Why people spend a fortune to fix solar despite getting CEB electricity is financially beneficial? Same thing applies to starlink.

Fair point I guess but unlike solar this isn't a onetime investment with a return for said investment.

So unless it's way cheaper than what is already on offer, atleast in the long run, I'm not very optimistic about it taking off (in Sri Lanka)

dude wtf? Where did you get these?

Starlink equipment prices starts from $599
Monthly residential plans start from $99

That's US prices. Cheaper in most other countries.

It's the feeling of independency machan. Your internet comes from a satellite so you don't need to worry about what happens in the country. You can forget all the shitshows of local ISPs. You pay the price monthly online and everything runs smoothly. High speed and unlimited.

And the mobile unit makes it better

Well you got to keep paying for both services in that case (Starlink for the feeling of independence and the local ISP for better speeds and stability).

The majority of internet users in SL would choose one between the two I think

It has been available to Pre-Order since 2021. Typical Sinhalese :ROFLMAO:

Really don't see the point if it's more expensive, slower and susceptible to weather conditions than what we already have

The monthly cost is what really matters in the end. It could become a success here in SL if they manage to offer unlimited internet for under $35ish/mo
its a satellite service, so costly. many will not able to afford it. not suitable for home use at all I think

    No idea abt that.

    It’s $9 rn & they’re saying that they’ll start in 2024.

It was $99, and right now it’s only $9. Also they’re saying that they’ll start in 2024.
    Did you see this? 👇

Of course I saw that and I have been following Starlink updates since from a long time. it was reduced to $9 by end of 2023.

And in 2021, the expected launch year was 2022. In 2022 end, they changed it to 2023, now it’s changed to 2024.

Starlink will certainly have regional prices, below is in Mozambique in Africa, monthly retail is in LKR approx. LKR 7500.

In Mozambique, the price of the same system has been cut from 40,492 MZN (R14,621) to 22,000 MZN (R7,944), an even bigger reduction of 45.7%. These prices do not include the subscription fees, which will set you back another R950 per month in Eswatini and 1,530 MZN (R454) in Mozambique.
