Courtois: I want to return to Spain

    hd-thibaut-courtois_hd5qi7lkax8s1c41gpdagg4nb.jpg

Thibaut Courtois has admitted he wants to return to La Liga and may not sign a new contract at Chelsea to engineer a move back to Spain.Courtois joined Chelsea from Genk in 2011 and was immediately shipped out on loan to Atletico Madrid for the next three seasons.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a fruitful stint with the Spanish outfit, playing a key role in them winning La Liga in 2014, as well as the Copa del Rey in 2013 and also the Europa League in 2012.And Courtois has since revealed he cried when his time at the club came to end and has expressed his desire to return to La Liga in the future.“I feel half Spanish,” Courtois told Marca. “When I said goodbye I had a bad time. I had cold blood, it was not easy. I cried.

“Atletico is a family club. I still feel their love.”Asked specifically if he would be interested in returning to Atletico, Courtois replied: “Yes, but not only because of the club, but how Madrid is and the whole country.“From the first minute I fell in love with Spain for its people, lifestyle, food… I still eat dinner and then have an afternoon nap, most of the television I see is Spanish… I am half Spanish.”

Courtois is not the only Chelsea player to reveal his interest in securing a switch back to Atletico, with Diego Costa having also admitted he tried to return to his former club in the summer. The Belgium shot-stopper also says he may try to leave Chelsea on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer of 2018.

“I have a contract at Chelsea for three seasons,” he added. “In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave.”Courtois has previously been linked with a big-money move to Atletico's bitter rivals Real Madrid in recent months.

    Rashford: I can be Manchester United's No.10

    marcusrashford-cropped_1kkkmuy000wuv1vd7lggtaf0fr.jpg

Marcus Rashford says he is ready to play as a No.10 for Manchester United if called upon by manager Jose Mourinho.

The England international has played as a winger or forward since breaking into the first team at Old Trafford last season, but he regularly featured in a deeper role with United's academy.

Wayne Rooney has been deployed behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic so far this season but has failed to make an impact, with Mourinho reportedly ready to drop the struggling captain.

And Rashford has now indicated his willing to take on the 30-year-old's responsibility as creator-in-chief for the senior side."I don't regret playing in the No.10 role because it means now I can still play there if I need to," Rashford told Inside United.

"[Playing as] No.10, on both wings and up front as well. It means I have more in my armoury when it comes to the matches. "I used to look up to players who would dribble at people, creating chances, scoring too.

"But the type of the player I want to be now is different to the type of player I wanted to be then."

Yaya Toure announces retirement from international football

    yaya-toure-ivory-coast_fqyncbx8qi8j12jxqihkv38o3.jpg

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has announced his retirement from international football with Ivory Coast.

The 33-year-old debuted for his nation in 2004, and took a break from the side following their Africa Cup of Nations triumph in February 2015.He returned to the squad in March this year, but on Tuesday confirmed he will no longer put himself in contention for selection.

"There are decisions that are difficult to take. But, I have to pass the baton on to the younger [generation]," he said in a statement."After 14 years at most levels with the Elephants, I [have] come to the end of my adventure with the Ivory Coast."I thank all the supporters, all my fans."

Toure has found himself out of favour this season at Manchester City, with new boss Pep Guardiola starting him in just one competitive match.

That came in the second leg of the Champions League play-off against Steaua Bucharest, with City already leading 5-0 from the away fixture and Toure was subsequently omitted from City's squad for the group stage. There had been speculation Toure will start against Swansea City in the EFL Cup third round on Wednesday, but Guardiola confirmed in his press conference that was not the case.

Toure's agent, Dimitri Seluk, demanded an apology from Guardiola for "humiliating" his client, but the Spaniard said on Tuesday he would not select the player until it was he who received an apology from Seluk.

Zidane confirms Bale and Ronaldo return for Villarreal clash

    baleronaldo-cropped_2jyeof94dcoq14h2bnzadxpcp.jpg

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale will be available for Real Madrid against Villarreal on Wednesday, coach Zinedine Zidane has confirmed. The superstar duo missed Sunday's 2-0 win at Espanyol due to illness and a hip injury respectively.

