It's always good to have competitors on the market.
Facebook and google are both innovative companies. But in Google+ lot of facebook features are there. Only few new features with great user interface than facebook.
But google will bundle this with their superior products like Chrome Browser/OS, Android, Gmail, Youtube, Google Search etc.. And they will use the massive wealth to offer features like cloud storage for all your content for free like Microsoft does, live streaming from home, free international calls to friends, free sms/mms etc..
Facebook still have no great way to earn money from their platform. Social networking is not really profitable if you don't have other products or services.
So in facebook they mostly telling they have created a big market place for people to sell products and advertising. Actually in my mind it's totally out of control and very bad practice. Any kid or abuser can easily use some bad tricks and create a fan page with thousands of fans. After that they can use all of those people for advertising, selling their products very easily. If you create a FB Application you can easily make the app user as a sales person to advertise your product to his/her friends even without their knowledge. And with Apps you can grab lot of personal information of others and use them for your marketing purposes. It's very easy out there. If you have some IT skills you will love how easy it allows to reach people and make them your supporters, buyers or sales persons for free. It's all legal. Normal people have no clue and they just become zombies in no time.
Even facebook itself have no standard on advertisements they allow. You can easily see that looking at your own profile.
In the other hand google dominating the web for search for many years. Actually there was no good alternative to google until Bing!. So like it or not you had to use Google. Search is one of the best marketing tools on the planet. But i like, how they never abused it and allowed doggy marketers to take over the users. They had bigger chance than facebook to do it, but they never did. Anyway google also use our search terms to display ads, reads our emails using bots to display ads inside gmail etc.. But they are not harmful like facebook does. Facebook should first learn to control their system and make profit at the same time.
Google has nothing to loose coz they have tons of other business, but sadly for facebook its now or never.
