Bomb blast in Colombo targets military bus, 4 killed, 23 wounded

At least 27 persons, including civilians, were wounded Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. near Slave Island junction in Colombo where a bomb exploded targeting a bus carrying military personnel, initial reports said. Four of the wounded have succumbed to their wounds, according to medical sources.

The bus has sustained damage.

LTTE terrorists have carried out a cowardly bomb attack targeting civilians and an Army bus carrying sick personnel at Slave Island in Colombo this morning (January 2). According to the available information the bomb has been exploded around 9.30 a.m. right opposite the Nippon Hotel.

Four people including one soldier and three civilians have been killed and 24 others injured in the explosion. According to the hospital sources, two women are among the dead. Also, there are 14 civilians and 10 soldiers among the injured. Four of the injured are in critical conditions, the sources added.

The bomb has been apparently placed inside the external unit of the Air conditioning machine of the Nippon Hotel.

LTTE terrorists have carried out a cowardly bomb attack targeting civilians and an Army bus carrying sick personnel at Slave Island in Colombo this morning (January 2). According to the available information the bomb has been exploded around 9.30 a.m. right opposite the Nippon Hotel.

Also, there are 14 civilians and 10 soldiers among the injured. Four of the injured are in critical conditions, the sources added.

The bomb has been apparently placed inside one of the external unit of the Air conditioning machines of the Nippon Hotel. The hotel is located opposite St. Mary's Catholic Church. The church building and several vehicles at location have received damages due to the explosion.
