Digitally remastered and expanded three disc (two CDs + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) edition of this 1996 album. Suede recruited 17-year-old guitarist Richard Oakes, following the departure of Bernard Butler. Oakes joined for the Dog Man Star tour, after which the band returned to the studio to record their third album. At this point they also enlisted keyboard player Neil Codling. The resulting album, issued in 1996, entered the album charts at 1 and spawned five Top Ten singles and is their biggest-selling album. This deluxe edition features the non-album b-sides as well as demos from the collections of Brett Anderson, Richard Oakes and Neil Codling. The DVD features the previously unreleased concert video Live At The Roundhouse featuring a guest appearance from Neil Tennant. Also featured is Suede In Paris, a newly-discovered full-length film of Richard Oakes' first ever concert with the band in October 1994. The bonus feature is a February 2011 interview with Brett, Richard and Neil about the making of the album, along with a short film put together by Simon Gilbert from his own contemporary camcorder footage.

The Complete Blue Note/UA/Roulette Recordings of Thad Jones is a wonderful limited-edition three-disc box set, containing everything the trumpeter recorded for the labels in the late '50s. Jones was a fantastic hard bop trumpeter, and the set captures him in all of his glory, making it of interest to serious hard bop connoisseurs.
With the greatest justification, Thad Jones is remembered as a giant among composers and arrangers of the second half of the century. As co-leader and director of the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, he was an imposing and magnetic figure. But there was much more to Jones.
Before he started devoting most of his time and energy to writing and leadership he was unique among trumpet players of the 1950s-and since-for his power, fluidity and harmonic originality. His qualities as a composer and an improviser were inextricably intermeshed. He avoided the obvious; his compositions were as unusual as his choices of notes in a solo. Long before he left Detroit to join Count Basie in New York in 1954, he was a writer with deeply personal traits. His ingenuity as a composer/arranger and a player is on extensive and satisfying display in this Mosaic box.
Some of Jones' charts on his first Blue Note session date from the early '50s, when he was with Billy Mitchell at the Blue Bird in Detroit. His writing and playing on pieces like "Zec," "Scratch" and his unusual arrangement of "Blue Room" show that he had long since harnessed his imagination, wisdom and resourcefulness. Those qualities intensified over the next three decades. His harmonic knowledge rivaled the chordal acumen of Fats Navarro. His tone was as personal a hallmark as Miles Davis' or Kenny Dorham's. In fluency, he was in the same league as Dizzy Gillespie. The unconventional intervals and wry humor that permeated his writing were also abundant in his playing. There are more than three hours of his brilliance here, and it may startle those who remember him only for occasional solos in the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra.
The collection begins in the spring of 1956. It ends four years later when Jones was still with Basie but becoming increasingly driven to develop his own outlet. The core of musicians in his sessions consisted of other members of the Detroit jazz community who had moved to New York: His brothers Elvin and Hank, tenor saxophonist Billy Mitchell, pianists Tommy Flanagan and Barry Harris, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Paul Chambers. Other players included Percy Heath, Max Roach, George Duvivier, Gigi Gryce, Benny Powell, Oscar Pettiford, Al Grey, Richard Davis, Shadow Wilson, Osie Johnson-a cross section of the decade's elite.
Mitchell and Flanagan are on all but a few of the 27 tracks. Some of Mitchell's best work on record is here, a reminder that this constantly improving tenor man has never received the recognition he deserves. Flanagan is superb throughout. Like Hank and Thad Jones, he seems to have emerged from Detroit fully developed and kept growing within his style. Elvin Jones, on the other hand, was evolving his approach. In the 1959 United Artists date, you can hear him edging toward the polyrhythms that would be so important to John Coltrane.
As for the leader, his playing is on a high plane from beginning to end. His creative musical thinking, passion of expression and clarity of execution are remarkable. I hear only one outright wrong note choice or mistake by him in the three CDs (in the final chorus of "I've Got A Crush On You") and a miniscule percentage of the fluffs and near misses that any player experiences in the course of spontaneous creation. Few improvisers who take Jones' kind of risks could match that consistency.
During the last 20 years of his life Thad Jones relegated his playing to second or third place behind his writing and band leading. His soloing could be as magnificent as ever, but several of his colleagues use the same phrase, "like pulling teeth," when they talk about what it took to get him to pick up his horn. For a long time before his interest shifted, however, he was one of the most original trumpet soloists of his generation. The evidence is here.

