:(:sorry:'Memphis is struggling because he misses his mother'

    memphis-depay-manchester-united_g7omdp0c1acq1k06p1tlzl46y.jpg

Former PSV manager Fred Rutten believes that Memphis Depay's struggles at Manchester United may be in part down to being so far away from his mother.

Memphis, who moved to Old Trafford following a stellar season in which he won the Eredivisie as the league's top scorer in 2015, has failed to recreate the same form he showed in the Netherlands and has found first-team opportunities hard to come by as a result.

With his father having walked out on the family when he was a child, the 22-year-old naturally has a strong relationship with his mother and Rutten, Memphis' former boss, believes not being able to see her regularly may be affecting his performances.

"He has a very good relationship with his mother and I think that's part of it," he told the Manchester Evening News. "But he's still young - young players take time to develop.

"Twenty years ago, they had much more time to impress; now they have to [perform immediately]."And while representing Manchester United at such a young age is a massive opportunity, Rutten feels that a move elsewhere might be key in helping Memphis reach his full potential.

"Sometimes, young players, they switch clubs and then you see them come back," he said."There's still big young players who leave the club and in one moment they are back again and they can develop more. I believe in the boy."

Hart: I'm at Torino because I had nowhere else to go

    joe-hart-torino_mofzpixgl9z51bfjmd59syq0c.jpg

Joe Hart has said that Pep Guardiola's decision to drop him from Manchester City's starting XI left him with no other choice but to join Torino.

Guardiola's arrival at the Etihad marked a new era and style of football, with the Catalan coach immediately moving for Claudio Bravo, whose competence with the ball at his feet made him a better fit for the club's new footballing philosophy.

As a result, Hart, a City fan favourite and still England's No.1, made the move to Turin, a switch that worked out well despite being the only one on the table.

"To be honest, it all happened very quickly and I didn't have many options," Hart told La Stampa. "If I am here, then it is because there was nowhere else for me to go."But I am grateful that this club has given me a big chance to be able to play and do so in a serious, ambitious club.

"I said yes to Torino because I had always watched Italian football on TV and I had been to Turin before. Now I just want to enjoy this season and I'm not thinking about the future."

Torino welcome cross-town rivals and defending Serie A champions Juventus on December 11, a match that will see Hart pitted against childhood hero Gianluigi Buffon in the Englishman's first Turin derby."[Gianluigi] Buffon is one of my footballing heroes, one of the best in the world. He's unique in what he does," he said.

"I've been surprised by the fans here in Italy -- our home games are spectacular.
"I'm very grateful to the fans because they spend time and money to come and watch us and I try to give them back emotions, to show them that they are also part of the squad."

Rashford can give Rooney and Ibrahimovic a problem - Redknapp

    marcus-rashford-manchester-united-premier-league-2016_1x9werq2rq6xl1l7qikro74iay.jpg

Former Premier League midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United should start Marcus Rashford as a central striker against Arsenal as he offers them a ‘different dimension’.It was against the Gunners that the 19 year old burst onto the Premier League scene in February, as he bagged a brace on his top-flight debut.

He has kicked on from there, becoming a regular in the first-team fold at Old Trafford and a senior England international with five caps to his name.Rashford has, however, often been asked to occupy a wide attacking role, with other options favoured down the middle.

He could be moved back to his favoured post on Saturday, though, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended and Wayne Rooney short on form and competitive minutes.

Redknapp feels Rashford’s senior colleagues should be concerned about the impact he could make in a high-profile clash, with it possible that they could soon be the ones shunted around in order to accommodate the talented youngster.

He wrote in a column for Sky Sports: “This was the game where he came to prominence last season, scoring twice in quick succession on his Premier League debut to help United to a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

“If he can repeat that kind of performance, suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic and captain Wayne Rooney could have a real problem on their hands. This is a massive chance for him to give United a completely different dimension that they've been lacking with those two older players in the side.

“There have been times this season when I've looked at Rashford and wanted a bit more from him. He's generally been restricted to a wide role but he's not been as sharp as he was last year.

“Maybe that's because he feels he should be starting, rather than being used from the bench. Maybe he feels he should be playing centre forward, rather than out wide. It may be born out of frustration.

“But if he gets his chance tomorrow there will be no excuses. It will just be a great platform for him to go out and show what he can do. He may feel like he needs to prove himself again - but he can put himself right to the top of the pecking order if he plays well on Saturday.”

