Sri Lanka Navy elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) sea units deployed in the northeastern coasted waters intercepted a group of LTTE boat around 01.30, this morning (04 Apr).

According to the Navy sources, the group of LTTE boats comprised of 10 boats including 3 suicide craft & 7 attack craft. The boats were launched from Puthumathalan coast in the no fire Zone, the sources added.

The boats attempted to make a southward-bound move when the SBS personnel intercepted them and directed naval gunfire completely destroying one enemy craft and disabling another. Two other LTTE boats which attempted to beach, unable to withstand naval fire were destroyed by ground troops.

The remaining elite boats fled carrying their casualties and landed in the No-Fire-Zone taking cover of the trapped innocent civilians inside

Three naval craft received minor damages and two sailors were injured in the incident. The exact casualty figure of the enemy is not known as at now. However, it is believed to be high due to the heavy combined fire directed at the enemy by the Navy and the ground forces.
