    Portugal 3- 3 Hungary :dull:

    Group Standings

    1.Hungary
    2.Iceland
    3.Portugal
    4.Austria

The most controversial group in Euros. :baffled: I wanted Portugal to win to top the table & get into the better side but somehow 3rd place isn't so bad.
Iceland scored in the 95th min & won the game agaist Austria.
We'll play crotatia in last 16. That'll be hell of a game :D
But I'm not 100% sure. Will depend with Belgium vs Sweden I guess.

    But nevertheless, what a match!!!

Two deflected goals from set pieces for hungary. :frown:
    Portugal should defend more carefully.
And ronaldo bounced back :D 2 awesome goals and 1 assist. :D
    That flick was brilliant!!

We can win Euros this time :D

Quaresma & Sanches were awesome. They have a great impact by coming from the bench. But I'd prefer Quaresma to start over Joa Mario or Andre Gomez.

The most exciting game in the Euros so far. :D

Iniesta wanted Spain penalty before Ramos miss

Andres Iniesta has revealed he wanted to take the penalty that Sergio Ramos missed in Spain's 2-1 Euro 2016 loss to Croatia on Tuesday.

The result deprived the reigning champions of top spot in Group D, handing them a tougher route to the final in the knock-out phase as Italy await them in the last 16.
But it could have been so different had Ramos converted a second-half spot-kick, with Spain punished by the impressive Ivan Perisic's late winner."I was going to take it, but Ramos was confident and only the one who takes it can miss," Iniesta said in quotes reported by AS.

"The confidence is entirely in whoever wants to take it. We had the misfortune of missing."These things happen and now we have to continue to prepare for the game against Italy with the aim of going as far as possible.

"In theory we have stronger teams [to play] on paper, but you never know. These things happen in football and you have to be prepared for everything, not only for the times that you're being praised.

"We're on the more complicated side [of the draw] in theory, but we are Spain and we have to remain confident."Italy, who play Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, are assured of top spot in Group E.

Pogba agent hints at Juventus exit: 'Paul has to grow'

    3350742_heroa.jpg

Paul Pogba's representative Mino Raiola believes the Juventus midfielder is interested in several top European clubs.

Currently on international duty with Euro 2016 hosts France, the former Manchester United player remains one of the world's most sought after creative talents.

Real Madrid's persistent interest in Pogba has heightened ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with the 23-year-old producing another consistent campaign in 2015-16.

"Will Pogba leave Juventus?" Raiola pondered to Premium Sport.

"Paul has to grow. He’s at Juve now, so any transfer must be run past Juventus.
"I’ve said that he likes [Real Madrid manager Zinedine] Zidane, Real Madrid is fascinating as are Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, [Manchester] City, Chelsea and also Juve."

Despite considerable interest from abroad, the player's agent admitted he would not neglect potential offers from rival Italian clubs. However, Raiola dismissed suggestions any move would be stimulated by financial gain.

"Of course, money matters a lot. But if there are no business plans and there’s no investment it won’t change anything," he said."Would I listen to offers from Milan and Inter for Pogba? Why not? My interest is to represent my players as well as possible, so I don’t rule anything out."I have to do right by my players."

Mascherano deal is off - Barcelona won't sell him, Juventus admit

    javiermascherano-cropped_qbx10oj29j3c1s340fn72x0k7.jpg

Juventus have conceded defeat in their efforts to sign Javier Mascherano from Barcelona. The 32-year-old had been heavily linked with the Serie A champions, who will still bring in Dani Alves from the Camp Nou club.

Mascherano has two years remaining on his Barca contract and is now set to stay with Luis Enrique's men, with Juve moving on to other targets."Barcelona will not sell, this is now a closed case," Juve director Giuseppe Marotta is quoted as saying by Marca.

"With Miralem Pjanic and Dani Alves we have started building the team for next season."The Argentina international had revealed earlier this month that Barca were reluctant to let him leave and stressed he would not force an exit from the club he has represented since 2010.

