:)Perisic offers Man Utd hope by airing Premier League ambition

Ivan Perisic has left the transfer door ajar for Manchester United, with the Inter winger admitting that he would welcome the opportunity to play in the Premier League. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Croatia international for some time, with Jose Mourinho first pursuing his signature in the summer of 2017.

On the back of an impressive showing at the 2018 World Cup, which saw him net in a final defeat to France, Persic is back on the radar of those at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old is tied to a long-term contract in Italy and claims to be happy at San Siro, but has also conceded that he would be willing to join another “top club” if a deal suits all concerned.Perisic told Sportske novosti when quizzed on his future plans: “Last year I signed new five-year deal with Inter, I enjoy great status at the club.

“It is true Inter has not had the results it should have since 2010, there were some problems, bad decisions, but somehow I feel we are on the right way to return to old glory. “I heard some clubs want me but they have to talk to my club and only after that could I join the negotiations and decide.

“If I was to change club, it could only be to a top league and top club.“Only God knows what will happen in future, I am happy at Inter but we all know anything is possible in football.”

Perisic has already been on the books of sides in Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and Serie A and admits that new challenges in the Premier League or La Liga would appeal.

He added: “Honestly, I would like to test myself in all of the biggest leagues but the question is will I have the time, I am 29 and working to extend my career as long as I can. “Yes, I'd like to play in England and Spain but I don't know if there is enough time left.”

While United have led the chase for his services in recent windows, a return to Germany has also been mooted for the former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg star.

Bayern Munich are said to be keen, with Perisic’s fellow Croat, Niko Kovac, now in charge of the Bundesliga champions.Asked about his relationship with Kovac and the possibility of heading to the Allianz Arena, Perisic said: “He had very big influence on me, I played great for Croatia under him and I congratulate him on everything he has done in Germany and signing for Bayern.

“Me? If they want me, they know where to find me!”

:baffled:Mina left without suitors as Manchester United deal collapses

Yerry Mina has been left without a Barcelona exit route after a transfer to Manchester United has collapsed with the Red Devils nearing a move for Toby Alderweireld.

The Colombia international has been in the market for a move away from the La Liga champions all summer after a disappointing time at the club following his midseason arrival.Mina failed to break into Ernesto Valverde’s plans, playing just five times in the league after his January move from Palmeiras.

Despite a strong World Cup performance that saw him score three goals in Russia, the defender has been pushed further down the Barca depth chart with the arrival of Clement Lenglet.

A move to Everton had long been thought to be in the cards, but Mina had emerged as a target for Manchester United in recent days as the Red Devils looked for an alternative after Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Alderweireld appeared too expensive. However, Goal understands Manchester United have moved closer toward landing Alderweireld, and have moved on from their efforts to sign Mina.

While that would appear to clear the way for Mina to move to Everton, it is also understood that the Toffees have pulled their offer for the defender.Everton have been frustrated over the way negotiations have been carried out, believing they have been used in the process.

With the two Premier League clubs having rescinded their offers, it leaves Mina with no suitors at the current time.A move to England would have to materialise in the next few days, as the Premier League window closes August 9.

However, that would not necessarily end the chances for Mina to find a new home as most other leagues have a later transfer deadline, with a move still possible elsewhere until August 31.

Real Madrid 3 Juventus 1: Bale stunner sparks confident comeback

    4ED66A7900000578-6027369-image-a-66_1533428383370.jpg

Real Madrid demonstrated their potential to enjoy life after Cristiano Ronaldo by thumping his new team Juventus 3-1 in the International Champions Cup on Saturday.

Ronaldo brought a glittering nine-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu to a close when he sealed a big-money transfer to the Serie A title-holders in July. The 33-year-old was not involved in the pre-season exhibition match at FedEx Field, as he recovers from his exertions with Portugal at the World Cup.

While they are still adjusting to the concept of being without the imperious five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Madrid capitalised on his absence from the Bianconeri line-up by brushing aside Massimiliano Allegri's men in the United States.A Dani Carvajal own-goal had given La Signora the lead, but Gareth Bale's blistering equaliser saw the teams go in level at the break.

And the Liga giants ran rampant in the second half, Brazilian teenager Vinicius Junior impressing off the bench as fellow substitute Marco Asensio struck twice to seal a comfortable win.

