Effect of Pfizer & AstraZeneca vaccines on older people (> 70 yo)

Results of a study of Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 and Oxford-AstraZeneca ChAdOx1-S vaccines against confirmed covid-19 symptoms (including the UK variant of concern B.1.1.7), admissions to hospital, and deaths.
Results from 156 930 adults aged 70 years and older who reported symptoms of covid-19 between 8 December 2020 and 19 February 2021.

This study shows that

• A single dose of either BNT162b2 or ChAdOx1-S provides significant protection against covid-19 and further protection against severe disease lasting at least six weeks, including against the UK variant of concern (B.1.1.7)
• BNT162b2 and ChAdOx1-S offer similar levels of protection in adults aged 70 and older