Mascherano has won La Liga four times in his six seasons in Spain, as well as two Champions League crowns.

Hungary 3-3 Portugal: Ronaldo off the mark

    hungary-portugal-hd-220616_16k0uq69y80bu1vxe904t5rbxg.jpg

Portugal played out pulsating 3-3 draw with Hungary in the final Group F game at Euro 2016 on Wednesday, as Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in four European Championship finals.

Much discussed in the build-up to the final Group F encounter in Lyon on Wednesday - having blasted Iceland's "small mentality" and then missed a penalty in the goalless draw with Austria - the Real Madrid superstar was already at the centre of attention well before kick-off - even more so after a video emerged of him throwing a television reporter's microphone into a lake earlier in the day.
By being named in Fernando Santos' starting XI, the 31-year-old completed a record 17th appearance in the competition, and his first strike on the day made him the only player to score in four separate Euros.

That effort, a brilliant flick with his trailing foot, hauled Portugal level after Balazs Dzsudzsak's deflected free-kick had given Bernd Storck's team the lead in a pulsating affair.

Earlier, in the first half, Zoltan Gera and Nani had exchanged goals to send the teams into the interval level at 1-1.Another deflected Dzsudzsak strike then put Hungary in control once again in the 47th minute, before Ronaldo finally took centre stage.

The Portugal captain latched on to Joao Mario's ball to produce his landmark, record-breaking finish before thumping a header home just past the hour mark to seal 3-3 draw.

That saw Portugal finish third in the group, setting up a meeting with Croatia in Lens on Saturday.Hungary, meanwhile - for whom Akos Elek was denied a winner by the post - impressively advance as group winners.

On a night when he was always likely to be the headline attraction, Ronaldo's frustration - which had been building throughout the tournament - was evident as early as the eighth minute.

When Nani failed to pick him out at the back post after hurtling down the left wing towards the byline, the captain wheeled away and made no effort to hide his displeasure. His mood worsened 11 minutes later when a brilliant strike from Gera put Hungary ahead.

Headers from Ronaldo and Nani were not enough to clear away a corner, with Gera controlling the ball on his chest before driving a venomous half-volley low to Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio's left.Elek could have doubled Hungary's lead when a tackle on Dzsudzsak resulted in a kind break of the ball, but Rui Patricio rushed off his line to make an important block.

Gabor Kiraly scurried across his line to stop a 30-yard free-kick from Ronaldo bouncing into the bottom-right corner, but the Hungary goalkeeper was beaten three minutes before half-time.Ronaldo threaded a brilliant pass in behind the defence for Nani, who lashed home a powerful finish at the near post.

That gave Portugal a boost, but they found themselves behind again two minutes after the restart when Dzsudzsak's free-kick deflected off Andre Gomes and beat Rui Patricio_Once again, though, Ronaldo came to the rescue. He brilliantly used his trailing leg to flick a cross from Joao Mario behind Adam Lang and into the far corner.

Hungary's resolve still was not broken and, after seeing his free-kick blocked by the wall, Dzsudzsak collected the rebound and picked out the far corner of the net to restore his side's shock lead - with the help of a deflection off Nani.

As things stood at that stage, Portugal were heading out, but in the 62nd minute that changed again.Ronaldo - now in full stride - got away from Roland Juhasz to head substitute Ricardo Quaresma's left-wing cross into the net.

The topsy-turvy second period almost continued when Gergo Lovrencsics picked out Elek in the box, but the midfielder's first-time strike crashed back off the post.
Portugal had looked to be heading towards a last-16 clash with England, but Iceland's late winner against Hungary ensured that they finished second in the group and will take on Roy Hodgson's men. Portugal subsequently progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

Iceland 2-1 Austria: Win keeps fairytale going

An incredible 2-1 win over Austria ensured Iceland a place in the last 16, keeping the islanders' fairytale going in Euro 2016.

Needing a point to advance from Group F, the tournament debutants once again showed their iron will in defence - that had notably thwarted Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in the opening week - to keep out a swarming Austrian front line.