It mattered little as James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema provided the goals in a comfortable success that maintained Madrid's perfect start to the LaLiga campaign.Zidane will now be boosted by the return of Ronaldo and Bale for Wednesday's meeting with Villarreal at Santiago Bernabeu.

"Bale and Cristiano are ready for tomorrow's match," the Frenchman told reporters at his press conference. However, Real could be without defender Pepe, who sat out training on Tuesday.

"Pepe didn't train today, but the other four defenders can play. Nacho can play in the centre and also on the side," added Zidane, before playing down Madrid's strong start to the 2016-17 season."We've had little time to prepare for the match, but we are prepared," he said.

"We are going to try to get the three points, we don't look at others. We haven't won anything. The records are nice and we want to continue winning. I take it day by day.

"It's never easy to win. We have to think about our match. If we want to win something we have to win our matches."

Guardiola blasts Toure agent: Apologise or he won't play for Man City again

    pep-guardiola-and-yaya-toure-of-manchester-city_598mju7ocqzq1ahl0ajr91j0s.jpg

Pep Guardiola says Yaya Toure will not feature for Manchester City until he receives an apology for Dmitri Seluk's recent outbursts in the media.

Guardiola left Toure out of his Champions League squad for this season and Goal understands City were keen to move the Ivorian on if they could find a willing buyer in the summer transfer window.

Seluk, Toure's agent, told the press a day after his exclusion from that squad that the decision "humiliated" his client, and that "if City don’t win the Champions League then I hope that Pep has got the balls to say that he was wrong to humiliate a great player like Yaya."

Guardiola, however, has not taken kindly to the comments, and said on the eve of City's League Cup clash with Swansea City that Toure will play no part, and that he can expect to be left out until the Toure camp reaches out to the City boss and his players to make amends.

"It was so difficult for me to put him out in the Champions League," Guardiola said. "So difficult. I know him, I know he’s a good, good guy, but it was difficult for me as well to put Aleix Garcia out, [they are] the only two players that are out, because the list is the list.

"But the day after his agent spoke. In that moment Yaya is out. Unless Mr Dmitri Seluk comes back in the press conference, or his friends in the media, [until] he has the courage to call me, or go to the media and say he apologises to Manchester City, the first one, the second one is his team-mates and after the trainer.

"When that happens Yaya will be part of the group and he will have the same chance to play all the games. Because I cannot accept, as a coach, every agent when his player doesn’t play goes to the media and speak and speak and speak.
"I know how Dmitri Seluk loves Yaya Toure, if he loves me, show me and apologise to Manchester City what he did in the [media]. I cannot imagine in my period when I was a football player, my manager going to the media and speaking against Johan Cruyff, about this and about that.

"Maybe it’s a new era now, the new period changing, but I’m an old guy. I am old generation, and old generation agents have to make his players his job and trainers his job, and today the agents believe they are more than they are. If he has a problem call Txiki Begiristain, the club, and they can talk, until he doesn’t speak, Yaya is not going to play."Toure announced his decision to retire from international duty with the Ivory Coast in the minutes leading up to Guardiola's press conference on Tuesday, and it appears his chances of playing club football in the near future are just as slim.

Guardiola began his press conference by taking questions on the availability of Toure and Vincent Kompany for Wednesday's game at Swansea, and it was clear that the Ivorian's situation was not unlike any of his team-mates'."Kompany has a chance," he said. "Yaya no. He is not in the team."Guardiola was later asked about the decision to exclude Toure, and he simply replied: "It depends on Dmitri Seluk."

Pochettino confirms ligament damage for Kane

    harrykane-cropped_rcmg6wrkty3b1357quup7sspa.jpg

Harry Kane has suffered ligament damage to his right ankle but Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino refused to set a date for his return.England international Kane scored the winner as Spurs overcame Sunderland 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

But he had to be carried from the field on a stretcher after turning his ankle in a challenge with Papy Djilobodji late in the game at White Hart Lane."He [Kane] has injured his ankle ligaments," Pochettino confirmed on Tuesday, amid reports the forward could face up to two months out.