The next opportunity for Julen Lopetegui's team to impress will also come against Italian opposition, with a clash against Roma set to take place in New Jersey on Wednesday.

Despite naming a strong starting XI featuring Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema, Madrid fell behind in the 12th minute when Carvajal turned Joao Cancelo's cross from the left past the outstretched Keylor Navas and into his own net.Lopetegui's side responded well to going behind by controlling possession, but they were restricted to a Bale effort from range in the 24th minute.

Five minutes later, Isco cut inside from left and fired a warning shot wide of Wojciech Szczesny's near post. The pressure continued to mount, and it told in the 39th minute, Bale picking up a loose ball outside the Juventus area, taking a touch and then firing an eye-catching strike into the back of the net.

Los Blancos came close to taking the lead with three minutes remaining in the half, young left-back Sergio Reguilon blasting a fierce drive across Szczesny and narrowly wide following a rapid Madrid counter-attack.Both coaches made changes at half-time, and the new arrivals were quickly involved in the action, albeit in contrasting fashion.

Nicolo Fagioli, on for Sami Khedira, gave the ball away inside the Juve half and two Madrid substitutes pounced. Asensio released Vinicius Junior down the left and the Brazilian teenager teed up his team-mate with a clever square ball, Asesnio firing past Szczesny at close range to earn Madrid the lead.

The rampant Vinicius Junior continued to torment Juve and Madrid duly made it 3-1 in the 56th minute, Asensio holding off Claudio Marchisio and sliding a finish beneath Szczesny, who should have done better. The Spanish giants could have netted their fourth following another lightning break just before the hour mark, Mattia De Sciglio managing to snuff out the danger after Vinicius Junior took a touch when he should have shot.

And while they were unable to add to the scoreline, Madrid continued to dominate throughout the closing exchanges, in a performance that will afford them plenty of confidence ahead of the new season.

AC Milan 1 Barcelona 0: Andre Silva snatches last-gasp win

    mZcFoE8.jpg

Andre Silva's dramatic goal with almost the last kick of the game secured a 1-0 victory for AC Milan over an unfamiliar Barcelona side in the International Champions Cup on Sunday.

Barca were missing Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Ousmane Dembele, Jordi Alba, Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutino, as the majority of the club's first-team stars were afforded an additional period of recovery following their appearance in the World Cup, while new signing Arturo Vidal is yet to link up with the squad. In their absence, head coach Ernesto Valverde started Brazilian newcomers Arthur and Malcom against the Rossoneri in Santa Clara, where the Blaugrana dominated proceedings without reward in the first half.

The contest at Levi's Stadium appeared destined for a penalty shootout, but Andre Silva had other ideas, the Portuguese forward beating Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the substitute goalkeeper's near post to win it in the 92nd minute after being found in space by Franck Kessie. The goal came against the run of play in California, but the result will nevertheless encourage Gennaro Gattuso's men ahead of the new Serie A campaign.

Barca meanwhile will hope to welcome back some of their more established stars when they take on Sevilla in the Supercopa de Espana. The reigning Liga champions had threatened inside the first minute, Paco Alcacer forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma to concede a corner by making a smart save low down to his right.

Alessio Romagnoli had to be alert 10 minutes later, the defender breaking up a promising exchange of passes between Arthur and Malcom.Milan's first clear chance fell to Fabio Borini, who saw his shot from the centre of the penalty area blocked by Marlon, prompting half-hearted appeals for handball against the defender.

It was Barca, though, who continued to create the bulk of the opportunities, Malcom narrowly failing to get on the end of a well-judged forward pass from Rafinha in the 19th minute. And on the half-hour mark, Ricardo Rodriguez had to make a timely sliding tackle to prevent Nelson Semedo getting a shot away from a tight angle down the right side of the box.

With nine minutes remaining in the half, Arthur unleashed a fierce drive from outside the area, a diving Donnarumma proving equal to the task of keeping it out.The onslaught continued as the half-time whistle approached, Malcom hitting the post and Munir El Haddadi whistling an effort from range narrowly wide, with Donnarumma seemingly beaten on both occasions.