Austria had their chances, but Aleksandar Dragovic's first-half penalty miss, after Jon Bodvarsson had put Iceland ahead, will be looked back on ruefully.

Alessandro Schopf equalised after the interval and Austria spent much of the second half camped in opposition territory, but stout defence and Traustason's counter-attacking effort gave the travelling hordes from Iceland a moment to savour.

Austria, who were backed to make a strong showing at Euro 2016, exit the competition after picking up one point from their three group games, in which stars like David Alaba and Marko Arnautovic struggled to make an impact.

Iceland are unbeaten in the competition and have only lost one of their last nine competitive matches in a run of form that leaves England with no room for complacency as they meet a team who are entering unchartered territory under the guidance of Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson.

Perhaps expected to sit back from the off, Iceland signalled their intent when a 25-yard rocket from Johann Gudmundsson rattled the left-hand post in just the second minute, and Austria struggled to settle into the game as their opponents dictated the pace.A momentary lapse from Hannes Halldorsson almost allowed Marko Arnautovic to dispossess him in the six-yard box, but a desperate challenge from the goalkeeper denied the Stoke City striker.

Austria were made to rue the missed opportunity after 19 minutes, when Aron Gunnarsson's long throw-in was flicked on by Kari Arnason to Bodvarsson, who turned neatly and fired the ball into the far corner of the net.

As Austria pressed for an equaliser, Ari Skulason fouled Alaba in the penalty area but Dragovic's spot-kick clipped the outside of the post, and Iceland had the ball in the net just a minute later, through Birkir Bjarnason was flagged offside.

Austria had a claim for a second penalty turned down when Marcel Sabitzer was bundled over by Skulason, and Arnason had to fling himself in the way of a Sabitzer half-volley minutes later to keep the scores level.

Halldorsson saved from Schopf's thumping shot from the edge of the penalty area, but the substitute made no mistake moments later when he waltzed through Iceland's defence and buried his shot into the corner of the net.Schopf and Alaba forced further saves out of Halldorsson as Austria's attempts began to grow desperate.

Almer went up for a corner as Austria rolled the dice in injury time, but Elmar Bjarnarson broke up the other end and squared to Traustason, who converted at the far post to send Iceland into dreamland.

England to face Iceland in last 16 at Euro 2016

England will face Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016.Roy Hodgson's men were unable to secure top spot in Group B thanks to draws with Russia and Slovakia and looked all set to be punished with a tie against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the knockout stages.

But a late winner for Iceland against Austria on Wednesday lifted the tiny nation to second in Group F and lined up a game against the Three Lions, having drawn their first two matches against Portugal and Hungary.

The tie will take place in Nice on June 27 and will see the winner progress to a quarter-final match in Saint-Denis on July 3 - with hosts France one of the potential opponents.

Portugal face Croatia in Euro 2016 last 16 after Iceland's heroics

A last-minute winner for Iceland denied Portugal the chance to meet England in the Euro 2016 last 16, meaning that Cristiano Ronaldo's men will take on Croatia in the next round.

Portugal were forced to save their campaign no less than three times against Hungary, before Ronaldo's double finally assured the draw necessary to progress.
A defeat would have meant early elimination for the Seleccao but a 3-3 draw sees them qualify as one of the best-placed teams in third.

Opposite them in Lens on June 25 will be dangerous Croatia, who gave a warning of their talent with a 2-1 win against Spain. It was the first time since 2004 that La Furia Roja had tasted defeat at a European Championship, with Nikola Kalinic and Ivan Perisic overturning Alvaro Morata's opener. The game also promises a clash of Clasico rivals for Ivan Rakitic and Ronaldo, respectively of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The winner will advance into a quarter-final game in Marseille on June 30 against either Switzerland or Poland.

Italy 0-1 Ireland: Brady the hero for Boys in Green

    ireland-celebrate_1qjat4xssvt3n1i5fwc57n34a6.jpg

Martin O'Neill's side knew it was win or bust in Lille, but it looked like a typically spirited display was not going to be enough until Brady popped up to glance Wes Hoolahan's inch-perfect cross beyond Salvatore Sirigu with five minutes left.

