Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena accused the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka of manipulating the entire political leadership and Parliament. The Minister made this observation in Parliament addressing the Committee Stage Debate on Budget 2022 during the debate on the Expenditure Heads of the Trade Ministry.
Having admitted that there is a Dollar crisis in the country as a result of wrong foreign reserves management, he said that certain outside parties are capitalizing the on the discord between MPs during Parliament sittings and trying to create issues to rouse the public and cause turmoil within the country.
“This group of officials are misleading the country’s leadership, Parliament and the ministers in pursuit of their own agendas. By doing that we are unable to fulfill our primary tasks and end up fighting with each other here. What I am trying to prove is that a group of officials from the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank are the ones engaged in this action.”
