What is your camera model? If it's Canon you can set your autofocus points to manual in semi-auto-modes and manual mode only. As I can remember use the zoom in/out to access focus point and then the arrow keys to set.

As I too remember, you have to select the AF to be single point and rotate the front wheel while holding the shutter at AF level. I do not have XP with 7100.
