Mignolet: Karius will come back stronger

    hd-loris-karius_6vq9zthrk2i21e4z3jkfu53x3.jpg

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes under-fire Loris Karius will bounce back stronger after being dropped following a spell of poor form.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp opted to recall Mignolet for the trip to Middlesbrough on Wednesday and was rewarded with a vital away win and a clean sheet to boot as Karius could only look on from the substitute’s bench.

While Mignolet will undoubtedly be pleased with on his first showing since September, he was quick to defend his colleague.“We are team-mates, we all have to get through it and push each other,” he said.

“For Loris, it will not be nice. But he’s more than capable and professional enough to deal with it and learn from it.“He will only get stronger from it.”

Karius had been on the receiving end of widespread criticism after several recent errors and was finally taken out of the firing line.“That’s part of the job and you have to be mentally strong to deal with that,” said the Belgium international. “I’m coming up to 29, and I’ve been through it as well. It’s not nice.

“You only get stronger from it, especially at a club like Liverpool Football Club. One thing gets really big out of nothing.”

Wenger: Chelsea are NOT title favourites

    costa-chelsea-vs-west-brom_17ex9rfjqyfva1tukbie8zn3yj.jpg

Arsene Wenger believes Chelsea are candidates to win the Premier League, but does not feel any team has earned the right to be called favourites.Chelsea sit top of the table after 15 matches, three points clear of Arsenal and on a winning streak of nine consecutive top-flight matches.

Arsenal draw Bayern in Champions League But Arsenal themselves have not suffered a league defeat since the opening day against Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp’s side, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United making up the rest of the top six.

And Gunners boss Wenger thinks the title race remains wide open, with consistency over the busy festive period vital to any side's hopes of glory."What I believe is they [Chelsea] will be one of the candidates," Wenger said ahead of his side's trip to Everton on Tuesday.

"They are of course one of the teams doing extremely well, but there is no super favourite in there at the moment.

"They will have to maintain that like everybody else at the top. When you look at the league it is down to consistency."It is very open, very interesting. Every time a team is the favourites to win, they struggle.

"When you look at the teams around us, you can see the margin of difference between the teams has shrunk a lot.

"The way you respond in every game is absolutely vital. It's a very important period where everybody has to be absolutely focused on our results and the way we want to play."

now 6 points clear after 16 games.
chasing their own streak of 11 games winning ..............

Wenger: Welbeck closing in on Arsenal return

    dannywelbeck-cropped_1uu8xuypwz1p31b0xznqmwdl0h.jpg

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck will return to first-team training next week after seven months out with a knee injury, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Welbeck damaged cartilage in his right knee in May's 2-2 draw with Manchester City and is yet to make an appearance this season.

Arsenal return to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with both sides hoping to hang onto the coattails of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

And Wenger used his pre-match press conference to reveal that Welbeck had completed his rehabilitation, while also confirming that Aaron Ramsey is close to a comeback from a hamstring injury.

"Welbeck is one week away from completing normal training," the manager told reporters. "To be back in the squad; that will take some time because he hasn't played for a long, long time.We should have approximately the same squad who went to Everton.

"Nobody is back. Aaron Ramsey's not back, he's the closest to come back, so we have some knocks and bruises but they should all be available again.

"Next week, I believe he [Ramsey] should be back in the squad and in normal training."

'Germany's best player is the team' - Kroos

    toni-kroos-goal-25_n85s6ccc2j931txyjjn06jyz3.jpg

Toni Kroos says Germany’s success on the international stage has been built on collective spirit, rather than individual talent.Joachim Low’s side hit the jackpot at the 2014 World Cup, as they swept to a fourth global crown.

Momentum built throughout that tournament carried them to the title, with a 7-1 mauling of hosts Brazil at the semi-final stage suggesting that anything was possible.
They went on to edge out Argentina in the final, with Mario Gotze netting an extra-time winner.

Kroos was also a key figure throughout their campaign, with the Real Madrid playmaker a reassuring presence in the middle of the park.Germany can also call upon talents such as Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler, Marco Reus and Manuel Neuer.Kroos, though, insists that Low’s squad remain focused as unit and place on no emphasis on certain figures.

When asked to pick Germany’s best player based on current form, he told Goal: "That's hard to say. Us in Germany, and the whole world knows we have a good squad and not just one good player. I'd say our best player is the team."Strength in depth was not enough to secure Euro 2016 glory, but Germany are firmly back on track during 2018 World Cup qualifying.

They are yet to drop a point or concede a goal through their opening four fixtures, with Kroos’ efforts for club and country seeing him voted the best German player of the year in the Goal 25.

When presented with his award, he said: "I am very happy about it. There are many German players abroad at the moment and when you get an award despite this competition, that is great.”

Kroos is currently away in Japan with Real at the Club World Cup, and provided the assist for Karim Benzema’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Club America on Thursday that booked Zinedine Zidane’s side a place in the final.

    Mourinho: Impossible to drop Ibrahimovic

    mourinhoibrahimoviccropped_s6tkszuh2an41ul5x17m6pda7.jpg

Jose Mourinho says it's impossible to drop in-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic and lauded him as a "great example" to his Manchester United team-mates.