"We will continue to assess him every day but don't want to put a timeframe on it."
Pochettino also lost Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele to apparent hamstring problems against Sunderland, although the Argentine later revealed the midfield duo were suffering from cramp.

The head coach is not anticipating any major problems for Dier or Dembele, as Spurs prepare to face Gillingham in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

"We will assess Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier today and see what happens. We're not expecting any big issues," Pochettino added.

Luis Enrique: Barca must beat Atleti to win La Liga

    luis-enrique-barcelona-press-conference_tk19rrzbfbq01fgde0lb9n11k.jpg

Luis Enrique believes his Barcelona side have to beat Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night if they are to win La Liga this season.

The two teams are separated by just one point ahead of their meeting at Camp Nou, though both trail leaders Real Madrid with four games played.

However, Luis Enrique sees Atleti challenging for top spot again this season, having won the title in 2014, and he was gushing in his praise of Diego Simeone's men as he prepares for a game he declares Barca have to win.

"They look like they're practically the same team that was so successful in the last few years, especially the way they defend and in other aspects of play like transition game, counterattack," Luis Enrique told a news conference. "They're very good at set-pieces.

"And with their new players and their other players, they're one of the best teams in [La Liga]. They're aspiring to all the titles on the table, like they have in recent years with Simeone as their coach.

"And we have to do a lot of things well. Commit very few errors, play our game, try to control possession - we have to play a complete game."There hasn't been any easy game against them in the last few years. They're a very direct team. We have to beat them in order to win the title. We're going to need to do everything well in order to beat them.

"They're very solid, they play great defensively. They're capable of creating pressure up high. And defensively they're probably the best team and that's how complex it is to beat them. That's indicative of the work they do.

"They have very good players in attack as well. A lot of options to attack both up the middle and out on the wing. When you put all these things together, it turns out to be a very complicated team [to play against]."

'I'll apologise if Pep apologises to Pellegrini' - Toure's agent hits back at Man City boss

    pep-guardiola-manchester-city-premier-league_1v04w7x9rh3dp1bix7vucau89v.jpg

Yaya Toure's agent Dimitri Seluk has responded angrily to Pep Guardiola's ultimatum over the midfielder's future at Manchester City.

Guardiola told reporters at a pre-match news conference ahead of his team's EFL Cup tie at Swansea City that Toure will not be considered for selection until he apologises for comments made by Seluk regarding his omission from City's Champions League squad.

Seluk was initially the party calling for an apology, claiming Guardiola "humiliated" his client, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was unequivocal over who the wronged parties were."[Toure] must apologise to his team-mates. He must apologise to the club. If he doesn't, he won't play," he said.

Nevertheless, Seluk showed no inclination towards accepting terms when he responded via Sky Sports News - suggesting eight wins from his first eight matches in charge of City have given Guardiola an inflated sense of worth, while criticising the Catalan for accepting his current post earlier this year while Manuel Pellegrini was still in the job.

"Guardiola wins a few games and thinks he is king," Seluk said."I live in Europe so I can say whatever I like and Guardiola can't stop me."What do I need to apologise for? Ok, I will apologise to Guardiola if he will apologise to [Manuel] Pellegrini for what he did to him."If you are a gentleman, this just does not happen. He [Pellegrini] signed a new contract last year and then he gets pushed out for Guardiola to come in. Pellegrini was a gentleman."

Gotze did not fail at Bayern Munich - agent

    gotze-dortmund_1fmyld8bnl49h1tdab71x5vedb.jpg

Mario Gotze's agent Roland Eitel is adamant the attacking midfielder did not fail during his three seasons at Bayern Munich.

The Germany international joined Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2013, but struggled to live up to the high expectations at the Allianz Arena and returned to BVB ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.Nevertheless, Gotze's representative has stressed his return to Dortmund does not mean he failed at the Bundesliga champions.

