Barcelona unveil Coutinho at Camp Nou

    47DC10A300000578-5244245-image-a-150_1515352531456.jpg

Philippe Coutinho has been presented as a Barcelona player for the first time.
The Catalan giants have agreed a deal reportedly worth up to £142 million with Liverpool to bring the Brazilian playmaker to Camp Nou, after a series of bids failed in August.Coutinho will be formally unveiled on Monday, with a photo shoot on the Camp Nou pitch to be followed by a press conference.

But Barca offered a glimpse of Coutinho in Barcelona colours in a video posted to the club's official Twitter account after Sunday's home win against Levante.

Coutinho is shown walking out on stage and posing for the cameras, waving to the photographers and offering a double thumbs-up for the flashbulbs. The 25-year-old then sent a message to his new club's fans ahead of Monday's formalities.

"Hi Barcelona fans, I'm already here," Coutinho said. "It's a dream come true and I hope to see you tomorrow."Without Coutinho, Barca beat Levante 3-0 to stretch their cushion at the top of the La Liga table to nine points, with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Paulinho on the scoresheet.

"He has arrived at the club he always wanted to be at," said Barca forward Luis Suarez, Coutinho's former Liverpool team-mate. "I am delighted because I have a great relationship with Philippe. We have to make him feel at home because sometimes it is very tough to change clubs."Everyone knows the talent he has — he has been in brilliant form over the last few years. He is a professional, 200 per cent, and has proven his worth as a player."

Nottingham Forest 4 Arsenal 2: Wenger suffers first third-round exit

    47DB5BF400000578-5243903-image-a-30_1515343503067.jpg

Arsene Wenger lost an FA Cup third-round tie for the first time as holders Arsenal were stunned 4-2 by Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Wenger has lifted the famous trophy on seven occasions – including three of the last four years – but saw his much-changed side undone by two Eric Lichaj goals along with penalties from Ben Brereton and Kieran Dowell in a classic cup tie at the City Ground.

The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette were all rested as Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck were afforded rare starts in an unfamiliar Arsenal XI.

But Wenger's plan backfired against a Forest side who are still without a permanent manager following the sacking of Mark Warburton last month.Lichaj's headed opener was swiftly cancelled out by Per Mertesacker but the American restored the hosts' advantage with a stunning volley just before half-time.

Forest had a cushion when 18-year-old Brereton showed composure beyond his years to beat David Ospina from the spot following a Rob Holding foul on Matty Cash, but a late Welbeck strike threatened to make it a tense last 10 minutes for the home side.

However, Gary Brazil's men were awarded a second penalty when Mathieu Debuchy brought down Armand Traore from behind, allowing Dowell to convert from the spot, and Joe Worrall's red card mattered little as Forest held on for a famous win.The result represents Arsenal's first third-round defeat since they lost in a replay to Sheffield United eight months prior to Wenger's appointment in 1996.

Wenger's decision to make nine changes appeared ill-judged when Lichaj ghosted into the six-yard box beyond a napping visiting defence to power home a header from Dowell's free-kick after 20 minutes.

But Wenger – serving the first match of a touchline ban following his treatment of referee Mike Dean after last weekend's 1-1 draw with West Brom – had something to celebrate in the stands three minutes later when his side levelled.Reiss Nelson was awarded a soft free-kick on the left side of the penalty area and, after Holding headed Walcott's delivery onto the left-hand post, Mertesacker was on hand to prod home with the outside of his left boot.

Ospina had touched wide a Cash chance prior to the opener and was forced into two one-handed diving saves by the excellent Brereton before Lichaj produced a moment of magic that left the Colombian helpless.Lichaj controlled Holding's clearing header on his chest on the edge of the box a minute before half-time and lifted a sublime volley beyond Ospina into the top-right corner.

Arsenal offered little by way of a response early in the second half and Holding made a vital interception to prevent Brereton getting on the end of a dangerous Tyler Walker cross. But the teenage frontman netted the goal his performance merited in the 64th minute, with Holding rightly penalised by referee Jon Moss.

