Hummels: Maybe people will understand why I joined Bayern

    3144962_heroa.jpg

Mats Hummels feels Borussia Dortmund supporters will soon understand his move to Bayern Munich.

Hummels sparked considerable anger amongst Dortmund's fanbase on Tuesday, as his summer transfer to Bavaria was confirmed, along with Bayern's capture of Benfica midfielder Renato Sanches.

Hummels began his career at Bayern before departing for Dortmund, initially on loan, in 2008, and has won two Bundesliga titles with the club, as well as reaching the Champions League final in 2012-13.

Having captained the team since 2014 Hummels' move to Bayern came as something of a shock in Dortmund, but he maintains that fans will soon come to understand his reasoning.

"Maybe soon people will understand why I have made this decision," he told reporters after Dortmund's 2-2 draw with FC Koln on Saturday.

Hummels will come up against his future employers in the DFB Cup final next week, but he insists he will give his all to ensure Dortmund come out victorious.

"For as long as I play against them, I want to beat Bayern. I won't spare anyone in the final," he added.

Oblak equals La Liga goalkeeping record

    1639552_heroa.jpg

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak equalled a La Liga record by registering a clean sheet against Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The Slovenian custodian has conceded only 18 goals in the Spanish top flight this term, the lowest amount since Deportivo La Coruna shot-stopper Paco Liano also let in 18 strikes in 1993-94.

Oblak has been ever-present for Atletico this season, starting all 38 of Diego Simeone's side's league encounters.

Despite their fantastic defensive record, the capital club were unable to win the La Liga title, instead finishing third behind runners-up Real Madrid and champions Barcelona.

But Oblak can at least take solace from his excellent achievement, with Liano no longer the sole holder of the record.

Higuain makes Serie A history by breaking 66-year-old goalscoring record

    2949772_heroa.jpg

Gonzalo Higuain has set a new Serie A record by becoming the highest ever goalscorer in a single season.

The Argentina international scored a hat-trick in Napoli’s 4-0 win over Frosinone to reach 36 goals for the season, which puts him one ahead of Gunnar Nordahl’s total which he registered with AC Milan in the 1949-50 campaign.

Higuain comfortably finishes as Serie A’s top goalscorer this season, with Paulo Dybala his nearest challenger with 19 goals for Juventus.

But despite the striker’s record-breaking haul, Napoli still finished nine points behind champions Juventus, who won Serie A for a fifth consecutive season.

But finishing second means Napoli have automatically secured a place in next season’s Champions League, while third-placed Roma will have to reach the group stages via the play-offs.

AC Milan 1-3 Roma: El Shaarawy helps down former club in easy win

    3168582_heroa.jpg

Roma were unable to overhaul second-placed Napoli in Serie A despite a comfortable 3-1 victory over AC Milan.

Napoli's 4-0 win against relegated Frosinone prevented Luciano Spalletti's in-form side from pipping them to the runners-up spot behind champions Juventus, while Milan's defeat could cost them a place in Europe next season.

Having failed to climb above Sassuolo into sixth place, Cristian Brocchi's men must now beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia final next weekend if they are to qualify for the Europa League.

Amidst a subdued atmosphere, the hosts struggled to contain a confident Roma side who finish the season in third spot with a brilliant 17-match unbeaten league run.

Mohamed Salah's first-half goal was his 14th of the Serie A season, while efforts from Stephan El Shaarawy and substitute Emerson Palmieri made the game safe for Roma, rendering Carlos Bacca's late reply nothing more than a consolation.

The defeat extended Milan's winless run at home to five games and has surely done little to enhance interim boss Brocchi's prospects of securing the head coach's position for next season.Roma made a bright start, patiently retaining possession as they probed away at the Milan defence, and came closest to taking an early lead.

An underhit backpass from Alex was seized upon by Salah and the attacker raced through on goal, only to drag his low shot wide.