"We have to treat players differently. Gotze has been playing at the highest level for five years. He deserves much, much more respect," Eitel told Eurosport.

"Why are we talking about how Gotze failed at Bayern? He is only 24 years old and has already won five Bundesliga titles, played 118 games for Bayern and fired Germany to World Cup glory. What do you mean a failure?"Just like it is a lack of respect to say he should be training harder."

Gotze has netted once in two appearances in all competitions for Dortmund since his return, scoring the opener in the 6-0 Champions League win over Legia Warsaw.

    Valencia sack Ayestaran

    pako-ayestaran-valencia_1e8y84i83zbiy151ykn7iqhf9t.png

Valencia have dismissed coach Pako Ayestaran on the back of four consecutive defeats that leave the club bottom of the standings in La Liga.

Ayestaran took over first-team affairs at Mestalla after Gary Neville's similarly ill-fated reign ended in March and he signed a deal running until June 2018 two months later.

But a terrible start to the current campaign threw his future into jeopardy and Valencia confirmed his dismissal on Tuesday – two days on from a 2-1 defeat at Athletic Bilbao.

"After the meeting of the board of directors, Valencia Football Club has decided to relieve from office the coach Pako Ayestaran," a statement read."The decision was made after analysing the current sporting situation and results.

"Valencia Football Club wishes to thank the involvement, effort and professionalism of Pako Ayestaran and his coaching staff in his time at the helm. The club wishes them all the best of luck for the future."

Vero Gonzalez will take charge of Valencia on an interim basis, although Argentina icon Mario Kempes – who represented Los Che during his playing days – has touted himself for the post.

Kempes, who remains a club ambassador, tweeted on Sunday: "In response to those who ask for me to become coach of Valencia, I would do so with all my desire so long as they ask me.

"It is very worrying what is happening with this Valencia without projects or ideas and what we see as pure footballing impotence."

Wolfsburg 1-5 Borussia Dortmund: Aubameyang at the double in easy win

    pierre-emerick-aubameyang-wolfsburg-borussia-dortmund-bundesliga_1qfhq5uitdxy1mfetiv3ptrsp.jpg

Borussia Dortmund took their tally to 17 goals in three matches with a 5-1 thumping of Wolfsburg to climb to the Bundesliga's summit.

Thomas Tuchel's side came into this meeting at the Volkswagen Arena having beaten both Legia Warsaw and Darmstadt 6-0, and they tore apart a Wolfsburg defence that had not conceded a goal this season prior to Tuesday's clash.

Raphael Guerreiro's fourth-minute opener came as he slotted home following a slide-rule pass from Marc Bartra - whose participation was ended shortly afterwards by an apparent groin injury.

And Guerreiro then turned provider for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who showcased his clinical finishing skills to claim his first of the night in the 16th minute.
Two Wolfsburg half-time substitutes, Paul Seguin and Daniel Didavi, combined for the latter to haul the hosts back into it soon after the restart, but any hope was soon dashed by two quickfire Dortmund goals.

Gonzalo Castro was brought on at the break and he played a key role, first squaring for Ousmane Dembele to tap home and then teeing up Aubameyang for his second, with Lukasz Piszczek heading in the fifth from a Guerreiro corner.

Portugal international Guerreiro was excellent throughout and it was he who benefited from a superb Bartra pass to break the deadlock, his low effort taking a slight deflection off Vieirinha and beating Koen Casteels at his near post.

Wolfsburg ought to have levelled four minutes later when former Dortmund attacker Jakub Blaszczykowski jinked his way into the box and set up Bruno Henrique, who could only shoot tamely at Roman Burki from close range.Dortmund then lost Bartra, but took that setback in their stride, doubling their lead as Aubameyang ran onto Guerreiro's flick, easily rounded Philipp Wollscheid and curled a precise finish beyond Casteels.

The Wolfsburg goalkeeper prevented a third by smothering the ball at the feet of Marcel Schmelzer and, as the end-to-end nature of the game continued apace, Yannick Gerhardt and Maximilian Arnold both blazed wastefully over for the hosts.