The cynical may question just how many Beach Boys greatest hits albums are enough. Non-cynics, however, will appreciate what makes The Very Best Of... unique. This is the first single-disc collection to feature such a large cross-selection of hits from the group's entire career, spanning 1962's "Surfin' Safari" through to 1988's "Kokomo". All 30 tracks, spanning several label changes are probably now as identifiable as the national anthem to anyone with radio or TV access. The fact that the tracks aren't in chronological order helps make for a fresh listening experience, as does the crisp digital sound. And yet these songs--even those that are more than four decades old--always sound strangely fresh and will likely remain so as long as there are beaches, young people and that symbolic season of freedom and dreams. Perfect for those casual fans not yet ready to spring for the individual albums, The Very Best of the Beach Boys is, in many ways, a better representation of this legendary band's art than Elvis' 30 No 1 Hits and the Beatles' 1 were of the King and the Fab Four. --Bill Holdship

They formed the group Tom & Jerry in 1957 and had their first success with the minor hit "Hey, Schoolgirl". As Simon & Garfunkel, the duo rose to fame in 1965, largely on the strength of the hit single "The Sound of Silence".

This is the first-ever single disc compilation of the Guess Who's top 40 hits.
There have been plenty of Guess Who collections on the market, from the original Best of the Guess Who to the multi-disc Track Record. Of all of these, the best is the 1999 collection Greatest Hits, which contains a generous 18 songs, including all but two of their charting American singles -- not counting 1965's "Shakin' All Over," the missing songs are "Broken" (the B-side to "Albert Flasher") and "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon" (which barely scraped the charts). Although the Guess Who's albums are distinctive (more so than their reputation would lead you to believe), there's little question that they're best heard as a singles band, and this is the best place to hear them that way. After a spin of Greatest Hits, it's clear that the Guess Who made some of the best mainstream rock of their era -- and while they never received much critical respect (apart from iconoclast Lester Bangs, of course), their music holds up better than much of their peers', which means that the Guess Who deserves to have the last laugh

The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld is the seminal 1991 ambient house-concept debut album by the electronic music collective The Orb. The album's framework is of a two-hour psychedelic trip through music genres and studio electronics, produced to "push the threshold" of live stage performance. The double album is a continuous progressive composition consisting of several tracks advancing the journey concept and composed of vocal samples and sound effects interspersed with original music.There are three versions, a 109:41 minute UK release, a 70:41 minute U.S. release and a 182:05 minute UK Deluxe Edition reissue that was released in mid 2006.

This concert, filmed on Peace Day: 21st September 2007, celebrates the efforts of those working for peace around the world. Featuring Annie Lennox, Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison, Marc Almond, and Kate Nash. Special guests include Jude Law and HRH Prince Azim of Brunei as well as Jeremy Gilley. Four mini films throughout the concert give full information about the aims of the movement, encouragement to participate and the plan for the future. Peace One Day began life as a film project, the vision of one man, British filmmaker, Jeremy Gilley.
Jeremy Gilley is an actor turned filmmaker, who in the late 1990's became preoccupied with questions about the fundamental nature of humanity and the issue of peace. He decided to explore these through the medium of film, and specifically, to create a documentary following his campaign to establish a globally-recognised day of ceasefire and non-violence.
In 1999 Jeremy founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation and in 2001 Peace One Day's efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September annually - Peace Day. In 2006, for the first time in the Day's history, Peace One Day successfully drove the initiative to instigate commitments to Peace Day in 200 countries, including all 192 UN member states, directly involving 27.6 million people. In 2007, Peace Day was celebrated by over 100 million people in 192 countries.

"100 Years Ago", "Sweet Virginia" and "Bitch" were only performed in Vienna and Cologne, and in London on September 7 only. "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" and Dancing With Mr. D", on the other hand, were somewhat regularly rotated; neither was played at every concert.