With top spot in the pool already secured and a mouth-watering last-16 tie with Spain on the horizon, Italy boss Antonio Conte made eight alterations to his starting line-up, with the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Antonio Candreva sitting out.

Ireland flew out of the traps in the first half as they attempted to catch Italy's second string cold.Despite the largely different personnel, Conte's side still performed with their usual defensive diligence and Ireland struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.

O'Neill's team had every right to feel aggrieved for not being awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time when Federico Bernardeschi barged into James McClean, and Hoolahan should have put them in front when he shot straight at Sirigu from 10 yards. However, the Norwich City man went from villain to hero, as he sent in a wonderful inswinging delivery for Brady to seal a last-16 meeting with hosts France.

It was rich reward for an Ireland side that looked determined not to be left wondering and quickly went about putting Italy on the back foot. Jeff Hendrick went close in the 10th minute when he dipped inside Thiago Motta and rifled a left-footed strike just wide of the post from 20 yards.Daryl Murphy was next to go close as he glanced Brady's excellent outswinging corner goalwards, only to be denied by Buffon's deputy Sirigu.

Italy were struggling to cope with the Ireland's intensity, but Ciro Immobile had Darren Randolph scrambling across his goal when he shot just wide from the edge of the area.Ireland then thought they should have had a penalty when McClean went down under a clumsy challenge from Bernardeschi, but referee Ovidiu Hategan waved away their appeals and, with that, an entertaining first half came to an end.

The Azzurri started the second half on the front foot and Simone Zaza flashed a left-footed volley narrowly over the bar from Mattia De Sciglio's cross shortly after the restart.

Hendrick again shot wide from range as Ireland's application threatened to turn to desperation around the hour mark.Conte introduced Lorenzo Insigne for Immobile with a quarter of an hour remaining and the Napoli man almost dealt the fatal blow to Ireland's fading hopes when he hit the woodwork from 20 yards.

But there was late drama to come, as first Hoolahan scuffed a weak effort into the grateful arms of Sirigu, before then producing a cross of outstanding quality for Brady to convert and spark wild scenes of celebration among the vast swathes of green-clad Ireland fans in the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Sweden 0-1 Belgium: Ibra and Co. knocked out

    sweden-belgium-euro-2016-zlatan-ibrahimovic_zn4z8i45bv101eedm0s8oq6se.jpg

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's international career ended in disappointment as Sweden exited Euro 2016 following a 1-0 defeat to Belgium in Nice.

The captain revealed ahead of the game that he would be retiring from Sweden duty when they went out of the tournament, a fate that was sealed by Radja Nainggolan's impressive strike six minutes from time.

Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku both had goals ruled out in the second half of a match that only caught fire in the closing stages, with Sweden paying the price for their failure to break down Marc Wilmots' men.

Belgium put in a subdued performance, but the late victory ensures they finish second in Group E and progress to face Hungary in the last 16.Sweden, meanwhile, conclude the group stage with just one point from three games – a total that puts them bottom of the standings.Thibaut Courtois made a big early save from Marcus Berg – Sweden's only change – after Belgium had failed to deal with a free-kick from the left.

That was Sweden's first shot on target in the tournament, but Belgium were next to threaten when Kevin De Bruyne's long-range effort tested Andreas Isaksson after good work from Eden Hazard to create the chance.

Ibrahimovic was just off-target with an effort for Erik Hamren's men, before Thomas Meunier's glancing header from De Bruyne's delivery flew inches wide at the other end.

Berg's control let him down at the crucial moment when Ibrahimovic played him in after the break, while the captain had an acrobatic goal ruled out after the referee had blown for a high foot from his strike partner in the build-up.

That was Berg's last act with John Guidetti sent on as Sweden searched for the winner they needed, but Isaksson had to get down sharply to push away a De Bruyne effort and keep his side in with a chance.