Burki was called into action twice in as many minutes towards the end of the first half, denying Mario Gomez one-on-one before parrying away Ricardo Rodriguez's 20-yard free-kick.

The hosts continued to pose a threat and somehow failed to reduce the arrears in the 50th minute, Julian Draxler denied by Burki at point-blank range before Gomez stabbed the rebound against the post from less than a yard. They did not have to wait long, however, as Seguin crossed for Didavi to convert.

But five minutes later, Dortmund restored their two-goal advantage as the influential Guerreiro released Castro, who squared unselfishly for Dembele and the former Rennes striker had the simplest of tasks for his first Bundesliga goal.

It was 4-1 in no time as once again Castro broke free and set up Aubameyang to slide home a simple finish, before Piszczek glanced in Guerreiro's corner unmarked in the 73rd minute to cap another resounding win.

Derby County 0-3 Liverpool: Coutinho shines as Klopp's men progress

    coutinho-firmino-derby-county-liverpool-efl-cup_1qlvnjkezhwqu1pgdhal2fknsi.jpg

In-form Liverpool eased into the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Derby County at the iPro Stadium on Tuesday.

Philippe Coutinho scored one goal and assisted the other two as Jurgen Klopp's much-changed side crushed their Championship opponents, in the process extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches.Ragnar Klavan grabbed Liverpool's opener, the defender capitalising on a defensive error by Derby's Richard Keogh to find the net in the 24th minute.

Liverpool then hit their hosts with a quick-fire double at the start of the second half to put the contest to bed, Coutinho slotting home a one-on-one opportunity before setting up Divock Origi to do likewise from a tight angle.

Having brushed aside Burton Albion in the last round, Klopp's side have now managed eight goals without reply in the competition, raising hopes last year's beaten finalists could be set for a return to Wembley.

The German shuffled his pack for the trip to the east Midlands, handing full debuts to goalkeeper Loris Karius and midfielder Marko Grujic.

Yet despite making seven alterations to the XI that started the 2-1 win over Chelsea last time out, Liverpool’s new-look line-up were quickly into their stride.

Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino both fired long-range shots just over before an unlikely source rewarded the visitors' dominance with an opening goal.
Keogh's fluffed clearance from a Coutinho corner allowed Klavan to turn the ball in at the back post, with his left-footed effort finding the net via a deflection off Cyrus Christie.

Derby goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell tipped over a Coutinho free-kick to keep the deficit down to one at the break, although he was unable to deny the Brazilian from scoring five minutes after the interval.

Coutinho played a one-two with compatriot Firmino, whose wonderfully weighted return ball allowed his team-mate to slot beyond Mitchell without breaking stride.

The tie was put beyond Derby four minutes later, Coutinho this time the provider as his ball down the right channel allowed Origi to hammer the ball into the roof of the net.

With such a healthy lead, Klopp had the luxury of withdrawing captain Henderson and star man Coutinho ahead of Saturday's league game against Hull City at Anfield.Danny Ings was given the chance to make his first appearance of the season off the bench, while there was a debut for another substitute, youngster Ovie Ejaria.

Karius did get a reprieve when his failure to deal with a corner saw Keogh head just over, although it was a rare moment of concern on a night that saw Liverpool in cruise control.

Nottingham Forest 0-4 Arsenal: Perez at the double as Gunners progress

    lucas-perez-efl-cup-nottingham-forest-v-arsenal-200916_7oidwzfaq5va1qi4ikx60mdn5.jpg

Lucas Perez scored a second-half double as Arsenal ran-out 4-0 winners over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Former Deportivo la Coruna forward Perez, signed for a reported £17 million in August, netted his maiden goal for Arsene Wenger's side with a coolly despatched penalty on the hour-mark, before doubling his tally with a superb solo effort.

In the first meeting between the two sides since 1999, Granit Xhaka's second goal in as many games – a blistering strike from 25 yards out – opened the scoring midway through a tightly-contested first-half at the City Ground.

