආයතනයේ යුනෙස්‌කෝ ප්‍රඥප්තියට ශ්‍රී ලංකා රාජ්‍ය කැබිනට්‌ මණ්‌ඩලයේද අනුමැතිය ලැබී ඇති හෙයින් තහනම් උත්තේජක භාවිත වරදට හසුවන ඕනෑම ක්‍රීඩකයකුට අදාළ දඬුවම් පැමිණ වීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දැන් රාජ්‍ය මට්‌ටමින් බැඳී සිටියි.

Pallekele: Claims that Sri Lanka all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan has been tested positive with a banned substance have been strongly refuted by Sri Lankan officials and the team's vice-captain, Mahela Jayawardene.
This emerged at a Group A World Cup 2011 pre-match media conference at the international cricket venue near Kandy on Wednesday.

Jayawardene laughed it off when asked whether a claim by an Indian media source earlier in the day had any truth. It was suggested that it was a "spook (rumour) story" designed to upset the Sri Lanka team and players on the eve of the game Thursday against Zimbabwe.
"(What I can confirm is that) we have had two players tested. Dilshan is not one of them," he said. "The players are Ajantha Mendis and Chamara Silva. I am not too sure about where this story has come from but there is no truth in it."
The team's media manager, Brian Thomas confirmed that Dilshan was not asked to give a sample for testing.