The Egypt international was not to be denied after 19 minutes, though, with Alex once again the man at fault. The defender played Salah onside, allowing him to latch on to Kevin Strootman's delightful throughball and calmly fire past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The visitors continued to look the more likely as the half wore on, with Miralem Pjanic and Alessandro Florenzi both drawing smart stops from Donnarumma and El Shaarawy squandering a great, close-range opportunity.Milan, meanwhile, rarely threatened before the break, with Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny forced to make just one regulation save from Keisuke Honda.

Honda was involved again as the hosts began the second half with a little more purpose, blazing over the bar from the edge of the box after the Roma defence had failed to clear its lines.

Milan's own defensive vulnerabilities were exposed again, however, when Florenzi was allowed far too much time and space but could only fire tamely at Donnarumma.

El Shaarawy made amends for his first-half miss just before the hour mark, chesting down a pass from Pjanic before finding the bottom corner and then being applauded by the home fans for refusing to celebrate scoring against his former club.

Francesco Totti came within inches of making it three a few moments later, forcing Donnarumma into a superb save with his first touch after being introduced for his now customary cameo off the bench.

Szczesny was then forced into action to keep out a header from the lively Honda, but it was Roma who continued to threaten and it came as no surprise when they made it 3-0.Totti found Salah with a clever backheel, his shot was parried by the overworked Donnarumma and Emerson rattled home the rebound to score his first Roma goal.

Bacca did manage to bundle home from close range late on for Brocchi's side, but it was scant consolation for the Milan fans, many of whom had already headed for the exits by the time the Colombia international bagged his 18th league goal of the season.

Sassuolo 3-1 Inter: Matteo Politano strikes twice to sink weakened Inter side

    3098592_heroa.jpg

Sassuolo secured a sixth-place finish and kept their chances to qualify for next season's Europa League alive with a season-closing 3-1 Serie A victory over 10-man Inter on Saturday.

Eusebio Di Francesco's side have never played European football before but will now be hoping for a Juventus victory over AC Milan in next weekend's Coppa Italia final, which would be enough for them to seal a continental berth.

Milan's defeat to Roma ultimately made Sassuolo's victory irrelevant in the race for sixth, but that result was not known when Matteo Politano's deflected strike put the home side in the box seat after six minutes at Citta del Tricolore.Lorenzo Pellegrini doubled the advantage with another goal against the run of play before Rodrigo Palacio finally got Inter off the mark.

Politano popped up again to restore Sassuolo's lead before the interval and a questionable offside decision against Danilo D'Ambrosio early in the second half indicated it was not Inter's day.

Jeison Murillo's red card for a two bookings in a matter of seconds only strengthened that viewpoint, but Sassuolo will be grateful of the chance to embark on a historic European campaign.

Inter's fourth-place finish was already secure, but Roberto Mancini's side – which contained five changes - applied the initial pressure, Stevan Jovetic flagged offside before slotting beyond goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

However, a lapse in concentration at the other end cost Inter possession in a dangerous area and Politano took full advantage, sending a deflected strike past Juan Pablo Carrizo in the Inter goal.

Politano was mobbed by his team-mates after sending the hosts in front, but Consigli was soon called into action to tip over after a cross bounced goalwards off Francesco Acerbi.

The Sassuolo defence came under pressure as Inter probed for a leveller in the torrential rain, yet the Nerazzurri were hit with another sucker punch when Pellegrini slid in to convert an Alfred Duncan ball across the six-yard box midway through the half – the goal awarded after brief confusion over a potential foul in the build-up.

The scoreline belied Inter's dominance of first-half possession and Consigli had to get down to his right to keep out a Jovetic header, before the Montenegro international saw an effort bounce just over after fortuitously avoiding an offside flag.

Inter's persistence eventually paid off after 31 minutes when Palacio received the ball from Marcelo Brozovic, who had dispossessed the dawdling Francesco Magnanelli, to curl a low strike around Consigli.

But Sassuolo's two-goal cushion was restored six minutes from the break thanks to Politano's powerful header from Marcello Gazzola's delivery.Inter looked to have pulled another goal back within two minutes of the restart, when D'Ambrosio was incorrectly denied by a late flag following Geoffrey Kondogbia's ball into the box.