On the 12th anniversary of Brian Clough's death, Philippe Montanier's side looked to respond after the interval, but any hopes of a comeback were all-but ended when Perez converted after Michael Mancienne brought down Chuba Akpom in the area.

And Perez swiftly followed up his maiden strike to ensure that Arsenal progressed to the fourth round in comfortable fashion, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completing the win in stoppage time.

Forest could have had the lead early on, former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner – on his full debut – teeing up Patjim Kasami, but the ex-Fulham midfielder could only drag his shot off target.

The City Ground paid homage to Forest legend Clough with a round of applause in the 12th minute, with Arsenal mustering their first chance a moment later, Vladimir Stojkovic saving well from Akpom's strike.

Bendtner was at the heart of the action again soon after, the Denmark forward curling wide after driving in unchallenged from the left.

However, Forest's hard work was undone 23 minutes in – Xhaka, fresh from opening his Arsenal account with a stunning goal against Hull City on Saturday, unleashing a venomous effort that Stojkovic could only palm up into the net after it had deflected wickedly off Chris Cohen.

Arsenal went close to doubling their tally on the stroke of half-time, Akpom flashing an acrobatic attempt across goal at the culmination of a swift counter-attack.

Perez was the next Arsenal man to test Stojkovic, Forest's goalkeeper hanging on to the Spaniard's dipping free-kick after Bendtner had thumped a low effort wide at the other end.

Wenger's side were gifted the opportunity to extend their advantage just prior to the hour, Mancienne adjudged to have dragged down Akpom in Forest's area. And Perez duly made no mistake from the spot, drilling his penalty high into the net past Stojkovic.

Forest were a shambles at the back, and found themselves further behind in the 71st minute, Perez shrugging off the challenges of two defenders as he powered into the box and, after initially failing to connect with his attempted strike, squeezing the ball home at the second attempt.

The Spaniard squandered a gilt-edged opportunity to seal his hat-trick as he fluffed his lines from close-range late on, but he turned provider in stoppage time as Oxlade-Chamberlain added the fourth with a cool finish as Arsenal eased to their fourth-successive win over Forest.

Milan 2-0 Lazio: On-form Bacca scores again in Rossoneri victory

    carlos-bacca-ac-milan-lazio-serie-a-2016_rnqda457pra5134dhpf7d7bqw.jpg

Carlos Bacca netted against Lazio for the third game running to help Vincenzo Montella's AC Milan to a 2-0 victory in Serie A on Tuesday.

The former Sevilla forward scored home and away against the Rome club last season and added another with a clinical first-half finish, before M'Baye Niang's penalty clinched the three points at San Siro.

Milan ended 2015-16 with a miserable run on home soil, failing to win in their final five league matches, but Montella has turned that around in the early stages of his tenure.

This is already the second time that Bacca has fired Milan towards victory in front of their own supporters this term, having smashed a hat-trick against Torino on the opening day, as well as grabbing the only goal from the bench at Sampdoria last Friday.

Bacca had largely been kept quiet by Lazio until he pounced on a Marco Parolo error, then inspired some intense Milan pressure as they sought a second. It was 2-0 when Niang won and dispatched a spot-kick 16 minutes from time to leave Lazio without a league win against Milan on this ground since 1989.

With the hosts making a laboured start, the visitors managed the game's first shot as Filip Djordjevic sidefooted into the arms of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Ciro Immobile's lay-off.

Niang looked to respond, tumbling with no reward after racing away from Bastos in the Lazio defence, but Donnarumma was soon in action again to parry Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's header away from his near post at the end of Senad Lulic's long throw.

The lively Niang was quickly on the move once more, though, stepping inside from Juraj Kucka's nodded pass to scuff a strike at Thomas Strakosha.A number of hopeful efforts from distance followed at either end, before Giacomo Bonaventura's clumsy dribble was halted with a ricochet looping just past the post.

But finally, in the 37th minute, the recalled Bacca was given a sight of goal as the Lazio backline parted, and he made no mistake. Running clear after Kucka had profited on Marco Parolo's dallying, the Colombian coolly sent Strakosha the wrong way to tuck a finish low inside the corner of the net.