Rashford has netted four times in 17 appearances for club and country this season, but his last effort came back on September 24 against Leicester.Saturday would be an ideal time to end that drought, with United looking to kickstart their campaign and move back to within touching distance of the Premier League’s top four.

Mourinho angered by Koeman's talk of Memphis deal

    memphis-depay_1juph26u7v6ac10fq04s4meqdf.jpg

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reacted angrily to Everton manager Ronald Koeman's public interest in Memphis Depay. The Netherlands international has failed to deliver on a consistent basis since moving to Old Trafford from PSV in the summer of 2015.

But despite his limited playing time, Mourinho was unhappy to learn of a rival boss talking about one of his players."I prefer not to make [such comments]," the manager explained in Friday's press conference.

"I think my normal answer is if somebody asks me about a player from another team, my answer is the player is not my player.

"The player belongs to another team, the player belongs to another manager, no comments at all. I think that is the ethical answer, when we are always worried about ethics, respect and rules."I just say that if it was me making those comments about an Everton player, I would be in trouble."

The 22-year-old forward has netted just seven times in 55 appearances for United in all competitions and is yet to find the net in the 2016-17 campaign.

Costa has learned to control his temper, says Conte

    diego-costa-antonio-conte-southampton-chelsea-premier-league-10302016_1ilsgrghlnq9c1kaz3aejatw90.jpg

Antonio Conte is impressed with how Diego Costa is handling himself on the pitch after improving his disciplinary record in recent weeks for Chelsea.

Costa has been on four yellow cards since he picked up a booking against Arsenal in September's 3-0 defeat, with one more meaning he will have to serve a suspension; but in recent weeks he has shown that he is able to control his famous temper.

Conte was initially worried upon joining Chelsea after Costa received two bookings for dissent, in Chelsea first two games, but he thinks that Costa has improved his temperament as well as other areas of his game, in recent weeks.

“Diego is showing he can control himself, It's fantastic," Conte said at a press conference at Cobham Training Centre. "Diego is improving a lot under a lot of aspects. For me now, Diego is one of the best strikers in the world.

"He must continue that, working in this way, with his commitment and work-rate. It's fantastic to see his work during the games, but also in training."

Costa is the Premier League's top goalscorer with nine goals in his first 11 league games of the season while his three assists also mean that he has been involved in more goals than any other player, so far this season.

Conte credited Costa's work rate as setting the standard for the rest of the Chelsea squad, as they aim to continue their run of five wins against Middlesbrough on Sunday at the Riverside Stadium.

“Diego is a very good player. The same for Eden. It's important for me, for their team-mates, to see that in every game, Diego works a lot with the ball and without the ball. He's an example for all. And I want to continue this way.

"If he continues to score, I'll be very happy. But I'll be happier to see this commitment, this work-rate during training and in games, to work with the team with and without the ball.

"If all the players are able to think in this way, it's fantastic and we'll be a good team, a very tough team to play.”

Rodgers sees Manchester United target Dembele generating Sterling fee

    moussa-dembele-of-celtic_1po9s2j3ggc401kdc3apthvc11.jpg

Brendan Rodgers believes Moussa Dembele will generate a transfer fee similar to that which took Raheem Sterling from Liverpool to Manchester City if he is to leave Celtic. The France Under-21 international striker is a man in demand, with clubs across Europe having sat up and taken notice of his talent.

Dembele has starred since swapping life at Fulham for Parkhead over the summer, with his efforts in Scotland and the Champions League helping to raise his profile.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with an imminent approach for the 20-year-old forward, while Real Madrid and Barcelona are among those said to be closely monitoring his development.

Rodgers accepts that players of such potential will inevitably move on at some stage, and he is expecting Celtic to be well rewarded when the day comes to cash in.

The club’s record sale saw Virgil van Dijk head to Southampton for £13 million in 2015, but their current boss feels Dembele’s value would be closer to the £49m he received for Sterling during his time in charge at Anfield.“I have worked with players who have gone for a lot of money,” Rodgers said in the Daily Record.

“Raheem Sterling went for £49 million and he was a winger. Luis Suarez went for the money that he went for."He was an international player and after two years he left a world-class player. So this kiddie has the potential in value.

“Celtic won’t have to worry about players going for £10m any more.“The kid still needs time. I think everyone wants to get him in and then sell him off.”Dembele has netted 16 times in 24 appearances this season, with four of those efforts coming in Champions League competition.