As expected, both coaches made several changes during the second half.
Ter Stegen, on for Jasper Cillessen in the Barca goal, had to be alert to deny Hakan Calhanoglu in the 47th minute. That chance came on the break after Barca had penalty appeals for an apparent stamp by Rodriguez on Rafinha ignored by referee Baldomero Toledo.

Andre Silva, wasted one of the few good chances to arrive in a scrappy second half when he fired into the side-netting after good work from Calhanoglu in the 67th minute.Ricard Puig should have won it in the 90th minute, the Barca substitute dragging a shot wide after being found unmarked by Semedo's cutback.

Instead it was Milan who snatched the victory, Calhanoglu and Kessie showing considerable composure to carve out the opening for Andre Silva on the break, and the former Porto attacker made no mistake from close range.

Spalletti dreaming of Modric deal as Inter pursue Real Madrid star

Links to Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric have Inter boss Luciano Spalletti “dreaming with the fans” when it comes to a possible deal.

On the back of his Golden Ball-winning exploits at World Cup 2018, the Croatia international is being heavily backed for a move to Italy.Cristiano Ronaldo has already departed the Santiago Bernabeu this summer and Modric could be the next high-profile figure to head for the exits.

Madrid are reluctant to part with a proven performer, even at 32 years of age, but talk of a big-money switch to San Siro refuses to go away.

Spalletti has helped to keep the transfer rumour mill ticking over by refusing to rule out a deal for Modric, telling Sky Sport Italia after an International Champions Cup clash with Lyon: “A player of that calibre would be important for any club, let alone us.“I will keep on dreaming with the fans.

“But whatever happens we have all of our cards in order to deal with anything.“There are still a few days left in the window and if at the last moment I am given [Lionel] Messi, I would gladly accept that!”While Inter are ruling nothing out at this stage, those in Madrid are doing their best to bring the exit talk to an end.

Blancos president Florentio Perez has no desire to part with Modric and has claimed that he will only be sold if a €750 million (£670m/$870m) release clause is met.

He told reporters: "The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying €750 million.”Modric joined Madrid in 2012 and has made 257 appearances for the club.A productive spell in Spain has delivered one La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, three Club World Cup wins and four Champions League triumphs.

Klopp hints at late Liverpool movement before deadline day

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that there could be late movement at Liverpool before the summer deadline passes. The Reds have already enjoyed a busy window bringing in Fabinho, Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri, while Naby Keita has completed his move from RB Leipzig.

Big money has been spent improving last season’s Champions League finalists, with it hoped that a Premier League title challenge can be pieced together in 2018-19.

Reinforcements have, however, pushed a number of those already at Anfield down the pecking order, leading to reports of possible exits over the coming days.Klopp admitted to reporters after a 5-0 friendly victory over Napoli that sales may be sanctioned prior to the window closing on Thursday, saying: “We will see what happens.

“If any player from my team is available, then in every other situation in my life as a manager I would have bought all of them, to be honest. They are all fantastic boys, they are able to play fantastic football.“In this moment, the squad would be too big, that's true. But it's not that that means for us that we give them for free or something like that, Liverpool is strong enough to keep all these players and then we deal with that.

“We are not there to make other teams stronger, that's not our job.”Klopp also refused to rule out more additions being made to his ranks, with the German preparing for a busy shift on deadline day.

He said: “I can't kill your D-Day! People sit the whole day in front of the TV, seeing who buys and sells who. I won't watch it because I'll be working.”Regardless of whether further fresh faces arrive, Klopp believes that he is already working with his strongest squad since taking the Liverpool reins back in October 2015.

He added: “Hopefully, but we will know that after the season because how strong the squad is, the season will show and not the transfers or whatever, or the price you paid, or the money value of the squad.

“It’s only about the football and that’s what we have to do. We have to show day in and day out in the next few weeks and you will always have difficult situations.”Liverpool will open their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham on August 12.

Kroos named German Footballer of the Year for the first time

Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has been named Footballer of the Year by sports writers in Germany.

The Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), in conjunction with football magazine Kicker, gave the midfielder 185 of the 475 votes cast to ensure he won the award, which he was beaten to by Philipp Lahm in 2017-18, for the first time in his career.

The 28-year-old was a key member of the Madrid side that claimed a third successive Champions League title by beating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev in May, adding to the UEFA Super Cup, Supercopa de Espana and Club World Cup titles claimed earlier in the season.Freiburg striker Nils Petersen came second with 39 votes, while Schalke defender Naldo finished third after receiving one ballot fewer.

