Fonseka makes ten point pledge

Common opposition candidate General (retd) Sarath Fonseka made a ten point pledge as he launched his election campaign in Kandy this morning which included a promise to abolish the Press Council Act and strengthen laws to fight corruption.

The pledge was made in front of party leaders as well as member of the Buddhists clergy.

The pledges also include the abolition of the executive presidency and the appointment of the Constitutional Council.

He also pledged that once elected he would set up a caretaker government comprise members of all political parties in Parliament and ensure that that a free and parliamentary election is held.