A clumsy foul by Murillo on Diego Falcinelli, coupled with his angry reaction, earned the Colombian his marching orders just short of the hour, and Mancini's decision to hand teenage Romanian goalkeeper Ionut Radu his debut in the closing stages suggested he felt there was no way back for his side. And Sassuolo held on relatively comfortably to keep their end of the European qualification bargain – over to Juve.

PSG 4-0 Nantes: Ibrahimovic nets double on Parc des Princes send-off

    3168142_heroa.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke the record for goals in a single Ligue 1 season as he bade farewell to Parc des Princes in PSG's 4-0 win over Nantes on Saturday.

PSG's number 10, the club's leading all-time goalscorer, confirmed this week that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and his final home match for the champions proved to be another memorable affair.

Ibrahimovic, given a standing ovation as the stadium clock reached the 10th minute, opened the scoring with a rather unorthodox finish from close range and was thwarted a number of times by goalkeeper Maxime Dupe as he chased the goal which would take him to 38 for a single season - one beyond the Ligue 1 record set by Carlos Bianchi in 1977-78.

It was Lucas Moura who doubled the lead after Ibrahimovic combined with Angel Di Maria, before Marquinhos prodded in a third after PSG's star man had a free-kick saved, but the champions continued to push forward in a bid to give their talisman the best send-off possible.

Just as the record looked to be out of reach, Ibrahimovic struck again, heading in Javier Pastore's cross before being withdrawn amidst a rapturous reception, allowing the champions to begin their title party in earnest.

Parc des Princes was in party mood before kick-off but it was Nantes who started brightest, with Nicolas Douchez - making his first Ligue 1 appearance of the season - saving superbly to deny Leo Dubois' curling low effort.

Ibrahimovic drilled straight at Dupe with his first effort of the game, before the crowd - including owner president Nasser Al-Khelaifi - rose as one to give the Swede a standing ovation as the clock showed 10 minutes.

Douchez was again called into action moments later to claw Emiliano Sala's header away from the top-right corner, but Ibrahimovic soon had the goal he wanted - albeit in unconventional fashion.

After releasing Di Maria down the right, Ibrahimovic raced into the area and met the Argentina international's curling cross with his chest, diverting the ball into the turf, over Dupe and into the net.

Ibrahimovic was twice denied a second by Dupe but he helped PSG to a two-goal half-time lead nonetheless. His drive towards the area allowed Di Maria to turn the ball into Lucas' path, and the winger made no mistake, sweeping into the bottom corner.

Dupe swatted aside another Ibrahimovic effort just after the break but PSG soon had their third. Ibrahimovic's fierce free-kick from 20 yards was parried upwards by Dupe, and Marquinhos reacted quickest to prod home unchallenged. With the result all-but secured, PSG appeared set on ensuring one last record for Ibrahimovic, though he dragged a promising opening wide after Lucas had fed his run through the middle.

Di Maria had tormented Nantes for the majority of the match and another pinpoint delivery saw Dupe forced into action again to tip substitute Blaise Matuidi's lofted effort over, before Edinson Cavani was denied from close range.

Ibrahimovic saw another free-kick parried and a low strike clawed away from the bottom-left corner, but his moment finally arrived when, in the 89th minute, he powered in an unstoppable header from Pastore's cross before walking off the pitch with his children to one last deafening ovation prior to the final whistle.

:cool:Ibrahimovic sets new goal record in his final league game for Paris Saint-Germain

    3168142_heroa.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set a new record in his final Ligue 1 match by becoming Paris Saint-Germain's highest ever goalscorer in a single season.

The Sweden international scored twice in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Nantes to end the Ligue 1 season on 38 goals, surpassing the 37 goals Carlos Bianchi registered with PSG in the 1977-78 campaign.

Earlier this week Ibrahimovic confirmed that he will be leaving the French champions when his contract expires this summer but has yet to announce his next club.

PSG also confirmed that the 34-year-old will return to the club as a coach.

