Does ‘patriotic’ Mahinda Rajapakse work according to advice from ‘patriotic Manmohan Singh asks General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva. Speaking at a press conference held today (20th) Mr. Tilvin Silva said the President and the government that denounce apolitical Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka stating he has given into foreign forces and has betrayed the country has not made any explanation regarding the agreement of 10 points Mr. Mahinda Rajapske reached with Minister Douglas Devanand and the report in ‘The Nation’ of Pakistan which had stated that Gen. Sarath Fonseka and other senior military leaders were removed from their positions on advice from Indian Premier Manmohan Singh.
Mr. Silva said, “The government says there are foreign powers behind Gen. Sarath Fonseka. However, they don’t say who these powers are. They accuse Gen. Fonseka of betraying the country basing their points on a wrong article published in a newspaper. Gen. Fonseka took measures to correct this and the relevant newspaper too has published a correction of the article. Newspapers make such mistakes sometimes. A correction is always accepted. However, the government is so bankrupt it goes on charging Gen. Fonseka using the same newspaper article.
It is this government that has capitulated to foreign forces. They take decisions according to direction from these forces. While the war was going on Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse signed an agreement with the Ambassador of the USA. Also, a report published in ‘The Nation’ a Pakistani newspaper has stated Gen. Fonseka and other Army higher-ups were removed from their positions on instructions from Manmohan Singh. This advice was followed. Navy Commander Wasanthe Karannagoda was removed. Most of the Army officers who were in the front were transferred to various places.
Five days have passed since ‘The Nation’ published the article. The government has not taken any step to correct this if it was wrong. As such, we would like to know whether the ‘patriotic’ government of Mahinda Rajapakse works according to instructions from ‘patriotic’ Manmohan Singh.