"It is and always will be an honour to be Footballer of the Year," Kroos told Kicker. "This is a prize that is not easy to get, and not everyone gets."Former Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes gained two votes more than Domenico Tedesco to take the Coach of the Year award.

The 73-year-old replaced Carlo Ancelotti last October for his fourth stint in charge of Bayern and clinched their sixth straight Bundesliga title, with Tedesco leading Schalke to second.

"I am very pleased that I have been voted Coach of the Year by journalists," said Heynckes. "My big compliment goes to those who did not vote for me because there are many good young coaches in the Bundesliga who also deserve this honour."On Kroos, he added: "When I got word from Kicker that Toni Kroos was voted Footballer of the Year, I was very happy for him. More so because – I can say in all modesty – I helped in his career.

"In my long career as a coach I had a tremendous number of talented players, but with Toni Kroos I quickly felt he was willing to take the professional path."Not only did he listen to and internalise what he was told, he also implemented instructions. He maintained this behaviour for years and the result is a great career."

Dzsenifer Marozsan was named Footballer of the Year for the second time in succession in the women's category after helping Lyon to Champions League success.

Chelsea 0 Manchester City 2: Aguero reaches milestone in Community Shield triumph

    4EDB3E6900000578-6028667-image-a-222_1533486201588.jpg

Sergio Aguero finally reached 200 goals for Manchester City as his double saw Pep Guardiola's side overcome Chelsea 2-0 in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Argentina international Aguero had been stuck on 199 since he notched in the EFL Cup final victory over Arsenal on February 25, but he finally added to his tally in the first half to put Chelsea on the path to defeat in their first competitive match under Maurizio Sarri. The 30-year-old looked sharp and slotted home his second after the restart to ensure the Premier League champions started the new season with silverware.

Aguero's movement enabled him to find gaps in Chelsea's defence, which has switched to a back four following Antonio Conte's departure, and served to highlight the Blues' shortcomings in the final third.

Despite the absence of star players like Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, the intensity was high in the opening stages.
City got on the front foot and took the lead inside 13 minutes when Phil Foden turned up the tempo by driving forward and feeding Aguero, who drifted into space 18 yards from goal and picked out the bottom-right corner.

Chelsea did not have their first touch in the opposition box until the 25th minute and the move ended with Alvaro Morata firing high and wide, the Blues struggling to break City down as the pace of the game subsided.A delightful pass around the back of David Luiz from Foden gave Aguero the chance to get his second five minutes after the restart, but Willy Caballero did enough to force him wide and he could only find the side-netting.

Aguero was not to be denied eight minutes later, though, as he darted behind David Luiz and placed Bernardo Silva's neat pass beyond Caballero to put the result beyond doubt.

City could have added several more but a combination of poor finishing and some fine goalkeeping from former City man Caballero kept the scoreline respectable.

'Woodward knows what I want – this could be a difficult season' – Mourinho lays down transfer gauntlet

Jose Mourinho has called for Manchester United's transfer chiefs to up their game in the final days of the market, claiming the Red Devils will face a 'difficult season' if they do not make more signings.

Premier League champions Man City - who finished 19 points ahead of United last season - have added Riyad Mahrez to their ranks and hope to add an additional holding midfielder, while Liverpool's signings of Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson have added huge amount of depth to a side that reached the Champions League final.

For Mourinho's part, Brazilian midfielder Fred has come in alongside Portuguese youngster Diogo Dalot, while Lee Grant arrived to take up a position as the Old Trafford side's third-choice keeper.

Still, United's inability to sign a new centre-back – Leicester City's Harry Maguire and Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld seemingly topping the wishlist after a move for Yerry Mina failed – has left the Portuguese boss worried about the season ahead.

Speaking to MUTV, Mourinho said: “My CEO [Ed Woodward] has known what I want for quite a long time. He knows what I want.“I know that he tries his best for me. I still have a few days to wait to see what is going to happen.”

When asked if he was indeed unhappy with the squad at his disposal the manager did not issue a denial, though he could not help having a dig at fierce rivals Liverpool's transfer activity.

“The other clubs that compete with us, they are really strong, or they already have fantastic teams and squads like Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City... or they are investing massively, like, for example, Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody.