After his goal on Saturday, Ibrahimovic left the pitch to a standing ovation before the final whistle, even though Laurent Blanc had made all three substitutions.

Di Maria sets new Ligue 1 record with 18 assists

    2653352_heroa.jpg

Angel Di Maria has set a new record in Ligue 1 after ending the season with 18 assists.

The Argentine set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lucas Moura in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-0 victory over Nantes on Saturday evening.

The previous record of 17 assists was set by Marvin Martin during FC Sochaux’s 2010-11 campaign.
After just one season in the Premier League with Manchester United, Di Maria joined PSG in a £44 million deal in August.

The 28-year-old has already won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de la Ligue, while he could make it a domestic clean sweep if PSG beat Marseille in the Coupe de France final later this month.

Pique: We had to win La Liga twice!

    gerard-pique-rafinha-cropped_16sfx9gvtpx11vmdtaeh2e57m.jpg

Gerard Pique says Barcelona feel as though they have won La Liga twice this season after they recovered from a bad run to clinch the title on Sunday.

A Luis Suarez hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win over Granada to secure Barca's sixth domestic crown in eight seasons, with Real Madrid finishing a point behind after their 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Barca suffered three straight defeats in April to surrender a nine-point lead at the top, before winning their final five matches in emphatic style, scoring 24 goals and conceding none.

And Pique, who describes the club's domestic success since 2009 as "unique", admits it felt like they had won and lost the title before they were able finally to lift the trophy."I'm happy that we keep winning the league. We're living a unique period. Nobody has won six leagues out of eight," he said, as quoted by AS.

"Given the circumstances, we have had to win it twice. When we had eight points in our favour, we had it won. Afterwards, with the blip, we lost it, although it still depended on us. And now we've come back to win it."

Pique, who has now won six Liga titles, believes the current generation has established the ultimate winning mentality after a period of pessimism at Camp Nou.

"This league, 20 years ago we wouldn't have won it because we were so often undone by our own pessimism," continued the defender."But this generation has changed things. We're a winning team, we've shown that we can be trusted, because we ended up winning."

Barca can clinch a second successive domestic double with a win in the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla next week, but Pique insists a failure to triumph at the Vicente Calderon would not detract from their season.

"We don't need anything," he said. "Of course it would be better if we won the Copa. Sevilla can beat you in a game, but I think our consistency is magnificent."

Suarez thanks team-mates for Pichichi award

    luis-suarez_5gpd0oja8vkr1mh541ln14hg5.jpg

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez paid tribute to his team-mates after scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Granada on Saturday that saw his side retain the La Liga title.

Suarez claimed the Pichichi - La Liga's top goalscorer award - as a result of his latest treble, which took him to 40 league goals for the season, five clear of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It's a unique moment to enjoy," he said. "I'm happy with everything.
"For the title, the goals, the happiness we've given to the fans."Suarez added that he wanted to give thanks to all his team-mates for helping him score 53 times in all competitions this season.

"Thanks to everyone because without them I couldn't have done it," Suarez said. "Without them, I wouldn't be in this situation."I only had to nudge the ball. They looked for me and I'm grateful for it, thanks to everyone once again."

Suarez and Barcelona now look ahead to next weekend's Copa Del Rey final against cup specialists Sevilla as they seek to win the double, but not without some La Liga celebrations first."Now we have to think about the cup, but today it's time to enjoy La Liga," the Uruguay international said.

"It's a competition we've worked for very hard over the year and in the end, we've got our reward."

Ibrahimovic: I already know my next club

    3168932_heroa.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims he already knows his next club but has refused to reveal their identity.

The 34-year-old confirmed earlier this week that he will leave PSG at the end of his contract this summer, although the French champions have announced that he will eventually return to the club as a coach.

The Sweden international has been heavily linked with moves to Manchester United, LA Galaxy and AC Milan.

"I know where I will be going next season, but I will not be saying where tonight!" the striker told beIN Sports.