Klopp: I wanted to punch myself for not bringing Mane to Dortmund

    kloppmane-cropped_qmm07dnbdcge11fj5palyr9nl.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he wanted to punch himself after turning down the chance to bring Sadio Mane to Borussia Dortmund. The German considered signing Mane, who is now starring for him at Anfield, from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014 before he joined Southampton.

Instead, Klopp ended up sanctioning a £34 million move to acquire the Senegal international at his new club and says he did not hesitate the second time around."With Sadio it was pretty simple because I made the mistake at Dortmund where I didn't take him," Klopp told reporters.

"We talked. I think everyone knows we met each other and by the end I didn't feel this [claps hands together].

"Around about three months later I would have punched myself so I knew already that the next chance I had I would take it. So it was not difficult to take this decision, it was very easy.

"When the club came and when Michael Edwards [Liverpool's new sporting director] said we have an opportunity, no talks were necessary anymore. It was a case of 'let’s do it'."

Mane returns to St Mary's on Saturday as Liverpool visit Southampton looking to extend their 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

"I don't know why I didn't sign him before," Klopp continued. "I like the player, it was more of a feeling.

"At Dortmund we could only get one player for this position, not two or three, so it needed to be exactly the right fit in this moment.

"I've said a lot of times, I'm not a genius and I couldn't exactly imagine where he was in terms of playing in the Austrian league and what does the Austrian league mean for the football [at Dortmund]?

"I have made more mistakes in my life like this but he would have been more expensive if we had taken him to Dortmund and then he had been sold to Liverpool, so all good for Liverpool."The more I think about it, that was my first Liverpool decision. Nice."

:love:Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal: Super sub Giroud saves Arsenal

    16l23v43dzcj2194n2qwaixbbg.jpg

Olivier Giroud was Arsenal's super-sub, popping up with a last-gasp, and largely undeserved, equaliser to snatch a 1-1 draw from Manchester United.

The Gunners turned in a listless performance in this fixture a year ago when expected to win in their attempts to keep pace with Leicester City, Marcus Rashford making a sparkling Premier League debut for a youthful side, and they largely fared little better this time around.

Much more established just nine months on, Rashford replaced the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack for United - captain Wayne Rooney demoted to the bench in a week that has seen him in the headlines for a drunken night on England duty.David de Gea did not have a single save to make before Juan Mata steered the excellent Ander Herrera's cutback home with 20 minutes to play.

Looking to strike first among this weekend's early title protagonists, Arsene Wenger racked up a 12th Premier League game without victory against Jose Mourinho.

Wenger's decision to start a clearly half-fit Alexis Sanchez could also be called into question, given the Frenchman's fears over a "suicidal" decision for him to play for Chile, but his decision to introduce Giroud when chasing the game proved to be inspirational.

Though a point will keep Arsenal behind Liverpool and Chelsea, the fight shown here - in stark contrast to last season's corresponding fixture - suggests a sea change in the Gunners.

After Sanchez headed a gilt-edged early opportunity wide, United had by far the better chances in the first half, with Arsenal playing in a much more reserved manner than usual, clogging up midfield and forcing the hosts wide.

Herrera operated in front of Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick, harrying Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin into mistakes, and United made good ground down Arsenal's left.

From one such raid down the right, Antonio Valencia burst past Nacho Monreal, who could only fell the Ecuadorian with a desperate lunging block, but Andre Marriner waved away appeals, moving Mourinho to a state of convulsing grief on the touchline.

The act stirred a brief surge in United's play and Mata made Petr Cech tip his effort wide before Anthony Martial brought the visiting goalkeeper into two fairly comfortable stops in the space of a minute.

De Gea had gone completely untested in the first half and Arsenal's inability to puncture United's backline continued into the second as quality from either side was at a high premium.Rooney replaced Martial just after the hour, with Rashford shifting to the left, but their right wing was once again the source of success as they took the lead.

Pogba and Herrera drifted to that side of the pitch, with Aaron Ramsey failing to track back, and the Spaniard burst past Monreal before his cutback allowed Mata to run on to the ball and guide it neatly beyond the helpless Cech.

Two of Wenger's substitutes combined to snatch a point, though, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain surging past a tiring Rashford before standing up a cross for Giroud to power home and leave United without a win in three home games on the spin in the league.