The previously ineffective Welbeck made the most of a Jordan Smith mistake to side-foot home as Arsenal set up a tense finish, but Debuchy's foul on former Gunner Traore led to the Dowell penalty that wrapped up the win. Dowell slipped as he struck the ball, but suspicions of a double touch were eventually dismissed by the officials to ratify Forest's two-goal advantage.

And, while Worrall was sent off for a tackle on Chuba Akpom and Walcott came close to pulling another one back, a poor Arsenal were beaten by the better team on the day in a result that will be an unwelcome addition to Wenger's record.

Marcelo: 'Sad' Real Madrid are 'f***ing sunk'

Marcelo admitted Real Madrid are sad and feeling low after falling 16 points behind runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona.Defending champions Madrid and their stuttering season continued on Sunday, held to a 2-2 draw by hosts Celta Vigo.Gareth Bale scored twice to cancel out Daniel Wass' opener and give Madrid the lead before half-time.

But it was not good enough for Madrid as Celta equalised in the 82nd minute via Maxi Gomez after Iago Aspas had his penalty saved 10 minutes earlier."We're sad and we're f****** sunk," Marcelo said afterwards."We're trying to get out of this mess and we're working to do that, but we don't like this at all.

"It's difficult because the more matches you draw or lose, the more the pressure increases. We can't do anything else."We do what we can, we try to play good football, score goals and circulate the ball, but it's not happening for us."

Madrid, who are winless in their past four away matches in LaLiga, are fourth in the league, behind second-placed Atletico Madrid and Valencia. "There's no choice but to show your best face and fight," the Brazilian continued. "Fight and give your best so you can win."

Zidane doesn't want new signings despite Madrid struggles

Zinedine Zidane insisted he is not interested in making any signings during the January transfer window as he accepted responsibility for Real Madrid's apparently hopeless La Liga title defence.

Stuttering Spanish champions Madrid slipped 16 points adrift behind runaway leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona following Sunday's 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo.Retaining their crown is all but out of reach for Madrid, who have been linked with Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Chelsea duo Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, Tottenham star Harry Kane and others.

Asked if Madrid need reinforcements, Los Blancos coach Zidane replied: "No, at the moment I do not want anyone."Until the 31st [of January] we will see, but not at the moment, why? Because I am happy with my squad."

Gareth Bale provided a timely reminder of what he is capable of after scoring twice in as many minutes to cancel out Daniel Wass' opener for Celta. However, the hosts earned a share of the spoils at Balaidos thanks to Maxi Gomez's goal with eight minutes remaining after Keylor Navas saved Iago Aspas' penalty 10 minutes earlier.

The draw was Madrid's third consecutive LaLiga stalemate away from home – extending their winless run on the road to four matches."I have to detect the problem because I am responsible," said Zidane. "And I'll try and we will try.

"Lately we are not playing regularly. We do not play as we should. We have to have more confidence in our possibilities. Maybe we do not have enough confidence to play 90 minutes well."The Frenchman added: "We're not going to talk about the league every weekend, if we lose points we cannot be successful. You have to go match by match and win them."

Madrid president Florentino Perez made his way down to the dressing room post-match, but Zinedine said: "He has gone to the dressing room to cheer on the team, nothing more."

Zidane: I know I won't be at Madrid for 10 years

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane feels his achievements as a player give him no protection at the La Liga giants, insisting he would not be at the club for 10 years.

Zidane, who has guided Madrid to two Champions League titles and a LaLiga crown, is under some pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu.Madrid have fallen 16 points behind leaders and rivals Barcelona after winning nine of 17 league games.

Zidane, who has been in charge since January 2016, said he understood he would have limited time at the helm of Madrid."Zinedine Zidane isn't a player at Real Madrid anymore. That Zidane no longer exists," he told France Football.

"Now it's down to Zinedine Zidane the coach to carve out a career. I'm not protected by what I've done as a player at this club."I know that one day it [the coach's job] will come to an end at Real Madrid, so I make the most of it and I do everything I can to be successful.