Isaksson made another key block after Lukaku bore down on goal, before the Everton attacker raged against an offside flag having put the ball in the net from Meunier's pass a few moments later.

Ibrahimovic almost scored a goal that would have extended his Sweden career, but Courtois pushed away his long-range free-kick.Sweden came even closer in the final stages, with Andreas Granqvist's header from Kim Kallstrom's cross dramatically cleared off the goal-line by De Bruyne.

But their hopes of qualification were ended when Hazard made ground down the left and his cross found Nainggolan , with the Roma midfielder taking one touch before rifling a great strike into the far corner from 20 yards with the aid of a slight deflection.

De Bruyne and substitute Christian Benteke both came close to adding gloss to the scoreline for Belgium as Sweden desperately searched for a way back into the game, but one goal proved to be enough for victory.

:yes:Hazard: Ibrahimovic can still achieve more in football

Eden Hazard tipped Zlatan Ibrahimovic to keep making an impact in football after a 1-0 defeat to Belgium brought the star striker's Sweden career to an end.

Sweden needed a win to keep their Euro 2016 campaign - and Ibrahimovic's international career - alive, but Radja Nainggolan's strike secured second place in Group E for Hazard's side.

Ibrahimovic is widely expected to join Hazard in the Premier League next season with a move to Manchester United, and the Chelsea attacker thinks his opposite number will continue thriving.

"Zlatan is a big name in football. He has achieved a lot of things with Sweden, some great things," Hazard said at a news conference."He will have wanted to stay in the tournament a bit longer, but it was our goal to progress.

"But he will always be a huge name in football. He can still achieve a lot of things at club level."Belgium will meet Hungary in the round of 16 and Hazard has stressed they should not underestimate the Group F winners.

"Hungary will be a complicated game," the Belgium captain added."We watched the last bit of their match versus Portugal. They have some good players and always give 200 per cent.

"We expect a difficult game, but we have to be ready."We will see at the end of the tournament if we are indeed in the easy part of the schedule, without any favourites. But there are no easy games. We saw today that Ireland beat Italy."

Spain face Italy, Wales play Northern Ireland - the Euro 2016 last-16 fixtures in full

Euro 2016 has completed its group stage and we now know who will face whom when the last 16 gets started on Saturday.

Hosts France topped Group A and, as a reward, will take on Republic of Ireland, who finished as one of the best third-placed teams thanks to their late rally to beat Italy in the final game of Group E. Didier Deschamps's men will play their round-of-16 tie in Lyon on Sunday.

The winner of that game will take on either England or Iceland after the latter's late, late winner against Austria lifted them into second place in Group F to set up a showdown with Roy Hodgson's men in Nice on Monday.

Switzerland, who finished as runners-up to France in Group A, must now prepare for a game against Poland, who came in second in Group C, to take place in Saint-Etienne on Saturday. Also playing on that day will be Croatia and Portugal, who scraped through Group F in third, and the winner of that meeting in Lens will take on Switzerland or Poland in a Marseille quarter-final.

Wales roared to the top of Group B, inspired by the prolific Gareth Bale, and are rewarded with an all-British match against Northern Ireland, the third-placed finishers from Group C, in Paris on Saturday. For whichever of the two progresses, it would mean a quarter-final against Hungary (who won Group F) or Belgium (second in Group E) following their last-16 encounter in Toulouse on Sunday.

    y2sSy19.jpg

Germany were one of the few favourites to do as expected and win their group and will consequently take on Slovakia, third-placed finishers from Group B, in a knockout game in Lille on Sunday.Meanwhile, Italy will take on Spain in the highest-profile game of the round thanks to the holders' failure to top Group D - Saint-Denis will play host to that one on Monday. The winner will be expecting to face Germany in Bordeaux on July 2.

It was bad news for Turkey and Albania, however, whose poor goal differences saw them miss out on taking slots for the best third-placed teams. They join Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Sweden and Austria in exiting the tournament.
