Yeah designing task can be undertake in Sri Lanka. But to put it together would be harder without some help from other countries.

Such as Turbo Fan Engines, Avionics, Weapons, Etc.

Exactly, India started a project like this (HAL Tejas) and now they stuck with it without a decent engine.. and the Jets weights more than they expected (which is directly affected to it's weapon load).. we should at least start something like License built certain types of Aircraft's (Let's say Helicopters) in SL for a start. i think we still lack Depot level overhauling our own air crafts. so we still got some long way to go me thinks.

About recently purchased (5 of them) SL Navy Dvoras, they got Multibarrel rocket Launchers, Missile system, Gyro Balanced Fire control system etc. New Naval chief said that they're gonna get new Missile capable ships (Frigates i guess) and Separate Air wing for the Navy (Which is very important at this juncture)

Designing and building a fighter jet is not that difficult I guess. But making a jet that is better than what is already out there is the real challenge. I don't think SLAF has the experience nor the resources to do that.

Maybe they might be able to make something decent for a reasonable cost, which is good I think for tasks like patrolling the air space for monitoring missions etc..