"I say to myself, 'if I've got 10 days left here, then I'm going to live those 10 days to the max; if it's six months, I'll live those six months to the max'. I don't think beyond that."I know I won't stay [in the job] for 10 years."

Madrid are yet to hit top form in La Liga, failing to win three of their past four league games to be fourth in the table. But Zidane, who won La Liga and the Champions League as a player with Madrid, said his ability to ignore any outside pressure was crucial.

"External pressure doesn't affect me. I've wrapped a shield around myself; nothing can bother me," he said."I have many responsibilities [as Real Madrid coach]. But when I get home, I switch off. I know that many coaches aren't able to take their minds off the job, but I do have that ability.

"I go home and I get together with my wife or with my sons and I go to see a show or to have dinner. I cut myself off [from work], because that's fundamental."

I will always cherish Liverpool - Coutinho issues emotional farewell message

Barcelona's record signing Philippe Coutinho posted an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters after wrapping up his dream move to Camp Nou on Monday. The Catalan giants announced the impending signing of Coutinho on Saturday and the Brazilian underwent his medical and officially signed his contract two days later.

Coutinho's Barca debut will be delayed by a minor thigh injury, the 25-year-old having reportedly paid £10million of his own money to help push through the protracted transfer.

And having confirmed his switch to the LaLiga leaders, Coutinho wrote a lengthy goodbye to Liverpool, thanking the club's fans, staff and manager Jurgen Klopp, via his official Instagram account."Since the moment I arrived in Liverpool, me and my family have been made to feel so welcome and have made so many friends," Coutinho began.

"On the pitch and off the pitch, we have experienced the beauty of this club and its fans. In turn, I hope I have delivered memories and moments that have brought happiness to the Liverpool supporters."Moving to Liverpool, I knew the club's greatness and history but what I did learn during my time was the unique heart and soul of the place. It has its own personality and character."

Coutinho scored 41 Premier League goals during his time at Anfield but the midfielder stressed he could not turn down the chance to move to Barcelona. "I leave Liverpool because Barcelona is a dream for me," Coutinho continued. "Liverpool was a dream that I was fortunate enough to realise and I have given five years of my life to it.

"A career on the pitch only lasts for so long and to play for Barcelona as well as Liverpool is something I want to experience and enjoy while I am blessed enough to be able to do so."I hope the supporters understand that choosing to experience something new is not about diminishing their importance to me or the club's importance. Nothing will ever diminish that in my heart.

"I wish Jurgen and the team nothing but joy and success for the rest of this season and beyond. This is an amazing team and they are getting better and better all the time.

"There are too many people I want to thank, but I cannot name everyone individually. To all the amazing club staff who have been part of my life in Liverpool - I will miss you. To the owners, whom have tried so hard to bring success, and to the football recruitment staff for showing faith in me to bring me here and rewarding me during that journey, and to my incredible team-mates, past and present, who have helped me grow and improve as a player and a person, I would like to say thank you to you all. Anything I have achieved here would not have been possible without you.

"And finally, to the most important people of Liverpool - the Liverpool supporters. I can never thank you enough for what you have given me during this time and no matter where I go in the world, for the rest of my life, I will always cherish Liverpool in my heart. You, the club and the city will always be a part of me."You'll Never Walk Alone. Philippe."

Liverpool target Lemar could move in January - Monaco boss Jardim

Monaco head coach Leonardo Jardim accepts he may be unable to keep Thomas Lemar at the club during the January transfer window.Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev and Jardim have previously been clear that Lemar and other Monaco stars including Fabinho will not be allowed to leave mid-season.

Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy departed last season's Ligue 1 champions, who sit second in the table, nine points behind Mbappe's new side Paris Saint-Germain.

Lemar reportedly was close to joining Arsenal on deadline day only for the move to fall through, scuppering Alexis Sanchez's planned switch to Manchester City in the process.