The Swede has scored eight goals in his last eight matches to help United progress in the Europa League and EFL Cup, as well as keep them in touch with the Premier League's top four.

At 35, Ibrahimovic is one of the more senior figures at Old Trafford and Mourinho is impressed by the striker's all-round application.

"He's doing phenomenal and [on Saturday] he's going to play again," said the Portuguese when asked if it was almost impossible to drop Ibrahimovic ahead of the weekend trip to West Brom."He's a great example to be honest, in every aspect, he's very professional. Even when it's difficult in today's football players' lives he keeps his family life private.

"He's a great example in everything. When you have him and [Michael] Carrick at 35 years old, I think the kids couldn't have better players to look at."

United have won back-to-back league games for the first time since August to sit six points off the top four and Mourinho knows the busy festive period is key to their ambitions this season.

"What we have to try to do in these three remaining matches [in December] is be in a position that gives us a chance in the second part of the season," he said.

"We are playing really well; if we can transform performances into results, we have a chance."

Mourinho – who confirmed Chris Smalling would return from a broken toe against the Baggies – was boosted by the news Eric Bailly's knee problem would not require surgery.

Chelsea will beat Arsenal's 14-game win record, claims Keown

    diego-costa-chelsea-v-manchester-city-premier-league-03122016_j8nwr9qm0nab1xm0zfw47fbfb.jpg

In-form Chelsea are capable of beating Arsenal’s record of 14 successive Premier League wins, claims Martin Keown.

The former Gunners defender was part of the squad which raised the top-flight bar back in 2002.Arsene Wenger’s side won their final 13 fixtures of the 2001-02 campaign en route to lifting the title.

They then opened the followed season with another success, setting a new benchmark.Chelsea now have that victory haul in their sights, having taken maximum points from 10 games in a row.

Antonio Conte’s side are brimming with confidence and Keown sees no reason why they cannot stretch their winning run through the busy festive period and into 2017.

"Arsenal won 14 on the bounce and I think Chelsea will beat that," he told the Daily Mail."I played in that record-breaking Arsenal side and remember our last defeat before that run was against Newcastle in December 2001.

"After the game, Bobby Robson said that we needed to learn to lose."It gave us a real determination that we weren't going to be defeated and we remained unbeaten until the following October.

"I see a similar determination in this Chelsea team - particularly in the way their manager celebrates and the enthusiasm he is bringing."

Chelsea will be back in action on Saturday when they take in a London derby with Crystal Palace. They then round off the calendar year with a Boxing Day clash with Bournemouth and home date with Stoke City on New Year’s Eve.

Were they to emerge victorious in all three of those fixtures, they could then match Arsenal’s win haul in a grudge match against Tottenham on January 4 and break the record against reigning champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium 10 days later.

The Blues are already guaranteed to top the Premier League table on Christmas Day having opened up a four-point lead at the summit, and will be amongst the favourites to recapture the crown if they are able to maintain their current high standards.

'I like and trust my squad' - Mourinho does not expect incoming Manchester United transfers

    josemourinho-cropped_15h2gl8e57lz41f3emdoixin3o.jpg

Jose Mourinho does not expect any new arrivals at Manchester United in the January transfer window, unless they sell other players first.

The United boss recently revealed that he would be open to selling anyone who is unhappy at Old Trafford, with Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay believed to be keen to move on.

The duo's exit could force United to enter the transfer market and add to their ranks, but Mourinho is not contemplating any deals for now.

"I like my squad, I trust my squad," said the Portuguese, whose side travel to West Brom on Saturday. "At the moment, if you ask me if I am waiting for someone to be here on the first of January, or if we are chasing some player because we want to have a new player here on the first of January, not at all."As I have said, I like to keep my squad the same.

"But as I told you and I repeat, as a manager I never feel that I have the right to stop people trying to be happier and trying to give a different direction to their careers.

"If the conditions are right for the club and that moment arrives during the month of January, then we will have to react."I am quiet and calm. I will see what happens. Let's just see what happens."

Ronaldo is Real Madrid's best ever player, says Del Bosque

    real-madrid-fcwc-cristiano-ronaldo_dex3lu4oepza1sx9p5eov8e4j.jpg

Vicente del Bosque says Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player Real Madrid have ever had in the wake of the attacker's fourth Ballon d'Or win.

The Portugal icon was named as the winner of the award on Monday by France Football, having played an instrumental role in Champions League and Euro 2016 wins for club and country respectively.

Madrid have had a large number of legendary players in their ranks, including the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano, the winner of five European Cups with the club, Ferenc Puskas, Luis Figo, ex-Brazil striker Ronaldo, current coach Zinedine Zidane and many more.

But former Madrid player and coach Del Bosque says the Santiago Bernabeu are witnessing the best player ever to have pulled on the jersey."Ronaldo is the best player in the history of Madrid through the records that he has set," Del Bosque told reporters.

"But he always does it without devaluing other players." While Ronaldo continues to win plaudits and praise, Del Bosque was disappointed that Andres Iniesta has never won the award, despite immense success for club and country.

Though he did finish second to Messi in 2010 after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final, the ex-Spain coach maintains he is still underappreciated."Iniesta is a good player," he added. "Nothing changes that journalists do not take it into account in the votes for the Ballon d'Or."