Milan sparked into life, with Bonaventura twice testing Strakosha, who first beat away a thump from Niang's cute pass and then clung to a rasping drive at the second attempt.

Somehow, the visitors headed into half-time still in the game. Suso's magical run on the right concluded with Bastos inadvertently thumping at Strakosha, before Dusan Basta jumped in front of Bonaventura's follow-up.

After the restart, Immobile dragged wide from an angled run, but Niang offered up a far more glaring miss at the other end. With Bacca dissecting the Lazio defence, Davide Calabria centred and the rangy Frenchman failed to direct the ball into an open goal.

But Niang did get his goal. Strakosha and Donnarumma had gathered speculative strikes from Niang and Felipe Anderson, respectively, when the former ventured into the area and his low delivery struck the arm of Stefan Radu. A penalty was given and Niang calmly slotted it away.

Strakosha responded with a stunning stop from Kucka's powerful free-kick, but, with the damage done, Milan cruised to three points.

Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Dijon: Cavani on target again for Emery's men

    edinson-cavani-psg-dijon-ligue-1-20092016_1moawtad9k7v91p296nbiwdb8e.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain climbed to the top of Ligue 1 on goal difference as they took their goalscoring feats to nine goals in two games with a resounding 3-0 win over Dijon.

Unai Emery's side crushed Caen 6-0 in the league last time out and they maintained their impressive form as Edinson Cavani and Lucas Moura netted after Adam Lang's own goal.

Lang marked his Dijon debut in unfortunate style by deflecting Maxwell's cross into his own net with 15 minutes played before Cavani bagged his sixth goal in the last three games in all competitions from the penalty spot.Dijon offered little going forward apart from a brief spell before the break, Mehdi Abeid rattling the PSG woodwork.

Victory was assured as Moura took advantage of some poor marking from the Dijon defence to add the third midway through the second-half.

With a three-goal cushion Emery's side were able to ease up in the closing minutes as they recorded a fourth win of the season, three points that sees them climb above Monaco to the summit.

It took PSG - again without Hatem Ben Arfa - 12 minutes to open up the Dijon defence for the first time, with Angel Di Maria sliding an enticing low ball across the face of goal which the onrushing Moura somehow contrived to scuff wide of the target.

But they were not to be denied three minutes later as an own-goal from the luckless Lang gifted them the lead, Maxwell's cross deflecting off of the Hungary international before looping over goalkeeper Baptiste Reynet.

And after Moura had again gone close for the hosts, they duly doubled their advantage from the spot.Jordan Loties conceded the penalty with a clumsy and needless foul on Adrien Rabiot and Cavani stepped up to rifle the ball past Reynet.

Having barely registered a meaningful attack in the opening half-hour, Dijon did finally muster a response through Mehdi Abeid but his curling effort cannoned back off the junction of bar and post.

But the visitors were ultimately fortunate not to find themselves 3-0 down at the break after Di Maria popped up on the right, cut inside and bent a left-foot shot inches wide.

Dijon showed more purpose after the break and succeeded in keeping the home side at arm's length until the 64th minute when Maxwell delivered another fine cross from the left and Moura headed home his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Defender Presnel Kimpembe then came close to claiming his first Ligue 1 goal as his header from a Javier Pastore corner was spectacularly palmed over the bar by Reynet.

To their credit, Dijon finished the game on the front foot, with substitute Frederic Sammaritano twice going close to grabbing his side a late consolation. But it mattered little as PSG wrapped up a third game unbeaten in the league since their early-season blip at Monaco.

Leicester 2-4 Chelsea (AET): Fabregas double seals comeback to send Foxes out

    cesc-fabregas-efl-cup-leicester-v-chelsea-200916_1hfc86vfzfpy41cb0rsg4qepl3.jpg

Chelsea recovered from two goals down to beat Leicester 4-2 at the King Power Stadium thanks to two goals in extra-time from Cesc Fabregas.