The versatile France international has also been linked with Liverpool, who are seeking replacements for key midfielder Philippe Coutinho after he sealed a dream move to Barcelona.

Jardim stressed again that Monaco do not typically sell players in the January transfer window, but the coach understands a large bid for Lemar would give his side a decision to make."We are not used to selling in the winter," Jardim told reporters on Monday."But the transfer window lasts until the end of the month and many things can happen."

Jardim suggested fringe players could be allowed to follow Terence Kongolo and Soualiho Meite by leaving Monaco on loan.

"Maybe a few who play little will be able to find time for play," Jardim added.
Lemar has been included in Monaco's squad for Tuesday's Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final at Nice, but striker Radamel Falcao is out with a calf injury.

Coutinho signing might have won La Liga for Barcelona - Simeone

Diego Simeone believes Barcelona have taken "a very important step" towards the La Liga title with the signing of Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazil star completed his transfer to the Catalans on Monday for a reported fee of €160 million, a record outlay for the club and the biggest fee ever paid by a team from Spain. With Barca unbeaten after 18 league games and already nine points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of the table, Simeone fears Coutinho's arrival could prove to be a decisive blow in the title race.

"It's healthy and important that someone has the chance to sign players like Coutinho, although he can't play in the Champions League. It makes La Liga much stronger," the Atletico boss told a news conference."With the gap that Barcelona have, it's a very important step."

Atletico face Lleida in the second leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie on Tuesday, having claimed a 4-0 win in the first game last week.Antoine Griezmann, Diego Godin, Jan Oblak, Koke, Sime Vrsaljko, Saul Niguez, Jose Gimenez and Thomas Partey have all been left out of the squad after playing in the first-leg win.

With a number of players being rested, Simeone plans to give Vitolo his debut, while Diego Costa is likely to feature as he is suspended for Saturday's LaLiga trip to Eibar.

"Vitolo only just arrived and he has to get used to the team's need for his talent to help us. He is working enthusiastically, he's ready and he'll start the game," said Simeone.

"The idea is that he [Costa] can't be there against Eibar, so he'll have minutes.
"The arrival of big, important players, like those who have come in the January market, help the team and the players notice that. Obviously the team improves and the people outside the club can see that."

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah named PFA Fans’ Player of the Month

Mohamed Salah has won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for December. The 25-year-old saw off competition from former teammate Philipe Coutinho, Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Manchester City duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Nicolas Otamendi to clinch the monthly award for the second consecutive time after he earned 50 percent of the public vote in the poll.

The former Chelsea and Roma forward played a sterling role in front of goal as Jurgen Klopp’s men maintained an unbeaten run of seven games in the English top-flight during the busy festive period.

Salah who played in all of the Reds’ league games last month notched five goals with three assists to his name.
The Egypt international who has garnered 17 efforts in 21 league matches this campaign is yet to feature for the Anfield Stadium outfit this year owing to a groin injury he picked up against Burnley on December 31. The 2017 African Player of the Year has also been nominated for the Premier League of the Month for December.

Man Utd sign highly rated teenager Traore to first professional contract

Manchester United have announced that teenage midfielder Aliou Traore has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Traore only joined Man Utd in December, arriving from Paris Saint-Germain amid concerns of a lack of first-team opportunities with the Ligue 1 leaders.Having only just turned 17, Traore has been tipped for big things and has been compared to his countryman Paul Pogba.

“Aliou is a tremendously gifted young player and we are all delighted to see him sign his first professional contract at Manchester United," academy head Nicky Butt told ManUtd.com.“Aliou will naturally need time to adapt, but he has an exciting future ahead of him and we are all looking forward to seeing his performances for the Under-18s in the second half of this season.”

"Traore is a boy we've been looking at for a while," Man Utd Under-18s coach Kieran McKenna told MUTV last month after Traore's arrival at the club. "He is a really powerful midfielder who likes to run box to box. He is very strong technically and is improving all the time."