Ibrahimovic bowed out in style on Saturday evening, scoring twice in PSG’s 4-0 win over Nantes to break Carlos Bianchi’s record.
The striker, who ends the Ligue 1 season with 38 goals, is now PSG’s highest scorer in a single league season.

“This is a fantastic group, it is even the best group I've played. I will miss this team,” he said.

“We knew what we wanted on the first day of the project and we are proud of what we achieved.
“I hope they will continue [to be successful] because the project is huge. I'm not worried.

“I never cry usually, but when I saw enter my children, I had tears in my eyes.

“I am very grateful to the French people. I had to give them the best of myself.”

Galliani: Ibrahimovic too expensive for Serie A

    zlatan-ibrahimovic-cropped_r96dtny5x9frz295292js7rx.jpg

AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be too expensive to return to Serie A, but will not rule out a possible deal.

Sweden international Ibrahimovic will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season when his contract expires and reports have seen him linked with a move back to San Siro, as well as possible switches to the United States or the Premier League.

Galliani accepts that any attempt to sign Ibrahimovic - who set a new record of 38 goals in a single Ligue 1 season after scoring twice in PSG's final league game against Nantes on Saturday - will be hampered by his wage demands.

But 71-year-old Galliani, who has been put under pressure by frustrated Milan fan groups in recent weeks, stopped short of ruling out Ibrahimovic's return.

"Ibra has wages that are incompatible with the Italian market, but we'll see," he told Mediaset Premium."He is still very fond of Milan, but I more or less know that he has some offers from from Asia, America and Europe. We'll see, we'll see."

Galliani went on to stress that talks will be held with Liverpool over the future of Mario Balotelli. The 25-year-old returned to San Siro on loan for the season but has scored just once in Serie A action during a campaign which has been blighted by injuries and poor form.

"At the moment, Balotelli is on a straight loan," he said. "We'll have the chance to talk about it with Liverpool and, once the season is over, we'll see what needs to be done. "During the summer there will be plenty of chances to talk with Liverpool."

Van der Wiel to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer

    3169732_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Gregory van der Wiel will leave the club this summer.

The 28-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has struggled to secure a regular role under Laurent Blanc, with Serge Aurier preferred at right-back.

The Netherlands international played his final Ligue 1 game for PSG on Saturday evening as the French champions ran out 4-0 winners over Nantes.

Juventus, West Ham and Monaco have all been been linked with a move for Van der Wiel.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic also played his final Ligue 1 game for PSG and his double ensured he ended the campaign with 38 league goals - one ahead of Carlos Bianchi’s record set in the 1977-78 campaign.

:yes:Manchester United future is bright, insists Rooney

    wayne-rooney-marcus-rashford-cropped_xgvlzjn3v4fj1sstxbaf4aiul.jpg

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney insists the club has a bright future regardless of the way their season ends.

Louis van Gaal's side head into their final Premier League game with AFC Bournemouth with a two-point deficit to bitter rivals Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Sunday's match begins a crucial week for United, who will look to end a trophy drought stretching back to 2013 when they face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final next Saturday. However, Rooney insists that the club will only get better, given the ability of the young players who have flourished under Van Gaal.

"It's always exciting working with young players," Rooney told United Review. "People forget how young (20-year-old) Anthony Martial is."The club bought him so he hasn't come through the academy, but he's still only a really young lad.

"He's still learning, improving and the same goes with the likes of Memphis Depay, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, so it's an exciting time for the club."Hopefully they keep improving as players and it'll be a really bright future for Manchester United."

Rashford has enjoyed a remarkable rise at Old Trafford this season, having scored seven goals in 16 appearances since making his debut in February, and Rooney says allowing the 18-year-old to enjoy his football is the best way to encourage his development further."I think at the minute he's a young lad and he doesn't need that much advice from me," said the England captain. "Just let him play and enjoy his football.

"I'm sure there'll be a time when he does need it from myself, from the manager, from [assistant manager Ryan] Giggs and from other players. But I think the most important thing for him and the team is to just let him go and play and enjoy it."