The visitors' defence was highly culpable as Shinji Okazaki ended a 13-game goal drought with two first-half goals for the Premier League champions, but two of Antonio Conte's back four were able to make amends either side of the interval.

Captain Gary Cahill headed home a Fabregas corner in first-half stoppage time before Cesar Azpilicueta – who tried in vain to hack both Okazaki goals off the line – elevated a pulsating match further with a spectacular long-range volley in the 49th minute.

Leicester were forced to play the additional half-hour with 10 men after Marcin Wasilewski struck substitute Diego Costa with a forearm and Chelsea made merry against reduced numbers as Fabregas struck twice inside the opening four minutes of extra-time.

The match took place following conflicting reports of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's displeasure regarding last Friday's 2-1 loss to Liverpool, meaning Conte's men turned in a timely showing of character and class.Marcos Alonso was selected for his Chelsea debut as both managers made seven changes and it was the reshuffled visitors who settled quickest.

Pedro had an early goal chalked off for a marginal offside and Wasilewski breathed easily when referee Robert Madley did not punish him for handling inside the box.

There was a similar sense of relief for Cahill when his pass was intercepted by Okazaki and his subsequent collision with Ahmed Musa in the penalty area went unpunished.

Nevertheless, Chelsea remained some way below Conte's famously exacting defensive standards and fell behind thanks to some dismal defending after 17 minutes.

Azpilicueta chested Musa's right-wing cross back across his own six-yard box and could not rescue the situation after Okazaki reacted quicker than a lumbering Asmir Begovic to head the opener.Michy Batshuayi should have done better when he nodded Pedro's delivery wide at the back post and Chelsea's task became steeper 11 minutes before half-time.

Okazaki took Andy King's lofted pass impressively on his chest, but was ably assisted by a ball-watching David Luiz as he scuffed a shot into the turf, over Begovic and in.A chastening half for Chelsea's defence ended on a high - Cahill heading over the line, with Luiz charging into Danny Drinkwater's clearance to make sure.

The equaliser arrived four minutes after the restart and in spectacular fashion, as Fabregas' cross was only partially cleared and a sweetly hit volley from Azpilicueta flew into the top corner from 25 yards.

Batshuayi tried to pick out the same part of Ron-Robert Zieler's goal midway through the second half, only for the Germany international to produce a superb flying save.

With his team increasingly camped close to his penalty area, a long Zieler clearance sent Musa darting through at the other end, with Begovic turning his chip unconvincingly behind before King missed a glorious headed chance from the resulting corner.A raking pass from Luiz saw Costa force a double save from Zieler before Wasilewski – already on a booking – foolishly ensured his early exit.

Costa rifled against the side-netting in stoppage time but linked smoothly with fellow replacement Eden Hazard, who ruthlessly exposed a flagging Leicester by backheeling for Fabregas to score wonderfully in the 92nd minute.A poor Zieler punch allowed Fabregas to smash a second to seal the tie and quell talk of early cracks appearing under Conte.

AC Milan are not reliant on Bacca, says Montella

    niangbacca-cropped_aieiy4jopodp10n3a6ia4x29b.jpg

Vincenzo Montella insists AC Milan are not dependent on Carlos Bacca, despite the forward firing his fifth goal of the season in a 2-0 home victory against Lazio.Milan have won three games this season, with Bacca netting crucial strikes in each success to add to his 20 goals last term in all competitions.

However, after beating Lazio - the Colombian scoring a third in three games against the Rome club - Montella preferred to focus on the team's development.
"Bacca is doing great things, but the team is putting him in positions to do great things," he told Mediaset Premium.

"Milan goes both with and without Bacca. I'm happy when he does perform like tonight, but I'm also happy for the spirit of the group and also for those who did not play because there is active participation by all.

"Luiz Adriano, for example. He is playing very little and I'm sorry. However, we will need everyone [to do their part]. This evening, at the match, I really liked the group."Our best business in the market this summer was keeping Bacca, but also [Alessio] Romagnoli and other Milan players."

Victory for Milan lifted them into the top three after five games, Montella's side having nine points to their name.
