Marking a new chapter in the history of Sri Lanka, for the first time a Sri Lankan woman has won the opportunity to judge an Olympic Games and act as a match referee.
Chief Inspector of Police T. Nelka Shiromala representing the Sri Lanka Police has won this special opportunity for the Olympic Games, held in Tokyo, Japan this year.
Accordingly, she will be a judge and a referee for boxing at the Olympics this year.
Shiromala is also the first female boxing referee to represent Sri Lanka at an international tournament.
She also won the Best Boxing Referee award in Asia in 2017, making it the first time an Asian woman has won the Best Boxing Referee award.
