Female Circumcision - Barbaric act!!

I am a faithful viewer of every cycle of
America's Next Top Model (ANTM).
I believe that everybody knows what this reality show is all about.
Now that cycle 10 is on air,I thought it will be just like
the previous cycle.
But what capture my attention is this girl named Fatima who is a
survivor of "Female Genital Mutilation". (FGM)

Female Genital Mutilation?
I'm pretty sure most of us don't know what this is.
In short FGM= Female circumcision.

I am truly disdain when I google search it.
I mean I've heard of male circumcision but women?
Medically, male circumcision is an effective intervention for health
purposes because the foreskin may harbor bacteria and become
infected if it is not cleaned properly.

Whereas for female circumcision, I dont see the purpose of women being circumcised. What
saddens me
most
is that this practice is widely perform today especially
in Africa because they believe that
it is meant to preserve the chastity of young girls by reducing their
desire
for sexual intercourse.
And many young girls are dying because of this barbaric act.

Female circumcision=excision of the clitoris, stitching of the
right labia major to the left leaving a small whole for urination and
menses purposes.
It is commonly performed between the ages of 4 and 8.
!!!CHILD ABUSE!!!

And FGM doesnt just stop haunting them here.It haunts them and
ripped them off their future.
FGM causes urinary and reproductive tract infections, due to
obstructed flow of urine and menstrual blood.
The aweful part is that during the first time of having sexual
intercourse will often be extremely painful, and infibulated women
will need the labia majora to be opened, to allow their
husband access to the vagina.
Thus,the husband will have to cut open the labia majora with a knife.

I feel that FGM is being practiced out of ignorance,and for
selfish male-chauvinistic reasons.I wish that I can increase
the awareness of the public to FGM through my writings.
Let us all stand against FGM!!