'Liverpool need to start shopping at Harrods' – Klopp tipped to leave without more spending

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could depart the club should they not spend more, according to a former Reds executive.Christian Purslow, who was managing director at Anfield from 2009 to 2010, feels Liverpool are in danger of falling behind the Premier League's biggest spenders.

Despite shelling out a record fee to land former Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk at the start of the transfer window, the perception was arguably bolstered over the weekend when Liverpool confirmed the sale of star midfielder Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £146 million.

Liverpool now have a massive sum to reinvest in the squad, part of which may have already been earmarked for the fee paid for Van Dijk, and Purslow feels the club must spend wisely and more often to prevent Klopp from seeking out a new challenge.

"It is not a Big Six — it is a three and a three," Purslow told Sky Sports. "It feels to me like [Manchester] City, [Manchester] United and Chelsea are breaking away from Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham for pure economic reasons."United ... you are talking Paul Pogba, the most desired footballer on the planet went there last summer.

"The most productive centre-forward in the Premier League, Romelu Lukaku, went there last summer. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, probably the most admired creative midfield player in Germany, went there."They [United] are shopping at Harrods. Liverpool need to start shopping at Harrods rather than just selling the good ones.

"And I really believe Jurgen Klopp is absolutely A-list, he is the next manager for one of those bigger clubs if Liverpool do not fulfill his ambitions."

Arsenal, Chelsea & Man Utd-linked Bailey reveals Premier League dream

Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey has revealed that it is his dream to play in the Premier League and suggested that he has the ideal club in mind.

The Jamaican stopped short at revealing who that particular club is, though, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United having been linked with moves.

Bailey joined Leverkusen from Genk in January 2017 and has made 14 appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season, scoring an impressive six goals.

That has helped move his side into Champions League qualification contention, with Leverkusen currently fourth in the table, but Bailey admits that he would like to make the switch to England one day."Of course I have a dream club, but I will not tell. Basically England was and still is my dream," he told Bild.

"And if I keep working hard, I'm sure it will work someday."The change to Bayer was just the right step for my development. I am happy here."And we have every chance to get into the Champions League. Europe is our big goal."

Manchester City 2 Bristol City 1: Late Aguero header earns EFL Cup semi-final advantage

    47F5136500000578-5251619-image-a-137_1515534528411.jpg

Sergio Aguero scored a stoppage-time winner as Manchester City beat Bristol City 2-1 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday.Pre-match talk had focused on the quadruple chances of Pep Guardiola's men, but they had to come from behind at the Etihad Stadium despite the Catalan naming a strong side, Aguero coming off the bench to settle it.

Bristol City – who dumped Manchester United out in the last round – refused to be cowed and Lee Johnson's high-flying Championship team matched the runaway Premier League leaders in an enthralling first half, with the visitors going into the interval ahead courtesy of Bobby Reid's penalty.

Manchester City's centre-back pairing were both at fault, Eliaquim Mangala losing possession and John Stones mistiming a tackle in the box on Reid, who picked himself up to convert from the spot.

After a lax first period the hosts were much brighter and got back on terms 10 minutes into the second half, Kevin De Bruyne beating Frank Fielding with a powerful shot after playing a one-two with Raheem Sterling.

Fielding made a string of saves to keep the sides level but the goalkeeper could not stop Aguero flicking home Bernardo Silva's cross in injury time to give his side a slender advantage, although the Robins will take heart from their display ahead of hosting the second leg in two weeks' time.

City unsurprisingly began on the front foot as Ilkay Gundogan hit an effort wide and Bernardo Silva's deflected shot looped over, but Bristol City did not look overawed.

Johnson's men called Claudio Bravo into action for the first time after 15 minutes, Joe Bryan firing at goal after a driving run but finding the goalkeeper equal to his strike.Fielding blocked Leroy Sane's cross and then had to tip over a whipped De Bruyne curler as the underdogs gave the ball away deep in their own half.
Marlon Pack rifled a drive at Bravo after 32 minutes as the visitors continued to pose a threat.

And after Bailey Wright was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty when he appeared to drag down Stones, the second-tier side won a spot-kick of their own.