“So if we don't make our team better it will be a difficult season for us.”Manchester United's Premier League campaign kicks off against Leicester City on August 10 at Old Trafford.

:(Bayern Munich 1 Manchester United 0: Concerns for Mourinho as Premier League creeps closer

    4EDC37E800000578-6029209-image-a-67_1533499542861.jpg

Manchester United failed to muster a shot on target at Allianz Arena as they slumped to a dispiriting 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in their final pre-season fixture.

Marcus Rashford's first appearance since the World Cup failed to inspire Jose Mourinho's men, who were outclassed and starved of possession in their last friendly before Friday's Premier League opener at home to Leicester City.

The slim margin of defeat owed only to the admirable resilience of a defence that was reinforced by the presence of Victor Lindelof and substitute Phil Jones, although the ease with which Javi Martinez rose to nod home Thiago Alcantara's 59th-minute corner will be of concern.

But the more pressing matter for Mourinho is clearly at the other end of the pitch, where an attack shorn of Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial never looked like scoring. It was a subdued performance from the outset with the earliest drama seeing Alexis Sanchez, United's captain on the night, catch Joshua Kimmich in the face with a stray arm.

It was to be the only blow the visitors landed throughout the opening half as a comfortable Bayern asked questions of David de Gea through Thiago, Serge Gnabry and Niklas Sule, who was compelled to try his luck from long range after advancing unimpeded out of his own defence.

Manuel Neuer, in contrast, did not have a save to make in his first 45 minutes at Allianz Arena since a 4-0 win over Mainz on September 16, his final club outing before foot surgery curtailed much of his campaign.

Niko Kovac showed little interest in settling at half-time with Jerome Boateng, Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka introduced off the bench, yet the goal came from an unlikely source as midfielder Martinez calmly guided a glancing header beyond a helpless De Gea.

Arjen Robben looked to have made it 2-0 late on but was correctly flagged for offside as the Bundesliga champions earned their second win in four ahead of next Sunday's DFL Supercup clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

'Finally it's over!' - Mourinho elated to end 'difficult' pre-season

Manchester United boss has expressed his joy in coming to the end of what he labelled a 'difficult' pre-season campaign, though praised his charges despite a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in Germany.

The Portuguese boss has made no secret of his ire throughout pre-season, stating that a lack of first-team stars in his suqad means the matches are all but pointless in the lead-up to the start of the Premier League.

Being without a catalogue of stars due to extended post-World Cup breaks, Mourinho has also been vocal about the club's lack of signings, and has had to make do with academy players to fill the voids.

James Garner, Axel Tuanzebe, Tahith Chong and Demetri Mitchell were the latest to feature for the Red Devils, the youngsters lining up against what was essentially Bayern Munich's first team.

And while Mourinho is glad to see the back of pre-season, he did reserve some praise for how his youthful side handled itself against international stars.“Finally, it's over,” the Man Utd boss told MUTV. “Finally, such a difficult pre-season is over.

“The players were, once again, brilliant. They could not have done better than they did. It was a fantastic experience for the boys.“There was a moment where I was looking into the area and there was Axel at centre-back to the left, Demetri at left-wing-back, Garner in midfield on the left and Chong.

“At the same time is was [Robert] Lewandowski on Axel, [Arjen] Robben on Mitchell, [Leon] Goretzka on Garner and [Niklas] Sule on Chong.
    “It was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

“We were playing against their best team. It was their complete squad apart from [Corentin] Tolisso.”With pre-season now out of the way, Man Utd now turn their attention to their Premier League opener against Leicester City on August 10, and Mourinho does not believe he will have his full first-choice team at his disposal.

“We have to organise the week in a way so we can be fresh for Friday, because on Friday the Premier League starts," he added.“We play for points and it's with the players we have.“There is no time to cry. Players are not going to be here on Friday and we have to go with the best possible team and with a great mentality.”

Tuanzebe leaves Man Utd amid Boateng & Alderweireld links

Axel Tuanzebe has left Manchester United for Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal, both clubs have confirmed.

Defender Tuanzebe departs United during an uncertain period ahead of the transfer window closing on Thursday, with Jose Mourinho's side attempting to bring in a centre-back before the deadline.
