Mop up operations in Anandapuram terror pocket continue; 40 LTTE bodies collected Mop up operations in Anandapuram terror pocket continue; 40 LTTE bodies collected Sri Lankan soldiers continuing their mop up operations in the captured Anandapuram terrorist stronghold today (Apr 3) gave a heavy beating to the terrorists. Troops after tactically sealing off the compacted terrorist pocket yesterday (Apr 2) commenced the mop up operations that resulted in heavy close-quarter fighting in the area. According to the defence sources, troops have so far collected 40 bodies of slain LTTE cadres along with 60 T-56 rifles for the day. Among the other items captured were, four rocket propeller grenade launchers [RPG], two radio communication sets, one C-90 gun, 6 claymore mines, 15 hand grenades, 15 anti personnel mines [AP], one 60 mm mortar gun, four ammo drums of a 12.7 mm machine gun, 50 ammo used for a 25 mm machine gun and 28 military packs. 1 Special Forces elites [1SF], 2 Commando Regiment elites [2 CR], and infantrymen of 8 Gamunu Watch [8 GW], 9 GW, 12 GW, 20 Gajaba Regiment [20 GR], 6GR and 8 GR operating under the Army 58 Division were in the forefront of the battle. The SF elites, 9 GW and 8 GR soldiers inflicted the heaviest damages to the terrorists. Meanwhile, the soldiers of 58 Division have been able to rescue at least 146 civilians from the LTTE grip by this evening. The group included 29 female children, 24 male children, 47 adult females and 46 adult males. The civilians after receiving the food and immediate medical attention were rushed to the Kilinochchi IDP welfare centre. Meanwhile ground sources said LTTE terrorists have continued with 130mm direct-roll gun attacks at the forging troops.
