Some of the candidates in the field - Pati Aiya; Sarpaya; Abey Aiya; Ralahamy; Chokka; Sudu Malli; Deiyya; Kiri Aiya; Heen Bappa; and the like, are the hopefuls to be members of the next provincial councils in these two provinces. After all, these are the country's second string of politicians. And the Provincial Councils will be in their hands very soon.

Nimal Siripala knows no 'left' & 'right'

    Monday, 18 August 2008 15:30

Minister of Health Nimal Siripala de Silva went on state owned ITN channel with two photographs of UNP Sabaragamuwa Chief Ministerial candidate Ramanayake and argued the injuries are fake, as the two photos show injuries had changed from the right hand to the left.

"Nimal Siripala does not know that when 'Divamina' published a flipped over photo, the sides change in the photo but not in Ramanayake," said a UNP Media Consultant at the Maitland Crescent office, Colombo.

This Minister who is in charge of citizens’ health, must be ashamed to use this type of cheap publicity gimmicks as he is at least expected to behave with some decorum, said the same source.

Explaining the issue of injuries changing hands, he said the Sinhala newspaper “Divamina” had carried a photo of the UNP aspirant with his right hand bandaged after the mob attack Pelmadulla, speaking to another at a public rally, alongside another cropped photo of Ramanayake that had been flipped over to change sides.

This is very apparent as the texts in the banner behind Ramanayake appears reversed too, he said.

“This is obviously cheap mud slinging,” said the Media Consultant, adding that the people of Ratnapura who would vote for Ramanayake and the UNP see him very often and know best that he was in fact attacked by UPFA thugs.
